Am I the only one who saw the photo on the front page and thought at first it was the bridge that collapsed yesterday in Miami? The artist rendition was actually of the new golf cart bridge that will go over the Florida Turnpike.
I'm sure the newspaper front page was already passed the point of making a change. I'm also sure those at the Sun probably also cringed when they saw it too.

From my point of view ... I didn't make any connection with the tragedy in Miami.

Nor did I.

It's the first thing that popped into my head. Then I started to read the story and realized it wasn't.

It IS a flat span like the bridge in Miami and a long one too. Hopefully this awful disaster will make all bridges to be constructed, more scrutinized.

Yes, super bad timing - it makes me remember the bridge collapse in Minneapolis years ago and the nationwide inspection of all bridges. That concern was for old bridges - not new ones. Very sorry for the loss of life and hope something is learned from this tragedy.

Hopefully not the same company

Made no connection what so ever.

It is, as per usual, in the eye of the beholder.

The only silver lining in this story is that the bridge wasn’t open yet to students. Prayers for the families of all the victims and those still in the hospital.

Stop watching the fake news, you would not know about the Miami collapse. I had to look it up when you posted this. TV Daily sun is the only news worth reading. Wish I could get it sent to me in Wisconsin. BTW - The new bridge is Beautiful.

Soon as I saw the picture of the new bridge, it reminds me of the sign going across the entrance to Disney, only thing missing is Mickey and Minnie on each side.

Seriously?

You think only "fake news" covered the collapse of a brand new pedestrian bridge...that killed multiple people?

If the news source you watch didn't cover it...then I think we know which one is fake. :ohdear:

Folks i would worry more about the condition of our existing bridges and infrastructure.
Our Bridges in this country are ready to collapses .
Just a FYI.
The one in Miami is some major Engineering Screw-up and such a shame of life lost.
The I 4 construction has taken 3 Lives i believe in the last 2 Years.
Just some FYI.
Thank God we live in paradise.

I do so agree. But I hold my breath everytime I go under 466 in my golf cart and pray the engineer that designed the tunnel was in the top half of his class.

Usually, failures are not the result of design flaws (the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and the Hyatt Regency Kansas City notwithstanding). Typically, the problems are in the construction (i.e. the implementation of the design). Regardless, I don't dawdle in the tunnels ;-)

The investigation of the FIU bridge failure might take a year or more.

My point was, you would be much happier not watching the news and hearing about every catastrophe on earth all the time, most of which have no affect on you. When did TOTV become a bunch of snowflakes? yikes....

You have no idea if the new bridge is being constructed with the same technique that was used and developed by FIU. You also have no idea what company is being used to make the bridge.Or, are you now saying that any bridge construction is unsafe ?

Now, now, Paul, don't go trying to use logic and common sense on this issue, you know you'll never win against paranoia and speculation, no matter how right you are.

Well, then. I guess there's living in the bubble and then there's living inside the bubble > crawling down a sinkhole > paving the top with concrete (airholes optional) > covering your ears > singing la la la la.

This picture is NOT EVEN CLOSE to the design of the bridge in Miami. In Miami it was within a University complex and this one is in open area. ??

In Miami it was within a University complex and this one is in open area. ??True, but my reaction upon seeing the artist's rendition was to think of the Miami bridge, both special purpose and spanning multiple lanes. It wasn't a lasting thought.
