If you are willing to cook Lighthouse Seafood Market on 466 has dry scallops. They are excellent.

Much prefer the dry scallops over the wet! Glad to hear that dry scallops are available. They are so easy to cook!

Another vote for Lighthouse Seafood Market on 466. If you don't want to cook there is always the Lighthouse Seafood Restaurant in LSL, great seafood.

If you want to try something different then go to Crystal River when scallops are in season and sign on with a captain who will take you out scalloping. We did it last summer and had a blast. Stayed at the Plantation on Crystal River and part of our package was that the kitchen then prepared our catch two ways for our dinner that night.

When is Scallop season?
This might help...
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission regulates harvesting of scallops, like it does all of Florida's fisheries, and the recreational bay scallop harvest season begins the last Saturday in June (unless July 4th is a Saturday) and ends September 24.

If I remember from what our captain told us last summer July into mid August is peak season for the scallops and they are fairly easy to get. There are a number of boats that go out either 8am or 1pm trips for about 5hrs each. We are planning on a 1pm trip this year and then bringing our catch home to cook.

I'm pretty sure Lena's closes May 1 til Nov. 1. They go back to Salisbury Beach MA for the summer.

How about that place across from Walmart on 441. St Johns or something like that. Good food Great service and reasonable. Need a hand with the name.

Sam's St. John Seafood! Have eaten there twice and enjoyed it - BUT - am spoiled by Jersey shore and New England fresh. You are right about great service and reasonable - BUT - you forgot to mention popular! lol Plan on an early arrival or a wait - maybe not so bad with us snowbirds gone! lol Best thing about Sam's St. John - seafood can be ordered fried, grilled, baked. broiled, blackened and any combination of same on the same plate! Cole slaw is mayo based dressing. Meals can also be ordered for take out.

We go to The Fisherman on Rt 44 (on the right heading towards Inverness) and get the fried shrimp and scallop plate. Cooked to your preference, huge jumbo shrimp, and giant sea scallops. Grew up eating sea scallops right off the boat, and these are right up there.
