Has anyone had a speedometer/odometer installed in their golf cart? I want one but the ones I see advertised are near $300. I could use some help finding someone to install a cheaper one. All I want to know is how far I am traveling, don't care about the speed.

Save some money and install or have someone install a bicycle speedometer that will tell you both speed & distance. Costs vary from $10 on up depending upon what your preference is. Digital readouts are also avail for easy reading for a few bucks more.

I have installed several Schwinn bicycle speedometers on carts. Walmart for less than $20. I think Target has them too.

We have the Schwinn digital bicycle type speedometers installed on our golf carts. There's a guy in Mira Mesa area who installs these using a custom-fabricated mounting bracket that makes them very visible from the steering wheel. He also installs a small blue LED light so you can see the numbers at night (comes on when headlights are turned on). He charges about $75 for the device and installation. PM me if you're interested and I'll send you his name/number.
I reset my trip odometer each day so I can track how far I've gone. It also does average speed, max speed, full odometer, clock, etc.

Yep, that's the guy. I called Jim yesterday to be sure he's still in business and ready for more. He said to go ahead and post his info. He will do up to 8 installs a week.

Had Jim Cesaroni 259-4768 install speedometer on my Gas cart was was VERY satisified with his work including the soldering of joints, and addition of "night lite" for the speedometer at night. Also gave me "specific" instructions of how to operate, time, tripodometer, speedometer and very impressed! Will also get my wife's cart done this week.
Thanks Jim.... One of the few people who do things "RIGHT" !! :beer3:

I also endorse Jim who did my 08 gas Yamaha 2 weeks ago. Very nice job and good conversation while he worked.

Todd Casey of Todd Casey Golf Cart Repairs installed mine for $80. It included a little bracket and a light wired into the batteries so you can see it at night.

If you have a smart phone there are plenty of free apps that will give you the info you need. GPS essentials is the one i use.

I don't believe an old style mechanical speedometer will work on a golf cart because they were engineered to accurately measure the speed of a bicycle equipped with 26" or 27" tires. As far as I know there's no way to re-calibrate them to work on vehicles with smaller tires.
The digital units work very well on Golf carts and can be calibrated for any tire size.

A GPS will work.
And for a lot less than $300. Quite a bit more functionality.
