Twice today I’ve had a cart in front of me turn hard left from the diamond lane across both traffic lanes causing cars to lock it up to keep from hitting them.

It really seems like some people go brain dead when they get in their cart. I’d really hate it if their stupidity got someone besides them killed or injured.

Ignorance
or
Arrogance

All other excuses fall under one of the above.

I know what you mean. It's unbelievable the things we observe daily with people in their golf carts and cars. The villages is the top test in defensive driving skills!

The other morning a woman blew thru a red light on the corner of Bailey Trl and St. Charles--the light was red for more than 15 secs. when I pulled up alongside of her, I told her she had run thru a red light and she replied" I didn't see any red light"--She had her face buried in her coffee cup

Oblivious--third reason

"Oblivious" = 'Arrogant AND Ignorant.'

We have LOTS of those types around here.

how about The Villager entitlement!
its just plain stupidity.
And now if you fail to stop in time you will be sued by one of the commercial we see all the time on the Tube, because we didn't have control of our vehicle even thou these IDIOTS don't have the right of way and dart out in front of you.
These are the same people that think crossing the street in a golf path is a cross walk and they think they have the right of way. JEZZZ just stupid people!!!!!

I wouldn't worry about it. If someone does a stupid move in a golf cart, it will not be the person in the car that gets hurt.

There's a class on golf cart safety offered by The Villages Insurance on (I believe) a monthly basis. My wife and I took it before allowing ourselves to drive our new cart when we moved here last year. One of the things they covered was turning left from a diamond lane (and doing so directly is a BIG no-no and is the most common cause of golf cart fatalities in The Villages).

It amazes me that folks are NOT required to take this class before driving a cart around town while at the same time you are required to take 6 hours of classes (101, 102 and 103) before you're allowed to reserve a pickleball court.

Another brain scurgeon-didn't want to merge, so he decided to stay in the diagonally striped lane and made his right turn on to St. Charles--he almost got nailed by a car making a right turn from the car lane

That "IS" a puzzlement for sure....re: the usage and rules of the road with the golf-cart. Maybe (???) one day it will be a requirement but after...what???!!! Too many accidents most likely.

It would be impossible to enforce such a requirement. The roads are owned by the counties and the MMPs are owned by the CDDs.

It is a VERY good idea, an excellent idea, and I am guessing that the conscientious and the thoughtful and the careful take those classes and the uncaring and the rascals wouldn't benefit.. BUT....HOW would anyone, COULD anyone police and enforce a rule such as that? There would have to be statutes, a law in place, AND a way to see that the person hasn't sold the vehicle so marked to another and then who would PAY the dozens of people to keep track and enforce who took the classes, who owns the cart, who is up to date?

We could pass a law too, that no one can operate a vehicle impaired.

I think we all just need to remember those golf carts don't have sides to protect our breakable bodies and the bodies of other nice people and try to be both patient, and very careful and not drink and drive...

As long as carts have a zero chance of being ID'd, they have a sense of entitlement and they can skirt rules with impunity--there several laws they can't ignore

gravity
centrifugal and centripetal forces
inertia

I believe in keeping the odds down, since I don't play golf--no need to own one

The most important feature in any car we buy is safety--after seeing the video of a MB sliding on its roof for a 1/4 mile on the Autobahn @ 140mph and the driver walked away-- that is what made us MB users

I had my office mgr die from HIV in the mid 80's--she had gotten a blood transfusion following a surgical procedure

There are no do overs--for a little bit of fun and their conseqences--we saw 3 men killed on the Trent Severn seaway when their small boat capsized after being swept over a spillway

I’m more concerned about someone with them or the car swerving and striking another cart traveling behind the village idiot.

Just today I was driving Odell and Stillwater when several of the cart drivers kept weaving over the white line into the car lane. It certainly keeps one on their toes!! NOT sure if they can't see, are distracted or what is going on. THEN there are the car drivers that veer out over the center line when they pass a cart that actually is within the diamond path. Guess they have perception issues!! What is scarey though is when they're headed your way AND there are carts in the path next to you so NO where to go but to slam on the brakes. :22yikes:

The one guide that covers it all

Chance of people around you knowing the laws-slight

Chance of the people around you knowing the laws and following them-what is less than slight? SLIGHTER?

THINK OF THE STUPIDEST POSSIBLE THING FOR PEOPLE TO DO-COVERS IT ALL.

I recall reading that 90+percent of accidents are avoidable.
Thus, there is no such thing as an accident 90% of the time it is STUPID.

Had this same conversation with a friend earlier this week. It was stated just as you said...then add "some" who can't see well, who are on multiple medications, maybe some severe health issues and more. Common sense (if any) is clouded by some of these. Oh...and add alcohol and maybe some starting of dementia and things really get scarey!!!
