if you believe that Antropogenic Global Warming is real. Today's panel convert only 12% of the energy absorbed to electricity. The remaining 88% radiates out from the panel as heat. Some designs coming on-line claim they can increase that to 20% electricity and 80% heat. The theoretical limit is said to be 40/60.

The administration wants to battle AWG with 'green' power - solar and wind. How is solar 'green' if it traps more heat?

Without the solar panels converting 12% to electricity, then 100% would be converted to heat - not to mention the heat produced by obtaining the electricity from another source.

Unfortunately this is not the case. Normal grass, concrete, etc reflects most of sunlight back - therfore the case for greenhouse gases trapping this reflected energy. Solar panels are designed to absorb nearly all the energy that falls upon them from the sun. Our new secretary of energy has recommended paint the roofs of all our homes white so as to increase reflection of solar energy back into space.

When it comes to solar panels, the most immutable law of all concerning man's actions of all comes into play - the law of unintended consequences.
