Since I am a car guy, my favorite scene in the movie Diggstown is when James Woods disses Bruce Dern's Mercedes SL 300 series (James is driving a SL 500 series)

Yeah, though it's kind of a limp color. Snowflake white. But I figured better a limp color... than a limp model like the 300.

Meredes 300 Sl series owners needn't be ashamed, they simply couldn't afford the price difference to a 500 series. Still a fine car if somewhat limply powered. Sort of like the difference between a Porsche and Porsche S model.

Its all about performance, if you have never experienced the difference you wouldn't know. You might compare it to a filet vs hamburger, I enjoy both but know the difference as most do

I have "experienced" the performance of many very capable steeds over the years and unless you're actually going to use them on track days...after a certain point performance is moot.

At which point...it all becomes about what I mentioned above. :ho:

P.S. Don't forget to zip up. :D

Not sure what it is about Mercedes owners that makes them think people are jealous, but this video is hilarious. A couple of redneck mercedes owners get called out. Wonder if this is our troll?

I have to admit, I've never seen Diggstown. After watching Iron Eagle in the mid 80's I've tried to avoid any movie with Louis Gossett Jr. and they actually made 3 more Iron Eagle Movies. I believe Louis Gossett reach his peak as the drill sergeant in An Officer and a Gentleman.

Diggstown (1992) - Rotten Tomatoes (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/diggstown/)

I will have to watch Diggstown at some point. It looks familiar so I have probably seen it but a very long time ago.

They often have these movies on DVD in the various libraries in the Villages' area.

All you need to start one of these toooooo many feuds is mention a person's car, politics, religion. How foolish it gets.

Jealous? Not at all. I've driven and owned, before I grew up, some truly powerful cars.

I recall years ago seeing a presentation on one of the financial shows where they asked the Mercedes marketing manger why there cars are so much more in the US then in Europe. The reply was, they've found that Americans are willing to pay more for them as they want the status.

CONFESSION-I DRIVE A PAID FOR IN FULL CHEVY.

I was going to attempt to say pretty much the same. It isn't nice to just start hammering on someone. For any reason. It isn't fair, it isn't kind and most of our mothers would put a stop to it. I turn my head when someone needs a little..."nudge" now and then and I have been the recipient of many deserved ones. But we need to stop before it sounds like just meanness.

I love to hear that anyone is driving a paid for car. That is a very good thing and especially when we are a "certain age". Born and raised to save money and be careful with it.

Incoming.

Not sure what program you watched and when but prices for cars, whether they are economy or luxury, are less expensive in USA than just about anywhere in the world. Because it is most competitive market.

For example I can buy a Porsche 911 Turbo in Ocala for $191,000. Same car in Germany is $213,000 Euros, or $259,860 USD. In China $366,000

Actually Louis is very good in his role as the fighter in Diggstown. It's a good movie, Woods and Dern are perfect in their roles.

The one thing I have been most impressed with in TV is that the overwhelming majority of people I meet, and ALL that I hang out with, could not care less how many square feet are in your house, what your job or station in life was before you got here, or what kind of car you drive.
There are always going to be a few bad apples, but I just sit back and remain thankful that my friends care about me because of who I am, not what I have. I would hate to live my life basing my self-worth on things.

LOL There are lots of car enthusiasts here in TV and tons of car clubs of all kinds. They love to talk about their cars and they all have friends who care about them.

We all have friends that care about us. I bet Attila the Hun had friends who cared about him. And some who were jealous of his horse.

Did they even talk about cars on Gilligan's Island? I do not remember that happening.

BTW, it was Tina Louise-- Ginger's-- BD yesterday.
