Who serves the best Reuben sandwich in the Villages?

I'm not an expert, but have you tried Toojays Deli or McAlister's Deli. Google their names...their Reuben's look great.

Although the Reuben sandwich at the Pine Street Pub in Inverness is not absolutely, traditionally correct, it is delicious. So are their other sandwiches. My buddy said that his BLT was the best that he'd ever had.

"Reuben - $9.50 - House made, shredded corned beef piled high on a marble rye Hoagie, topped with four slices of Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing."

Shredded corned beef and on a hoagie or sub roll?
Somewhere a Jewish deli owner is turning in his grave!

The corned beef must be sliced from a flat cut brisket.
It must be served on rye bread.
It is so written.

There was a real deli in NYC called Reuben's-it was the home of the REUBEN--NO sandwich & I mean NO sandwich here comes close --must have real corned beef cut as stated above, real sauerkraut, Russian dressing, or Thousand Island and most important good rye bread

I love a Reuben Sandwich and I think McAlister's is better then Toojay's and to my surprise I had one at Mallory the other day and it was very good and reasonably priced.

My best local Rubin was at BONIFAY COUNTRY CLUB.....been a while since we've been there so I don't know if it built the same but you may want to give it a try...let us know... basic requirement is to grill the butted rye, not toast the bread like some do.

Does Fresh Market sell corned beef? in the deli or otherwise for home cooking? Coming up with pastrami that looks and tastes like what I had as a kid might be much more difficult

Yeah it's impossible to get good Pastrami in this country anymore. Corned Beef is easy.

I like that part in the Redford film "Quiz Show" when the Northern Exposure actor talks about the origins of the Reuben......

Dear Mr. Brat. I have caught you yearning for a "lesser cut of beef".

I see your brisket and I raise you my chuck roast.

Katz's ships.Corn Beef and Pastrami - Sliced by the Pound
$32.00

Spend over $200 and it ships free. I'll bet 4 oz makes a good size sandwich. Sounds like a good idea for a theme party. Each person puts up $10. You may need a couple of sides.

Katz's never made a sandwich that wasn't sliced by hand and under 12 oz's

We're NOT in New York or Philadelphia, or Boston or Chicago or wherever it was we came from. We merely try to find something that could, or might, remind us from home. To diss the places that do this is futile IMHO!! I, for one, don't do sandwiches anymore due to not being able to eat the bread...and I do miss a good bread. BUT it would make me sick to ingest!

Give me Eisenberg's any day or Frankel's where I can get some matzo ball soup.
Katz's......meh. Pickel's out of the jar. Don't even make their own mustard anymore.

My husband!! :icon_hungry:

But seriously, I'm very picky with my Reuben's. Mainly because I hate everything that makes up a Reuben, except when they're all put together LOL

Havana has a sandwich called The Steamer that I thought was delicious. It's similar to a Reuben without the sauerkraut.

My husband also can't eat bread or anything with gluten if that is your problem. The only gluten free bread that he will eat is Glutino that they sell in Publix at Southern Trace. We initially needed to have them special order it for us but now I guess it sells really well because they keep it stocked now.

Our "pickle store" in Ohio was a shelf among the canned green beans, cornrelish, tomatoes, and chow chow, bread and butter pickles and dill pickles, down in the basement, next to the room that held coal for our furnace. I helped mom can sometimes.

I think it is interesting how where we come from colors our food choices.

My son has celeriac disease, so no gluten. Like peanut allergies, this seems to me to come out of no where. It's real. And if you notice the how many more items they sell in the store it effects many. I'll start one

Black and whites are a Jewish thing, even though they are called a cookie, BWs are more cake cookie. TooJays BWs are for those who have never had a true BW, they just can’t compare to NY. When friends come to visit from NY they bring half of Eisenbergs with them.:mmmm:

Just outside of TV, on 441/27 in Fruitland Park, Rae Rae's. Tim makes his own corned beef. The sandwich is called a Reubenizer and is the best down here for these New Yorkers craving a real deli Reuben. Great rye bread, also.

Tried toojays a couple of weeks ago, my sandwich was great but my wife’s Rueben was sent back, so tough it was inedible. Our biggest disappointment was the response, or lack there of. Totally indifferent, took it away without comment. It was too late to reorder. They did remove it from the bill but al least act like you care, waiter and manager.
