I waited to see how the national news media would treat the so called "drop" in unemployment. And not disappointed it was hailed as a possible major turning point for what some today said "could be" the beginning of a significant trend"
Really?
One piece of data does not make a curve. It certainly does not make or even hint at a trend. Mathmaticall and statistically the only trend present is unemployment is still on a trend up.

They did not, any of the bally whoers all day including the national news, address the fact that today's numbers exclude those who are unemployed and no longer collecting benefits. So the real unemployment rate is still up and significantly understated.

Just who is the POTUS going to impress by traveling and walking factories and stating "we are now headed in the right direction".....not the same people who are still out of work.

Numbers and figures don't lie but liars do figure.....how true...how true....HOW TRUE!!!!!

The reduction reported today (even though incorrect) was a 1.9% drop in the number stated....has nothing to do with any real status.
Typical message from Obama and his team. Instead of getting a good analysis and a real perspective on the real numbers he and his team are promoting getting him around to talk to the folks affected. Really? Does he and his team really think he still has the gold plated schmooze effect he peddled prior to the election? Another self indulging fairy tale.
These are the lack of performance and liking to hear themselves talk that is causing his credibility to continue in decline.

Time is not on his side anymore!

One doesn't have to look far for the numbers you want. From msnbc.com:

And the so-called underemployment rate, counting part-time workers who want full-time jobs and laid-off workers who have given up their job hunt, also fell, from 17.5 percent in October to 17.2 percent.

You're right in that it's only one month and one does not a trend make.

Give it time. I know lots of people are hurting. Small businesses aren't hiring. I guess I'm more centrist than most who respond here. Lots of bitterness over the election.

You have us confused with the left Mr. Centrist. Centrist? It was the liberal left that defined bitterness, vindictiveness and mean spirited sniping after the 2000 and 2004 elections. They brought whining to a new level....and occasionally still do on this board over George Bush.

Bitterness over the election as you define it...is not the case. I'm sure many share my concern for what is now apparent as Obama and Congress executing a hard radical change to the left and socialism tempered with communist and Marxist influences. The systematic accumulation of growing centralized government by a Congress and President that are intoxicated by power is evident to all but the Kool-Aid drinkers....and of course....a few centrists. Washington has taken over banks, auto manufacturers and probably the health care industry. The president and Congress have crippled small business, declared war on the insurance industry and in the process, created the most massive debt in the history of the world. They are determined to "redistribute and share the wealth" of hard working people with those who have been schooled for years by the likes of A.C.O.R.N .,in the nuances of reaping the public dole. One can make a case that the new entitlements have been designed specifically to bankrupt the National Treasury so the government can step in and take complete control of all aspects of American life as we know it. Refer to the Cloward/Piven Strategy. http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/02/the_clowardpiven_strategy_of_e.html The only thing that stands in their way are the patriots you cavalierly dismiss as "bitter over the election". No excuses for my passion on this subject.

Like the old Communist Soviet Socialist Republic, we have more Czars than stars who continue to go unvetted and not subject to confirmation by anyone accountable to the electorate. Obama and his Chicago gang support job and industry killing legislation like "Cap and Trade", they support a largely union contrived man made global warming agenda that is being unmasked and revealed as one of the greatest, man made frauds of all time.

Obama is out to kill capitalism, the American currency, American freedom and our status as the most powerful democratic nation on earth.

So much more in so little space. No Mr. Centrist, the right is not bitter over the election as you presume. They have seen and had enough action by Obama and his minions to formulate strong opposition to the Obama agenda without being bitter over a democratic election that from all indication has created a lot of "buyers remorse", yourself as a loyal centrist....not included of course.

BTK good post...you are a patriot....not bitter over the election.

Have a great day in the Villages.

I would love to pursue that line of thinking about "bitterness over election" I would ask you to do some reading on the reaction to 2000 and 2004 election !

A couple examples....the Soros story which began at that time as a result of his bitterness over the election which he fully admits to...the birth of ACORN as a secondary result of that.

But this thread is about the unemployment figure, but if you wish to start a thread on that very subject about bitterness and reaction to elections I will surely be glad to join in on that !
