This morning in arctic Norway, onlookers were stunned when a gigantic luminous spiral formed in the northern sky. Veteran observers accustomed to the appearance of Northern Lights say they have never seen anything like it. It was neither a meteor nor any known form of atmospheric optics. Rumors that the spiral was caused by the botched launch of a Russian rocket have not yet been confirmed. Visit http://spaceweather.com for images and eyewitness reports of this mysterious apparition.

I read that the Russians admitted that the display was from the failure of one of their rockets. It was the 13th failed attempt for that series of missile. But, the light show was amazing! They should fail on the 14th so we all could see it again. :icon_wink:

Yes, Don. That's what they say here: http://www.sphere.com/science/article/russian-missile-failure-creates-strange-lights-over-norway/19274077

Initially I wondered if it had any connection to Tuesday night's CERN test run of the Haldron Collider. :22yikes:
