We recently purchased a home in the Villages and looking for a reputable water filtration company to install a whole house system. Pegasus Water Systems stopped by the house to sell their filtration system but Im not familiar with the system. Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated. We do not want to live on bottled water.

Nova System installed by Bob Novak. Easy installation. Change three filters every 12 - 18 months depending on usage. Would highly recommend.

Nova water systems. Including a water softener are the best investments in both homes we've owned in The Villages.

I’m not very knowledgeable about the water quality in the Villages. We bought last June in the very northernmost section and are part-time residents. Just wondering about the water quality and why people are putting in whole house water filtration. What are the problems that are corrected with the whole house filtration? Thanks in advance.

The smell and taste is what I have a problem with, we will be installing nova this fall. Right now I use bottled water for coffee and cpap.

Calcium is plentiful in our water. Causes buildup on fixtures, and is a cause of kidney stones. I also don’t think our water is near as the water up north. A water softener would be nice, but imho is not needed.

NOVA. I can't stand the smell and taste of city water. Also the water had sediment that kept stopping up my Pure Wash system. Now perfect.

Install your own system by connecting up at the whole house water shutoff valve in the garage. It will cost much much less and be just as effective. If you do not have the skills or time, hire a handyman. Shouldn't take more than a hour or so.

Where would you get your own system?

Go with Nova, they are priced well below the competition and it does an excellent job. They have dozens of references on here. We didn't hesitate in buying their systems and the change was noticed almost immediately. Our water is great now and with the two of us we only use one bag of pellets every 7 or 8 weeks. We use Potassium Chloride rather than the salt pellets.

I think a little clarification is in order. The Nova system used to be just a water filtration system. It didn't soften the water. Now they are offering a water softener as well as their filtration system. I've experienced a water filtration system without a softener system, and the one we had did not eliminate 100% of the water spots, nor did it help my skin as much as the water softener (even water softener alone--I've had them both) does.

If you have any kind of dry skin problems, go with the nova plus the water softener. I think the fact that they are now offering water softening along with water filtration (they used to claim the softener was not needed) is telling. I think they now have a good product with the filtration combined with the softener.

We are growing tired of using bottled water but can't tolerate the taste/smell of the water. Not interested in a water softener as taking a shower and washing the cloths/dishes is not an issue. Can anyone give me a ball park cost on having a whole house Nova filtration system installed? Also, who would you recommend for the installation? Thanks

The Nova Triple Whole House Water Filter does not use any salt or require electric. The Nova Water softener uses potassium chloride or sodium chloride. The Nova Whole House Filter
Filters all the water coming into the house removing all the sediment( which clogs your pores ) and all the chlorine ( which dries out your skin and hair). Also softens your laundry and your whites come out white in your laundry. One other great benefit is you can drink the water throughout your entire house safely. Plus no need for a fridge filter anymore!
Most people do not find a need for a water softener once the Nova Whole House Filter system is installed. Though the option is always available to add a softener if desired.

As far as i am concerned this is the biggest scam on newbies that move here. to listen to them talk and test your water every on that drinks the water here is killing themselves. Wait until you here the deal you will be getting. Pucker up.

Do NOT confuse the NOVA system with any of those companies that harass you the first week you buy your new Villages home. I will not name those companies...many of you know who they are. I will advise anyone who buys a brand new home in The Villages to beware of any high pressure sales pitches from anyone.

Folks, it is simple. This is not a 3rd world country. The water coming out of your faucet is safe.....it will not kill you. Folks who live in The Villages for a long time drinking the water are not statistically dying sooner from the water they drink.

That being said...many folks prefer drinking and using filtered water. If you are one of those folks, you can buy many different filtration systems.....at all different price points and all different levels of filtration.

After doing a good amount of research, I, being one who preferred having a whole house filter system, chose the filter system from NOVA. I felt it did the most "bang for the buck". The three filter cartridges that come with the NOVA system does everything I need. Yes, there are more expensive filtration systems but I was not willing to pay hundreds or even thousands more for a filter that may or may not be any better.

Bob and his son Brad are local residents who sell , install and stand behind their filter system. I think the price, for what you get, installed and everything, is very reasonable.

I personally do not like softened water. Some folks of course do. NOVA also sells a softener system if you want one for MUCH less that the high pressure folks.

Brad and Bob are not high pressure....they do not need to be. There business comes mainly from the word of mouth from satisfied neighbors. They never come to your home unless you call them, and they do not do fancy and sometimes deceiving water tests designed to scare you into buying something.

In short, they are good people who sell a good product at a reasonable price. They stand behind their work and their product. I am one of their satisfied customers. I only post this because I did not want anyone to confuse them with the "high pressure" companies.

Respectfully, Frank D.

we have the NOVA system also...installed it just about a year ago....very pleased with it. I most likely will have NOVA come back to install the softener that they carry to take care of the calcium. Recently a young lady came to the house to conduct a 'free water test' (we responded to a post card, the name of the company seemed to suggest that it was connected with the city water department, it's not)....the test showed zero chlorine in the water coming out of our house tap. However she went on to 'trash' the Nova system saying that it wasn't doing anything, used some scare tactics and advised us that we should rip it out and install her $6K model... hello young lady! What her test results did show is that the hardness was 9 on a scale of 0-10 (0 being the target)...this of course is subject to her tests actually being valid.

Water in the Villages is excellent. Check with the State for a copy of our water analysis. It comes directly out of natural spring from the Florida aquifer just like zepherhills bottled water does, only difference is chlorine is added to ours. Just let it sit for 30 minutes it's and the chlorine smell dissipates. Don't waste your money. I am a licensed water operator so know what I'm talking about and do not work for the Villages, work for the FDEP. Don't waste your money on a service you don't need. These people are trying to scare you so you'll buy their product and your neighbors don't know what the facts are because they bought into it. Get the analysis required yearly of all water departments from the State.

Never had any filtration or softener system. No kidney stones, cancer or any other issues mentioned here. What are we missing , other than massive costs connected with "water" systems?

The only thing I don't like about down here in Florida that I liked up north was the system I had up north you serviced the system yourself, but down here they want to do everything themselves or the systems warranty is no good. It just seems like everything down here means money for someone. Not saying that's bad but I want to spend my retirement myself, not spend my money supporting everyone else. If you want to have someone else do everything for you & you have the money to do so, that's great! But they're are people that don't or can't pay for everything that gets done. Sorry, but I worked 38 yrs. to earn my retirement for me & my family to enjoy.

After we purchased in 2016 we interviewed 4 companies. The best one without any hesitation was the GE water Filtration system. Priced nice and affordable. It also included a reverse osmosis system for drinking water. I also believe they are on the approved Village vendor list

We used Kiley & Sons off 441 just south of of the 466 intersection. Phone 352-753-7586. We got the smaller filtration system but I would recommend the large size filter system. But we are happy with it. Also consider installing an under the sink filter for kitchen as it adds a secondary filter.

Go with Pegasus in Wildwood, Fl. Pricey at 3K but the seven filters in the system filter out everything. Your tap water will taste better than bottled water, your fixtures will last longer and the Villages' water smell will be gone. The system backwashes through regular, inexpensive salt pellets.

Actually, the calcium in the water is beneficial to your health, and the belief that it causes kidney stones is an urban myth that has been soundly disproven. The sodium in softened water is more of a problem. Our water is perfectly safe to drink. Water from different sources is an acquired taste which you get used to. In my opinion, the many treatment companies who knock on your door are using scare tactics to rip off unknowledgeable people. I am a chemical engineer with many years experience in water treatment.

When we purchased our home here, the previous owner has installed a very expensive system that is fine but is very expensive to maintain. When this system goes, I will have a plumber install a system from Lowes (using existing plumbing) that I can replace the filters myself for a fraction of what this system’s maintenance cost..Replacing the filters every 6 to 9 months can easily be done yourself and ordered through Lowe’s or Amazon prime.....no maintenance nightmare at a fraction of the cost.......

jerryrg, you're thinking like me now. That's what exactly what I had up north when I lived there. Best thing that I ever bought. You had no one telling you, you had to have it serviced once a yr. or the warranty wasn't any good. You had it serviced only if you had a issue & then it was lots of money less. I don't know why that down here you get it serviced when they told you or it'll cost you more than the water treatment filtration system is worth. Sorry, to sound like a prude but it just seems like nothing down here last as long as the same thing up north. I know someone will say everything here is so cheap. Again maybe in some parts of the country that's the way they live all of their lives, paying through the nose. But some of us there is cheap area's of the U.S. to live. You did the right thing, JERRYRG!:BigApplause::BigApplause:
