I have my EZGO Electric Cart since 1998. Paid $3000. Get it serviced every year. Only use about 4 months a year and I get good speed.

I don't think that is high mileage. Our 2011 Yamaha has 14,000 miles on it. I service it regularly and keep it looking nice. I'm going to put new tires on it this year. My thought is, when the time comes I'll put a new motor in it versus buying a new cart.

My 2013 Yamaha Gas has 17,003 miles on it. I've replaced the tires, tie rod ends, belts and starter/generator brushes. This year has the internal disk brake / friction plate. Has anyone had that replaced? I hear it is complex and costly. Any feedback is appreciated.

Our 2013 has nearly 23,000. Only went thru tires, change of belts, regular oil changes, spark plug and a rear shock. Will have to look into the disk brake / friction plate.:gc:

The differential fluid should be changed periodically. It takes about 1.8 quarts. Check your owner's manual.

12k miles? pffft. I bet there are more than a few carts in TV approaching 100k miles.

With my current activities, I am on track for 5k miles per year now.

As biker1 states, differential gear oil should be changed every 4 years/5k miles. If you have a limited-slip diff, don't forget to add the friction modifier fluid.

I doubt the friction plates are worn out. Ive had some 07-08 apart recently ( governor shaft), no sign of wear.
Ive only heard of one being worn out and that was a 6 seater that was heavy use in with lots of hills.
Ive heard about some being replaced here in the villages, but I seriously doubt they needed changed.

According to Yamaha, replace the differential gear oil every 2 years or 2500 miles. When in doubt, check the owner's manual for maintenance requirements. You can buy the Yamaha gear oil with the friction modifiers for the differential at The Villages Golf Cart Store for a good price.

If you follow the Yamaha maintenance requirements for engine oil change and use Yamaha 10w-30 engine oil, they will guarantee your golf cart engine for 5000 hours. Clearly, this is a marketing ploy and I doubt they would ever have to pay off but there is a real expectation that the engines will last a long time with consistent maintenance. I change my engine oil every 50-75 hours, which is consistent with the Yamaha owner's manual, perhaps a bit more frequently. I believe 16 MPH is a typical average speed so 5000 hours on the engine would be 80,000 miles. Obviously a lot of parts would need to be replaced at those sorts of miles but with maintenance and replacement of those parts that normally wear (belts, alternators/starter motors, clutches, suspension parts, spark plugs, air filters, etc.), the Yamahas should last a good long time.

Your cart engine (glorified lawnmower engine) is air-cooled and only holds quart of oil. When it turn black it is dirty. Dirt wears cranks shaft bearing mostly, other moving parts like risk pins, and block bore. I have never worn out any engine I ever owned. When the oil starts to get contaminated I change it reguardless of how many hours, miles, or months. Usually at least twice year and sometimes 3 times year. IMO changing the oil is no 1 thing that will make cart last very long time.
