Could be the earth movers. When we bought our first home it was the only street completed. When the big movers came in it rattled the windows

Yes, my house in Fenney shook too. Scared me because I was waiting for the floor to disappear....
Have no idea what it was but hope it doesn't again..

Don't know if it was effect of train problem. Freight train had stopped and blocked multiple crossings including the one at CR 466. Some one mentioned that there was a de-railment. This occurred around noon time.

It could have been a lightning strike down in Fenney. If it’s direct and close it can literally shake your house.

The last time it happened I was told it was the stone company down on 470 blowing up rocks, this was the third time since we moved here that it has happened. The first time I thought it was a truck wreck, the second I thought sink hole, but then found out it happens every couple months down here.

Newly built house next door in Fenney just about to be powerwashed at approximately 2 pm today when our whole house shook for a few seconds rattling the dishes in our cabinets. We said wow that is some powerwasher!!!!! Then realized it was more than that. Went outside and checked the house for damages. Anyone know the cause of this?

Seems that the Salespeople forgot to tell the new Finney buyers about this area's unique feature. This blasting should go on for at least a few more years as indicated by today's published request ( Daily Sun, page C6) for the 144 acre rock mine to be expanded into 3 more large areas.
Hopefully this mine won't be transitioned into a regional dump when the mining operations are ceased. Dig a big hole and then fill it up with garbage. Lots of money to be made on both ends!

Knowing what it is relieves the anxiety and hearing or feeling this every couple months is not a problem. i would guess that when the mining ceases the land will be purchased by TV if they have not already done so, they always have plans for the future it seems. vacant rock quarries make nice lakes, maybe this area will be large enough for boating. I like to think positive.

This statement is like "they are going to take away your guns", neither makes any sense and won't happen.
I stated that hopefully it wouldn't eventually be converted a dump. It is not such a farfetched statement. My understanding is that Mt. Morse (also tagged as Pine Ridge Hill) on CR466A and Morse Blvd. originally was a mined out sand hill which is currently being filled up with construction, landscaping and who knows what else debris. That's where the term "landfill" comes from.
In my original home state of Wisconsin, more than 70% of the mined out quarries were/are used as dumps. Several have become Superfund clean up projects because of lack of proper lining, drainage, gas bleeding, and improper materials.

I see that there was a news article about this on Saturday - link below. 101 year old company, blasting 5 times a month and just renewed permit for 10 more years. So, as a potential future Fenney resident, I am curious - are you just feeling the shaking or also hearing the booms? Sounds like it's just a surprise earth shaking for a few seconds maybe once a week?

If living in Fenney in ANY way is not your cup of tea, move here and rent for a year and there will be a new Village being built, away from the Booms. Of course prices may go up, but someone is gonna buy in Fenney and love it.
I don't sell houses, have never been a realtor and I don't know the Morses, but I would like to. Their half brother lives in my village but he doesn't neighbor much.
I am bat-**** crazy about this amazing place and it's wise and old-er people.

We have visited and rented in TV many times over the past 5-6 years. My parents have been full time residents for at least that long. I don't know yet if Fenney is my cup of tea which is why I am trying to read and gather as much info as I can from actual residents. Obviously, this topic caught my eye, as well as another current, related topic in this forum that also mentions hearing a PA system from a prison. Reminds me of a time many years ago when I rented a home on a temporary basis here in my home town that was about 100 yards away from a Burger King drive thru. Personally, I don't think the ground shaking for a few minutes once a week is that big a deal, especially if you know the source and it doesn't do any damage to anything and it doesn't occur in the middle of the night.
We have interacted with several of TV sales agents over the years and have found most of them to be very straightforward and nice. However, I'm a former licensed broker but I have never actually worked in the business. I am aware that there are differences between licensed brokers/Realtors and the sales agents as far as the rules and regulations they are bound to. That's not necessarily good or bad but is certainly something that is helpful to be aware of. In my experience, it doesn't matter, really, when you are shopping for a new home or a new or used car. The one latin term I learned in my broker class many years ago was "caveat emptor" (let the buyer beware). Always do your own due diligence. That means do your research and learn how to look up tax maps and records, etc. Research is all I am doing here. Reading, commenting, and asking questions. I am, by no means, trying to bash TV or any particular part of it. My wife and I loved it there from the first time we visited. We are in the process of packing up our belongings and plan to make TV our new home town. We will be renting for at least 2.5 months while searching for homes.

Many years ago we lived a short distance from a quarrying operation in Elmhurst, IL,
and frequently we would hear blasting and feel the house shake.
What I would be concerned about down here, is if the blasting
and earth shaking would be an added factor in sinkhole developement.
Might be a good idea to do some research to see if any correlation!

The Villages is an amazing place and I love it. I live in the family neighborhood. I have been a realtor since 2005. I have family that have been sales agents. The biggest difference there is, if you ask me a question I am allowed to answer it as long as I am not lying or Breaking Florida real estate law. Sales agents can and will lose their jobs if they say something against the company. For example they will not tell you that there is mining within minutes of your house that can affect your home and property. And if you ask , they will give you a line given to them from their company that says it's no big deal. By the time you figure it's a big deal, they will be long gone or you will have no proof. As a realtor in the area I want to be upfront and honest about everything. I have been in the area for 29 years and have watched how they've dealt with other issues in the past. Everything is a battle. Now I'm not saying all Realtors are created equal.lol. You are 100% right do your own research and homework. The truth is whenever they build in new areas there are always some kind of issues. It is whether you are willing to live with the consequences of those issues ( sinkhole, Foundation damage, walls cracking, resale value, etc.). Or just plain and simple the annoyance of your house shaking.

Just to be clear. Fenney is a Village, part of the 80 Villages that makes up THE VILLAGES. There is no quarry in Fenney. There is a quarry less than ten miles from Fenney.
There is also another thing that happens frequently about this kind of misinformation and focus on negatives. There are those whose agenda is to try to keep people from coming to The Villages for a variety of reasons. They are involved in another competitive over 55 community. They are realtors who cannot sell NEW homes in The Villages, (the new homes in The Villages are only sold by Villages agents) or they do not wish for The Villages to add population because they feel there is too much traffic and too many people.

Thanks for being accurate and factual...in stating that it's not actually in Fenney. :ho:
And using your suggested search terms, I found this....
The blasting is by the 101-year-old Dixie Lime and Stone Co., 3238 E. County Road 470, which operated decades before the first Fenney home was built.
The quarry is a little over two miles from the Village of Fenney.

They don't blast 5 times per month, if you check back here or on the Fenney Facebook page they are about one month apart, at least those that can be heard or felt. I've been here most of the last 12 months and have hear/felt it 4 times, I may not have been home for a few but certainly not 5 per month.

It depends on the demand for big and Little Rock's. I use to work at quarry's. Depending on the ledge of material usually takes about 8 to 10 work days to drill, blast, and use up the product. But, depends on Supply and demand?
The villages are supplying the demand and the quarry supplying the rocks through the rock crusher. One thing for sure quarries eventually run out of good limestone or land to scalpel. Eventually the problem will go further down the road?

I've never heard of blasting to go deeper with piles and although it may have been done at some time in history...it's very uncommon.

The process involves loosening the soil strata by means of controlled blasting and driving in the piles before ground reconsolidation takes place.
