From today's Daily Sun:
"... residents in The Villages as of Dec. 31 in Lake, Marion and Sumter counties, according to The Villages. The community's population was 117,258."

Of course this will be challenged because someone has read the population of The Villages MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) which is actually Sumter county and does not include The Villages in Lake and Marion counties. I wish it had been named more accurately - the Sumter MSA.

I've heard numbers between 130,000 and 150,000.

I wonder if that 117K number is a winter number or a summer number. Does it only include full time Florida residents or does it include nonresident owners who use their properties seasonally?

I think it includes all, the snow birds and the sweat birds.

Sweat birds...I love it! Never heard that term before.

This must be the case, essentially home ownership; possibly long term rentals. If it came from The Villages management they surely have a count of the resident passes which is where this number likely came from.

It’s pretty simple for both sets of owner residents, six month snow bird owners also pay for six months amenity while not here. Sweat birds benefit by this cost savings but NBD. I do wonder how many of them, after a few years, wish they were snow birds too. Most important, there is no place anywhere, as good as TV

Not me!! Lots of opportunity to head north for the summer including family home, but not interested. Can't duplicate TV life style anywhere else. Have learned to accept the heat and enjoy the amenities when snowbirds are gone.
