View Full Version : Block needed for gas pedal - short wife

The guy I bought my cart from had a wooden block with a metal bracket attached to it that allowed it to easily be slid onto the gas pedal and then easily removed. He mentioned that "some guy" around the Villages makes them. The cart we bought has the seats that adjust back and forth so we thought we could do without a block, but she thinks it would be handy to have one. Anyone know where I might be able to find one?

My husband just attached a wood block with a couple of zip ties. I did see a guy advertising the real ones on the Nexdoor Neighbor website a while back.

I'll check nextdoor. Zip ties won't work for us. We only have 1 cart right now and she's 5' and I am 6'4".

Has anyone heard of something to be easily used for 'leg length challenged'(:D) folks...regarding the brake pedal?

I have seen a lot more issues from folks who can't/won't/don't properly use the left pedal...than problems being able to use the right one.

I used a block of wood with velcro. When she uses it, she just attaches the block ... easy peasy.

First of all there are many velcro copies. The ones I am thinking about come from china and are far less expensive.
THEY DO NOT HOLD AS WELL OR LAST AS LONG.

Velcro if you look at it is nylon hooks that catches a fabric material. I looses holding power as it is used and as it gets dirty. Also, it is held in place with a contact adhesive. I expect the adhesive also looses holding power over time and in heat.

I hope there are better solutions.

When I was 12 years old my parents bought me a 10 speed 26" bike, it was way too big for me at the time so I used these pedal blocks. A block would go on each side of the pedal on a bike, but on the golf cart put both blocks on the top side and then add the rubber surround, which is ribbed and helps the foot make contact. $10 at Walmart.

'Velcro,' (like 'Kleenex' for 'facial tissues') is simply just a name brand...for the 'hook & loop' fastening system.

As JoelJohnson describes though, I'm sure that if the 'hook & loop' attachment he's chosen wears out...it's pretty simple to replace it.

So I'll stand by Tomwed's description of..."Brilliant."

PS. "Loses" holding power. :ho:

That would make it very difficult to set the parking tab on the brake pedal.

Agreed.

However, I still maintain that someone who has a problem using the accelerator...will have even more problems properly using the brakes.

A good solution needs to be found... for the left pedal too.

I don't have a cart. I guess the seat doesn't slide. Maybe if you change the integrity [if that's the right word] of the cart by adding a block you may have a problem should anything go wrong.

Way back when, my wife use to put a pillow behind her back. She hardly drove, I drove.

Just buy a rubber sanding block and zip tie it to peddle. I'm a short woman and stumbled on this solution. Told my neighbors abut five others did it and love it. Bought at Walmart less than $5.

If you show it to Paul Miller he can either make one or even maybe one better. He is a handyman in TV and was a Welder Fabricator in Pa. His # is 610-730-6354 Paul works with Therapists when furniture or things need to be done to help their patients, and also works for several realtors when homes have problems before and after the sale. If I sound prejudice I am he is my husband.

I'm going to take a guess...and say you've never raced cars?

It's called..."heel & toeing." :D

And yes, for my 'fans,' I'm joking...as obviously we don't have to brake and downshift our carts at the same time.

Ditto on the sanding block. I used some heavy duty rubber bands to attach it. I cut them from an old motorcycle inner tube. It brings the contact point closer to the driver, but not quite as much as the block of wood.

I was at Brownwood Golf Cart store about 6 months ago and saw a pedal on the counter. It appeared to be a gas pedal extender that was shaped like a metal foot (similar to the old hot rod gas pedals) and extending a couple inches... I didn't investigate at the time, but might be worth looking into. It appeared to be something that screwed to the pedal, but could be made portable / detachable.

I saw that also. It appears to be more of a permanent install device though, so won't be practical.

How about this,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, get some scrap Styrofoam, left at the curb sides for pickup, then use two very large cable ties available from electric supply or from Home Depot?
Just a suggestion. Styro foam may be available form the Furniture stores too. A lot of it comes with TV sets.

Hope this helps.

My wife used Small pillow behind her back, it moves her fwd enough to reach the peddles even with the set all the way fwd.
