We are looking to change our landscaping.

We are interviewing companies and would like input on good and bad companies.

We have just spoken with Ron's Landscaping to date.

You can pm or post here any positive or negative experiences with contractors.

Thank you.

We've used Jason Schmidt Landscaping (352-425-6361) for several sizable projects, and are extremely pleased with their work.

Ron does a good job.
I can also recommend Sabrina McGowan who does some very creative things with landscaping.

Stay away from Mansfield. Everything he does looks the same!

We are using Native Cuts. They come out, photograph your home, come back later with computerized photos of exactly how it will look when complete. We watched them do a few neighbors and then talked with them about their quality and they are top notch. In addition to the one year guarantee they give you they offer a lifetime guaranty on the plants if you choose to use them to maintain the landscape as far as fertilization, pest and weed control, etc. Very knowledgeable and they will be sure that your irrigation system is working the way it should for your new plantings and lawn. They are not the lowest price out there nor are they the highest but you get what you pay for. We had contractors coming here drawing on a piece of paper and saying they can start tomorrow. Native Cuts usually is out 4 to 6 weeks before they can begin.

We use Jireh. They do a lot of the Premier Homes (gives you an idea on the trust factor) and also provide ongoing maintenance and service products. In addition the have a location where you can meet to design, find the type of trees and plants you like and many variations of hardscape. They will not be low bid, but they did our's 3 years ago and have been been standing behind us ever since.

We used Terra Scape and were very happy with them. Got quotes from them, Jireh and KB...liked all 3 equally but Terra Scape had the best price.

Thank you everyone for great input.

Just some friendly advice. When you ask for contractor recommendations (and receive a response/recommendation), take a look at how many posts the person making the response has. It's interesting how many people recommending various companies have only a handful of posts.

Before you hire one, check with Seniors vs Crime to see if complaints have been filed and how many. There are some very disreputable landscapers out there. And never pay up front! SVC phone number is 352-750-1914. They’re in the office Tuesday and Wednesday 10-2 in Brownwood.

I would drive, or better walk around. See a style that you like. Also, see how well it has held up to our cold weather.
This year will separate the men from the boys. It has gone back and forth between colder than normal and warmer than normal. That is a plant killer. They start to grow due to the warmth and then that new tender growth gets hit with a blast of cold.

Many of the landscapers will put in plants that are not suited to our climate. You can and some of your neighbors do,put fabric etc over marginally hearty plants. Do you want to do that? Do you want to do that every year? Skip a year, go on a trip and it is DEAD.

Another vote for Sabrina McGowan. Great service and excellent stock.

Sabrina McGowen just finished a landscape job for me.
She was the lowest estimate, even though she had a better design and more plants.

When the job was done, she reduced the price because she used less bricks than she estimate.

Very good design and work. Very honest.

Stay away from Mansfield. Poor quality and very rude when asked to look at a problem.

Escapes Landscaping

Very knowledgeable and the owner is on the job every day. He gave us an estimate immediately and followed up with a beautiful computer design. We learned more about landscaping during his estimate than the class we went to!
He showed up to do our job the day he said he would and the workers were great. Respectful and cleaned up every day. We lost a couple small plants during the freeze and he replaced them without us even calling, can't say enough good about Escapes.

His number is 352 303 8610
