In an earlier post, one of our political thread stalwarts, Bucco, summed up his thoughts about the current administration:

"While I am 100% opposed to just about anything this President does on the domestic front with all the politics being played instead of the nations well being..."

so would this recent action be maybe at least 1% positive?...

The White House ethics counsel, with little fanfare, has issued a new policy this Fall. and according to the Washington Post, it "may turn out to be the most far reaching lobbying rule change so far from President Obama, who has sought to restrict the ability of lobbyists to to get jobs in his administration and to negotiate over stimulus contracts. Hundreds, if not thousands, of lobbyists are likely to be ejected from federal advisory panels as part of a little noticed initiative... to curb their influence in Washington. Under the policy... none of the more than 13,000 lobbyists in Washington could hold a seat on the committees which advise agencies on trade rules, troop levels, environmental regulations and thousands of other government policies."

(the only downside I can see is maybe a slight increase in unemployment stats.)

I have not read of this, but of course it is positive, as was the last change he made in lobby rules and then proceeded to make all the exceptions for his appointments !

Not just being negative but what I say is true...this would not be the first set of rules he has made.....he circumvented the last set and hopfully he sticks with this and then that is good !

To be fair...this is the article I think you refer to....

"Hundreds, if not thousands, of lobbyists are likely to be ejected from federal advisory panels as part of a little-noticed initiative by the Obama administration to curb K Street's influence in Washington, according to White House officials and lobbying experts."

A lot of data in this article and it sure sounds good on the surface !!

From the other end I referred to...

"Obama's Lobbyist Ban Meets a Loophole: William Lynn

Not surprisingly, Obama's good-government backers were less than pleased to see the President, only a few days after signing the blanket ban, issue a waiver permitting William Lynn to serve as Deputy Secretary of Defense. The lobbying loophole was allowed, Administration officials explain, because Lynn is "uniquely qualified" for the job. Realists at the Pentagon and elsewhere put it slightly differently, saying the President was simply acknowledging that people who know how to run the Pentagon generally have been involved in the process. Now, this alone is not a bad thing...my problem is that he does not do what he says....if he sticks with what he says I will certainly give him credit, but thus far,......
