Does anyone know why they do not broadcast over the internet also? Looks like they could bring in a lot more business from prospective buyers, and those of us from out of the area could stay abreast of The Villages news.

You can wonder but "they" aren't very communicative about their plans and motives. Seems like they are keeping all their building and planning and selling crews busy. Isn't the Daily Sun online? Then of course we have the umm online news and we have this forum to keep us in the loop. One of the best things you can do is befriend your neighbors on Facebook.

When we travel we have no problem accessing The Daily Sun, TOTV or the dot com news....all on the interenet.... in all locations...coast to coast.

My guess would be the cost to broadcast beyond their current range. Does TV really need long distance radio advtg?

The question was why doesn’t WVLG broudcast over the internet. Similar stations are not WVLG with the news, weather, entertainment schedules, and so forth specifically about The Villages.

I also wonder why WVLG doesn't have Internet broadcasting. We're not 30,000 anymore and have lots of Villagers who head out for the summer months and would still like to hear the latest goings on. And here every phone or tablet would be WVLG ready. Even Sun City Center is Internet accessible through the Tune in Radio platform.

Their GPS App is antiquated. The Villages doesn't have an app for searching for homes. Even TOTV is not app friendly unless you go through Tapatalk...

I would suppose that the station owners feel the cost to the station would outweigh their benefits in terms of income.

There are other good sources of The Villages News, as others have already listed.

The only time I listen to the station is when in the car, driving around, which is seldom. Most trips are by golf cart. Never listen to the station while at home; the television is always on.

Looks like WVLG may begin transmitting on 102.7 FM from their AM tower in the future. The repeater station is presently relaying another FM stations signal from a different location. See FCC correspondence below:

They provide local weather. Much of the "news" comes from various Villages websites.

Throw in some music and banter, and you get a perfect feel of what attracted people to The Villages to begin with.

W274BR is a FM translator for WVLG in Lady Lake on 92.7. It appears it is being relocated to the Villages WVLG tower. It is very low power at 250 Watts.

Also, WVLG is broadcast on Comcast TV channel 99 in The Villages. Still no streaming which is expensive for a small radio station.

There is more to streaming then just getting out of area listeners. Broadcast over the air is old fashioned, people like us listen to radio over the Internet. There are systems providing whole house audio with access to stations from around the World. Over the air signals are poor in quality. Should not be a major expense to feed an audio stream to a micro-computer system with access to the Internet. The hardware and software are off the shelf. St. Vincent dePaul has one Mass on Sunday available on Internet for the homebound, not a major task.

I have heard the royalties to play music go way up when broadcasting over the internet.

Yes, royalties are higher for streaming. The technology is cheap.
