We need a system for the Sarasota golf driving range. Something similar to taking a ticket at the grocery store. The range has been very crowded lately and there is nothing in place to assure first come first serve. It's all hap hazard. If you have been there you know what I mean.

I go there all the time and don't see a problem.
Get a bucket of balls. If all the hitting stations are occupied, I pick one where someone's hitting that's running low on balls. Wait till they're done, then start hitting balls. I've never waited longer than 15 minutes to get access to a station.
I've never seen it so busy that each station has both someone hitting and someone waiting.
Maybe I've been lucky?

During those times how crowded are the practice bunkers or practice chipping and putting greens across the street?

I agree. A number system should be used.

Maybe someone should talk to the people at the range.....might work better than complaining on here.
Or...........Call Country Club Administration at 352-753-3396 for more information on membership enhancements or other golf/tennis issues.

A number? You mean like at the Publix deli? :1rotfl:

Welcome to the crowded time of the year.

There are 3 other ranges in The Villages (Glenview and Palmer where you hit on a traditional range or Lopez, another aqua range) that you can buy individual buckets or use your range card.

Or, go to the Lady Lake range on Rolling Acres Road.

Problem solved........

No please...not numbers...perhaps patience or an alternate range. I get a bucket...go to a station where the person is getting low on balls and instead of just waiting(as they may get another bucket)I ask if they're going to hit more balls when those are gone...then I wait. Busy time of year...patience is required, but please don't suggest a numbering system.

Or just wait until the first week of April. The birds fly home.

I thought your question was reasonable as I don’t use this range in peak season for same reason. Just a word to wise, putting out a question such as your on this forum is like saying “Kick me please”. As you can see.

Another idea is to dedicate your practice time around 4 in in the evening when the majority feel they have to indulge in happy hour and the always expected dinner time at 5 sharp and wade it out till after the first week of april.

I hit balls at Sarasota today around 6:00. A half dozen or so people there. Sun low in the sky. Perfect temperature. Beautiful.

No more rules needed, I go there all the time and simply do what Mortal1 stated "I get a bucket...go to a station where the person is getting low on balls and instead of just waiting(as they may get another bucket)I ask if they're going to hit more balls when those are gone...then I wait. No numbers please. Be patient. Aren’t we retired. Sit on bench and enjoy the great weather and friendship of other people waiting

10 baskets are $45; 20 baskets are $80; 50 baskets are $175; a swipe of the card dispenses 45 balls.

Leave most of your sticks in your car/cart...and ignore the range.

Go practice your chipping and putting...to have the best chance at lowering your scores.

My only observation...and I won't classify it as a complaint...is the number of people who hit a ball every couple of minutes. Last week I picked out a fellow who was about through his bucket and then he took a couple of phone calls, and then he chatted with the fellow next to him etc. I'm not one who thinks folks need to machine gun through the bucket, but some common courtesy when people are waiting would be nice. I finally moved to another spot and when that person was finished and I hit my bucket...my original target was back on the phone with two or three balls still left. Again, just an observation...my grandfather lived to be 105 by minding his own business and I intend to follow that lead.

Yapping on the phone is one thing I guess but some people are there to work on tempo and rhythm. I hit a few with different clubs and take a couple minute breaks in between.

I agree, I have had to wait many times. Someone looks like they are finishing up only to get another bucket of balls. Than you are waiting again.

When I practice on the range. I stand behind the ball and pick my target and something a foot away from the ball that the ball will go over. I take my grip and make sure I'm far enough away from the ball. I set my feet. Straighten my back and push the club back not lift it, swing and chunk it. Every swing has been an experiment for 50 years. Why do I love this game?

Your right beachbum....a little courtesy would go a long way. Some only think about themselves. :spoken:

Because it's so easy to master?
