Went to HH Restaurant after golf yesterday. Ordered the Golfer special, Tuna sandwich on rye. Made the tragic error of asking that my bread be toasted. We don't do that I was told by my server, you can't get the bread toasted when you order a special. OK, so I had to eat the filling and leave the bread on the plate simply because I would never have known it was stale had they toasted it. What a joint!

They had already broken their own rules by giving it to you on rye. Menu says no substitutions on Golfer's Special and the tuna comes on wheat. I guess they must be having enough trouble "cracking the nut" that they cannot afford the milliwatt seconds of energy required to toast your bread.

I'm curious, did the special come on rye...or did you ask for it instead of wheat?

Is it expensive to make?

I'm a little short on bread at the moment.

The first time you make it could be expensive if you don't own a toaster.

I have some Toaster Tips I could pass along so you don't learn the hard way like I did.

Here is the menu for Hacienda Hills.

The Golfer's special is priced at $6.29 if you order a beverage.

Sorry for my indiscretion. You are right, the menu did say wheat but it actually came on stale rye.

For some reason this made me think of the Jack Nickolson breakfast at the diner scene in Five Easy Pieces.

I think that came out after kuckoos nest. Jack was our James Dean or Marlon Brando.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) - Rotten Tomatoes (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/one_flew_over_the_cuckoos_nest/)

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was in released 1975, Five Easy Pieces in 1970.

I remember getting hold the bun orders when I worked as an assistant manager at the concession at Bower's Mansion. It overlooked the swimming pool which had a number of very cute female life guards.

Hold the chicken is still amusing. I never had anyone order a bun and not the burger.

This work experience carried along as I was often called "That hot dog salesman" by my chief rival at the U of MN Law Library for positions. Hold the hot dog! I thought that a few times around her but never said it to her. Glad I did not. Would have been in BIG trouble.

I also managed a concession stand which sold hot dogs at the Idlewild Park's Softball diamond in Reno, Nevada. And worked at the food service in a Junior Ski Program up on Slide Mountain between Reno and Lake Tahoe.

We never made toast that I remember but would often toast the hamburger buns.

These were Summer and/or Winter jobs while I was getting my two BAs at the University of Nevada, Reno and taking many extra courses while playing with Graduate School.

I used to talk quite a bit about One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest with one of the partners of this food concession business. He went onto become the Warden of the Northern Nevada prison that OJ Simpson was held at for a while even though my old boss probably had retired before OJ Simpson was one of the inmates there.

That is just too funny.

I believe the family that runs Johnny Rockets, Red Sauce and Amerikanos owns HH. The guy that owns W of B owns Glenview.

Wrong--if the family that owns , Johnny Rockets, Red Sauce, Americans, and Havana --owned HH --they would not be caught dead putting out the drek, that HH is serving-- whatever they put out is good, for their price point--taste, is something else

I fail to see the problem here. What is toast, but dried up bread. Essentially stale bread. You got what you were asking for. :boxing2:

Musta ran out of stale wheat bread.

They probably toasted the wheat...so no one would notice it was stale.

Quoted from the online news:

A family that seems to have the Midas Touch when it comes to running restaurants in The Villages, is looking at taking over Hemingway’s at Havana.

Havana restaurant is closed, but will reopen as Hemingway's at Havana.
Havana Country Club has been home to Hemingway at Havana’s.
George Suleiman confirmed to **************.com on Thursday afternoon that he and his family are looking at the possibility of taking over the restaurant space at the Havana Country Club.

“We should know by the end of the week,” he said.

The Suleimans operate Johnny Rockets and RedSauce in Lake Sumter Landing. A little more than a year ago, they took over a spot where a Greek restaurant had languished at Spanish Springs Town Square. After extensive renovation, it reopened as Amerikanos Grille and has thrived.

If they move ahead at Havana Country Club, the Suleimans will have another chance to work their magic.

Kind of makes you miss places like Stew Lenoards in Conn. They were featured on 60 Minutes one time. When you entered their large market there was a sign over the door that gave their rules. They were, Rule 1 The Customer is always right. If having a problem understanding rule 1 go to rule 2 which says see rule 1. And they meant it. As a customer they always ensured your satisfaction. What a great and successful store. :BigApplause:

Better food in a lot of military mess halls, and military clubs than most restaurants here--what a shame-eating @ home more & more--tired of walking out and saying what did we spend $$$ on--most of the time our bill is in excess of $120.00, including tip
