Be extra careful walking while walking your pooch.

From Facebook post:

TIP: The next 4-6 weeks is mating season for coyotes. Please do not let your dogs out alone. The coyote gets your dog to chase him and then somewhere in the distance the pack waits for your dog. Then the outcome is tragic. Just be aware it can happen to your beloved pet. {Coyote breeding typically peaks in late February and early March, the gestation period averages 58 to 63 days. Male coyotes can become more aggressive during this time of year, the long and short of it all is that coyotes always pose a risk to your dog (and other small pets). That risk increases during mating season.

Coyotes also will cross electric shock fences as I knew a dog here in the Villages who got snatched from a yard with an electric fence by a lone coyote. A very beloved pet of a friend of a few years.

Even with an electric shock fence, or invisible fence you should never the your dog alone in the yard unattended.

That is true. Accidents do happen unfortunately. Like with the beloved Jon Snow. A favorite pooch at one of the local Villages' area dog parks who got taken from all of us too early. He would usually good out to pee with his much bigger sisters. But that night went alone. The owner had not known about the roaming coyotes. Any place near a golf course is probably not safe from coyotes as these creatures use the Villages' golf courses to move from area to area.

Dogs recovering from coyote attack in Bunker Hill | FOX59 (http://fox59.com/2018/02/09/dogs-recovering-from-coyote-attack-in-bunker-hill/)

This can happen too if you let your dogs out in a group. If there are more than one coyotes out hunting in your neighborhood.

I have only seen solitary coyotes in the Lynnhaven/Belvedere area.

The only way an electric shock fence will stop a coyote or any other critter is if it is wearing an electric shock collar.

That is true. But for some reason some people think it will stop coyotes and other critters. You also have to watch out for aggressive dogs.
