Is this normal when using a shoe orthotic for plantar fascitis?

Is it normal when using a orthotic shoe insert for plantar fascitis for it to make your feet feel worse than ever? Hoping it gets better. Wore it to the store and I thought I would die before I got home. Then when I put my really comfortable (pain-free) houseslippers it felt like I was walking on the edge of a 2x4 board. Just wondering what other people experiences have been.

Inserts are stretching your plantar. More you wear them, you will not be able to go without

Was the orthotic fitted by a podiatrist or something you bought at Walgreens? Big difference. Did you take out the insole that was in the shoe before you put in the orthotic? They take time getting used to but you shouldn't be in that much pain unless the fascia is extremely inflamed.

I have used podiatrist provided orthotics for over 40 years. It is the way to go if one has arch issues.

I mentioned in another post that when I had a custom orthotic made years ago, the technician said it would feel like I had a potato in my shoe. It did, but no pain.

After a few weeks, it was built up a little more and at some point I didn't even realize it was there and my problem was gone.

I have gone years without using it. If a little tenderness starts to develop at the heel, I wear it for a while and the problem is gone.

I had a "hard" orthotic made by my podiatrist through a mold of my foot. It was made of some type of resin.....I was never able to wear it without pain no matter what i did (short time, gradual wear, continual wear). I had another one made of more flexible material with build up spots at both the arch and heel...that one I can wear comfortably with no pain.

Perhaps ask your podiatrist about alternative orthotics.

I too suffered with this issue. I went t CVS and stood on the Dr Scholl's equipment, follow the advice and pain went away within 3 days! This was 7 years ago and I still use them daily!

I had the same problem, I took mind out of my shoe, Never put them back. It took sometime but my feet are good now.
