Tankless Water Heater Question

Does anyone have a tankless water heater, and if so, how do you like it? Do builders at TV offer this option, and how expensive is it? Thanks.

I know they make them because a friend here in Ohio put 1 in and says he likes it - but he has 2 daughters so I don't have a good feel for what the gas bill is like for a couple who aren't taking endless showers and doing mega washloads of clothes. Anyone?

Am thinking about replacing our conventional gas water heater in TV in a couple of years. Ours will be 4 plus years old when we move there this fall, and I think the average life of a conventional water heater tank is 10 yrs old, would like to figure out how long it takes to pay for itself.

We have had one for a couple of years--works fine--would do it again. We have never done a close comparison of electric costs but definitely do not feel the electric bill has gone up and probably has gone down.
It's amazing how quickly it heats up water. As you know--it simply does not operate unless you turn in a hot water faucet and start drawing water--so you can go away for weeks and don't have to shut down the currrent to anything--then come back and start drawing hot water within a minute or so.
I would say the only drawback is that you probably use a little more water because when you turn on the hot water faucet you have a period of time ( less than a minute ) whereby you afe only getting cold water out of the faucet versus maybe fifteen seconds? with a conventional hot water heater ( that's because THAT heater has been keeping water hot ALL THE TIME--even though you have not had a need for hot water--for possibly many hours or even longer! ).

Thanks for your response. You beat me too it. There is no reason to get advice from someone not in TV to a TV question. I do not need to know how people in Ohio are faring with a tankless unit when we do not have the same weather, building structures, etc.

Sorry if I seem blunt but it gets old hearing of non-TV answers to TV only questions. I know you are trying to help but it really does not help.

If you are in a village that has gas service, you can contact TECO. When they turned on our gas service, the technician mentioned that they offer tankless water heaters.

We just had to replace our water heater (gas) - again - here in Tampa.
Went through TECO and the guy said he doesn't recommend the
tankless if it's electric.
Even with the tax rebate they're expensive. $1,500 to TECO, $1,400 to the subcontractor. We didn't go with it due to the expense. AND the plumbers TECO subcontracts with expected to pocket the rebate.

I have researched tankless water heaters since we require one at one of our
apartments..They are mainly used to save space.......The cheapest one is about $700 for a single family home...Easy to hook up..No further maintenance required........
Check your nearest Home Depot.....The one near to us has one as a display
model.....You can go Google.com and also enter "tankless water heaters"
and you'll get oodles of different barnd names and information and pricing.
