No more of my $$$ is going to Disney. Just recently heard that to stay at a Disney resort they are now charging to park overnight. I believe I read that they charge around $13.00 per night for the low end hotels and up to $31.00 per night at the higher level hotels. We usually stayed at Port Orleans Riverside which is considered at mid level. We loved the location and the fact that there was boat transportation to other areas in addition to the bus depot. The pool play area was really nice for our grandkids. Since I was born, raised & lived most of my life in Florida...thus have been going there for many years with my own children & grandkids. But no more of my money is being spent there. The last straw was in Publix today when I was looking for a new recycle bag at checkout. I picked up one of the Disney character bags and saw that it was $1.99, well I couldn’t believe it. So I then picked up another design...pretty colorful eggs. The cashier said it was $1.00, which was what I expected. So I joked wth the cashier that I surely wasn’t going to pay extra to advertise Disney! What is wrong with this picture?!? They should be paying customers for carrying around their advertising. Go ahead bash me if you will, but that is just plain ridiculous! :cus:

So I take it you never stay overnight at Universal? They've been charging to park at their hotels for years. And regarding charging for bags, I guess you don't wear any apparel with a brand or logo on it?

As long as they continue to have occupancy rates at greater than 90% they feel they can do pretty much whatever they want.

They've raised park ticket prices so high in an effort to thin out the over crowding and even that didn't work.

Disney Value is $13 per night, moderate $19 per night, deluxe $24 per night. Disney Springs 3 hour parking free with validation of a $20 purchase.

Universal parking to go for dinner was $24.00 for 3 hours

Disney will charge whatever the market will bear. But isn’t that just about what everybody does?

The Swan and Dolphin have been charging for parking for years. Parking fees would not stop me for staying on site. The on site transportation is worth the parking charges (for me).

And if happen to belong to DVC I believe the parking fee is waived..

Occasionally we drive to one of the hotels just to eat lunch or dinner. Interesting to see if we will be charged for parking while eating in one of their restaurants.

I’m DVC and there is no parking fee for DVC stays. There is no parking fee for Disney Springs last I checked. If you are heading to a resort for shopping or dining, no parking fee, but some resorts might just limit time you can park for various reasons....construction, etc. Many hotels do charge an overnight parking fee...and have been doing so for some time.

Why is everyone jumping on the OP. They were only stating the fact that they will not be going back to Disney. We are annual pass holders, and we will not be renewing for the same reason. These parks are nickel and diming us to death, and I for one have better things to do with my money. Apparently that’s what Disney and Universal are aiming at.

:mademyday: Some people just like to jump all over others when they post. I expected to be criticized for not liking Disney any more. It’s like not liking mom & apple pie. Lol! I’ve been going to Disney for probably 45 years, and over it now. Whew!

Parking for visiting the parks is free for annual pass holders. Parking for dining and shopping at the resorts is free for all. Overnight parking for people staying at the resorts has a fee.

Whatever the market will bear. I hate going to Disney. I hate the crowds, and I agree it is over priced. We had a room at the Beach resort, that was something like $400/night plus tax. What a ripoff. It was overlooking a parking lot. We tried to use the pool but couldn't find seating. Every lounger was being used. Never again.

I so remember (many years ago..) bringing the kids to DW resorts and parks - wondering that a local FL family could drive and bring their family, park in a resort lot and go to the resort pool etc FOR FREE. No questions asked.

Would guess that would be the same nowadays, as this parking fee would be charged to the Resort/Hotel bill? And not a parking attendant station upon entry...

I remember going to the Magic Kingdom when you got a coupon book and there were so many Levels of rides in each book. Also I remember only a few years back that the resort hotels charged for wi fi at a time when most chain hotels had free wi fi. Geez!

I remember that the price seemed astronomical when we brought our girls for the first time to see Mickey and Minnie, fifty years ago. We drove down from Ohio, no air conditioning in the car and the kids playing in the back of the station wagon, unbelted. I had made new Barbie outfits and had other surprises wrapped for every half hour of the trip, certainly not expensive, just something to make it easier for little ones. We had saved and scrimped to come to be amazed and delighted and I will never forget the GE Carousel of Progress, a view into the future, and now I am the white haired lady who sits at my computer in the kitchen.

Disney is still wowing everyone, and the cost is still astronomical. Sometimes amazing things cost a lot.

And I, too, am the white haired lady sitting at the kitchen table, checking out My Disney Experience online. I agree, the parks are expensive, and actually always have been. Many need more spectacular rides/shows to entertain them. These cost money...planning, building, maintaining. If you want to enjoy spectacular, try Flights of Passage in Animal Kingdom Park. It’s truly amazing. At the parks, you do need to be a bit computer savy....fast passes, dining reservations, shows are booked many days and even months in advance. Fortunately, wi-fi is free at the hotels and parks and learning how to find available fast passes isn’t too difficult. It is indeed crowded, especially during certain events....Food and Wine Festival, Flower and Garden and it can be annoying to say the least, but living closer to the Kingdom means I don’t have to stay there on a crusade...up at dawn, park hopping, staying till the last firework bursts. Sometimes it’s we older individuals who have heartache with the increased costs and the crowds....we remember when it cost so much less, crowds seemed less menacing....but maybe it was in part, due to the fact that we were younger, and even though the prices were lower, they were still quite expensive for the time. There are now more rides, more parks, more people...and even with all the crowds, seeing the smiles and listening to the laughter of the youngsters, and even the adults, is fun. We all set limits for ourselves...time, money, etc. and that is our choice. We’re adults, can do what we want with our time and $$. If you go, enjoy, if you opt out of going, hope the good memories bring a smile to your heart.....you did enjoy your time then and that shouldn't change.

Once you get past the entrance fee shock the Disney experience makes you forget how much money you are spending. Which is good, because paying to get in is only the beginning.

All the surrounding "off site" hotels have been charging a parking fee as well a "resort fee" for the last several years. We recently stayed at the Doubletree near Disney Springs and the parking fee was $22 for self park. Tourist areas will always charge what the market will bear.

My husband found this and thought I might like it....and I DO!!! Actually it’s a nightshirt, but I use it as a dress or shirt.
We enjoy Disney and especially the resorts. As frantic as things can be here, seemed worse in Anaheim...smaller park, pain in the neck to get there on the freeway. I must admit, I could take it or leave it until we became DVC members.

We have been fans of Port Orleans for many years and have had our fill of Disney to last quite a few more years. I find it unacceptable to be paying for parking @ $19 per night. They already charge plenty for the experience enough is enough. As a side note for about 4 years post 9-11 when people were apprehensive about traveling by air we got great deals on lodging at Port Riverside the average was $110 per night one year we even paid $99 per night. I noticed the rates are now around $250 per night. We will occasionally head to Disney Springs (formerly Downtown Disney) to take in the sights but that's about it. I hope they are not charging to park at Disney Springs.

My wife and I first went to Disney as young adults and we absolutely loved it. We brought our son to Disney many times and he always loved it (still does). Disney has changed dramatically over all these years as have we. One thing hasn't changed - our love of Disney. We have annual passes. We try to avoid crowds. We are never in a hurry. We don't have to go on any particular ride since we have been on all of them, often. If there is some new and very popular ride, we can wait a bit to try it. We might go just for dinner. We might make a trip just for the fireworks. It is just over an hour from our place in The Villages. When it is just the two of us, we never stay at the resort hotels so the cost of doing so is very rarely an issue. We fully recognize the costs and difficulties of bringing the family (as all four of my siblings have done with their families). When it is just us, Disney is still a very magical place.

We, like you, visited the Magical Kingdom (WDW) as young adults...on our August honeymoon almost 42 years ago. We could see the framework of Spaceship Earth in the developing EPCOT. We then took our children and now take our grandchildren even though we live in another State. AND It's still Magical! Of course, it's not for everyone, but we are both looking forward to purchasing annual passes so we can take in just the event/park that we want to see. It's nice to hear from someone who still loves Disney after all of these years!

When first moved here, bought year round FL rate annual Pass since it included parking, then when prices went way up bought FL Seasonal Pass which now includes parking, just changed to Weekday FL Seasonal Pass. We don't stay overnight. Just hard to book dining and FastPasses on our quickly planned trips.

Used to have Magic Kingdom Club which I let my parents use for their Winter escape, four nights at Contemporary or Polynesian, several meals and a dinner show, plus park hopper tickets, cost less then just tickets now.

Disney is hurting with their other divisions especially ESPN and is using the Parks to make up the losses.

Favorite in MK is Carosel of Progress, first saw it at 64-65 NY World's Fair. Liked it better when rides were extra and then admission cheaper. Many don't want to ride their wild rides they are building.

They need a new Park, bring back Horizons and other good attractions torn down.

If people did not want to go, why would they close some Parks to new people by Noon some days.

Of course, people don't remember how much lower wages and Salaries were back then.

I find it intriguing that when when people stop going to Disney, or the Sharon, or whatever they think they are somehow hurting the venue. When you step aside someone else will fill your place and the only person that no longer can enjoy what those venue's offer is you. I don't expect anyone to bash you for not attending whatever you don't want to attend, you have that personal right and obligation to follow your instincts....but it won't impact Disney at all. And I doubt it will impact anyone on here.
