Good news! I spoke just a few minutes ago with Melissa, one of the Havana managers, who said that the Sumter police met with them this morning and told them that they may have outdoor entertainment until 10 PM as long as the sound meets the ordinance decibel limitations! She said that their outdoor evening entertainment is Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

I decided to post this as a new thread to make it easier for people to hear about this news, since there has been such an interest in this.

Freeda,
Thanks so much for posting, I am thrilled to hear. I am a"wanna be TV resident", in my 50's and was really keeping a a close eye on the outcomes of this issue as I personally would have RE-EVALUATED my decision to relocate from the NYC area to TV in 2010 had this issue moved forward. The entertainment and 'active' lifestyle is what sets TV apart from other 55+ communities (on a scale of 1 to 10 I vote 10+) as well as the sheer size of the community. If I wanted a "quiet laid back bedside community" I would choose elsewhere. So I am thrilled to hear the news.

Thanks so much, hip hip hurray!:a040:

That makes more sense. The city and county we live in here in Illinois have the same rule on outside entertainment 10p.m.

Like Gardenia, we have been closely watching this thread, having been very impressed by the active lifestyle of TV. We are very happy to hear there could be a compromise that (hopefully) everyone can live with!:mademyday:

I feel that I have to make clear that there was NEVER an issue with the outdoor entertainment at the squares; Lake Sumter Landing and Spanish Springs. This only involved the Havana Country Club.

:pepper2::pepper2:Glad to hear the good news on Havana. I'm still up North visiting but had placed a call to corparate and have a response waiting at home. Maybe that's what it was in reference to. Anyway great news. I know it was only Havana but we all know what happens one becomes two etc. Thanks again for the update.:beer3::beer3:

There's no way to know, but with so many people who expressed views, of all variances, about the evening outdoor entertainment, and so many viewings - nearly 15,000 on the original " '8 pm curfew' " thread - on that subject, hopefully that at least was a factor in coming to what seems like a reasonable compromise.

I think that it is wonderful that this forum exists as a simple way to be heard and to learn of others' viewpoints. This has to be fairly unique for a large residential (and 'wannabe's') group - just as TV is!

I know you said that this issue only revolved around Havana CC, but we were at Mallory recently ready to listen to music and were told they were no longer having live entertainment past 7pm!!! Is this just a decision on the part of the management at Mallory or were they under the impression that live entertainment outside had to be curtailed? Is Havana going to resume live outside entertainment till 10pm right away?
Many thanks to those of you who went the extra mile in coming up with a compromise with the sheriff's office and the GM at Havana. We all appreciate your efforts!!! Now if you could find a way to get the Squares to stay open and alive till midnight on New Year's Eve!!!!:MOJE_whot:

Correct me if I am wrong. Havana Country Club is not run by the developer. Cane Garden is. I don't know about Mallory. I would imagine most decisions about entertainment are based on the attendance and the money from liquor sales. I would guess that when the huge influx of seasonal residents begins in the first part of January that THAT would be an factor in staying open longer at the Country Clubs.

Why didn't you ask management when you were told "no entertainment after 7:00PM" as to why this was occuring?

Only two Country Club Resturants are owned and ran by The Villages. They are Cane Garden and Palmer. The Villages also owns and runs The Light House Resturant.

All the other resturants they lease the property for a handsome $. They would much rather lease them than run them.

Actually, Mallory does have entertainment until 8 PM on one night of the week and 7 PM on the others (at least as of last week when I called them). This would indicate that graciegirl's analysis is correct - they close down when the clientele is insufficient to cover the costs. Certainly not because of a perceived clamp down.

Great! Now more inebriates on the highways later in the night. Wonderful, that's all we need. Now don't look upon this as a secret ya'll.....all bartenders know that the later the crowd the later the alcohol wears off. Drive carefully, and if you don't think Sumter Sheriff patrol cars will be out later....you have another thought coming.:doh:
