Went there the other day for an early dinner. While chewing my salad, I felt something hard. I took a small piece of black plastic out of my mouth. Complained to the waitress who brought over the manager. He took the plastic and asked if we wanted another salad but I declined. Had the rest of our meals and as the waitress was giving us our checks she said, “ we found out what it is.” Turns out the ladle for the dressing was falling apart and chipped off in the salad. No offer to reduce our bill at all. I wasn’t in an argumentive move so we just got the heck out of there. I read another posting on this forum where someone’s wife’s “to go” salad had a food prep glove in it. I just thought I would left other people know of our recent experience at Cody’s

Maybe we shouldn't eat salads at Cody's?

Cody's ? Peanut shells all over the place and the Rest Rooms are a disgrace.

I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. Plenty of other choices.

I always judge the kitchen by the condition of the bathroom. If the bathroom is nasty, the kitchen is the same.

We actually have gone to Cody’s quite often and we have a brand new one within walking distance from our villa. I really want to like this place but they are making it difficult.

I stopped going there for lunch because they advertise 2 for 1 draft beer. False advertising. They charge over $4.50 for two beers and you cannot buy just one beer. I would rather go to a country club where you can get a draft beer for $2.50.

Well, thanx for reporting...but...that seems to me to equal two salad incidents out of how many salads served? What are the odds?

I attended a business dinner one time and five of us ate in one of the finest downtown restaurants in Cincinnati. I noticed a guest poking at his salad with his fork and asked what the problem might be. He picked up his plate and showed it to me. After staring at it for a few minutes the problem was identified. In the middle of the plate was greenest grasshopper I have ever seen alive and staring back. He blended in perfectly with the salad greens. We asked the maître de to come over and pointed to the creature. They comped us a $ 50.00 bottle of wine along with free deserts. A somewhat different policy then Cody's follows obviously. It's amazing, not even a draft. The bad PR on TOTV will cost them a thousand times the cost of a few brews, which might have resulted in a favorable review.

Their 2 =fer drinks are really a shame-their 2-fer do not equal one good drink @ Arnold Palmers or the Bonefish--small glasses & short pours

Quit going there, every time we were there, always a problem. Sent food back to many times. Have been going to Texas Roadhouse instead.

Cody's seems to has been going downhill over the last couple years....slower service, quality of food and cleanliness to name a couple things. When we first started going there about 4 years ago it was good.....wonder what happened? We stopped going about 6 months ago and have no urge to return.

The newest Cody's up by Mulberry Grove is the best one of the three in The Villages, IMHO.

About mulberry , a very close friend of mine went there after they had opened-- when the sevber attempted to serve some ribs, they slipped off the plate, and they fell on the floor--she picked them up and tried to serve them again== nuff said

We were regular visitors to Cody’s in Ocala on S.R 200 when we living there during winter. We enjoyed it and went every now and then...........fast forward to this past winter we tried the new one in Mulberry. My wife ordered a half rack of ribs and they were cold as if they came out of the refrigerator and forgot to heat them. Even though we sent them back the replacement or heated cold ones were not very good. We won’t be back there.

The pweson who told be about the incident can walk to the new Cody's , he will never set foot in the place again--if they can do this in plain site ,imagine what happens behind closed doors in the kitchen

Sorry for your bad experience. I am surprised you weren't comped the meal minimum. I would have talked to the manager on duty but that's me. The waitress should have gotten the manager involved. Not a good customer service move on their part.

Some businesses are doing so well, they are indifferent to complaints. Sometimes making a stink yields better results but certainly understand your dismay.

Does anyone ever wonder just how the bathrooms became “yuck”? It is probably not the employees. Just saying....

Totally irrelevant.

What is relevant, is who/whom is responsible...for maintaining and keeping them clean.

Quite frankly I've observed this in many men's restrooms in the villages. Need to have those signs that read " Hitters with short bats please stand closer to the plate" !

Wow - unbelievable how everyone wants to jump on the bit$$ing wagon - I find most of these stories just that - stories. Someone heard this from someone who heard it from someone... and on and on. If you search, you will find stories about every single restaurant in the area.

I have been to Cody's many times - go to all 3 of them. Yes, occasionally the food is just OK, most times pretty good, and once in a great while it's terrible. When it's terrible, I talk to a manager and the issue has always been taken care of. I'm not sure what bathroom the poster went into, but I have never seen any of the bathrooms in a "nasty" condition. I'm not sure what "nasty" means... but they have always been clean and don't stink.

Cody's in Brownwood has the coldest beer of all 3, Lake Sumter has the best view, and Mulberry is a short walk for me :) All 3 have some of the best music every night in The Villages.

The only way to avoid going to a restaurant where there is an issue once in a great while is to eat at home. And what do you do when your spouse accidently drops the top from a seasoning shaker in the salad? Post here - haha!

I agree with much of what you are saying. However if I had swallowed that sharp piece of black plastic that fell off of one of their salad utensils which they admitted happened, it would have been a little different than being disappointed in a substandard meal. And nothing from the manager other than an offer for more salad.

The one time we had an issue at a Cody's it was corrected on the spot and some form of comp. No, no rubber gloves or plastic episodes but a simple mistake. I have seen the men's room in disarray because some can't seem to find the urinal much less the trash can . Plain gross.:22yikes:

As a teenager, I worked in a restaurant, first doing dishes, then waiting tables and then cooking. Good experience.

Wonderful owner and managers.
Their number one comment is :

In a restaurant, there is always, always, work to do! If the bathrooms are not tide y and if the workers are having fun then the kitchen and the service will fall down, so remember that. Get up and leave.

We ate at Cody's in Mulberry a couple of Sundays ago and we were very disappointed. After we were served our salad we waited over an hour for our entree to be served. We observed around us that many entrees were being returned to the kitchen. Our waitress, a sweet girl, stopped by our table several times saying our meal would be right out. It was not.... At one point I caught the attention of another waiter and asked him what was going on in the kitchen that we were not getting our food. He was very flip and said, "There's a whole lot of cooking going on." My husband had ordered stuffed pork chops and scraped the stuffing off and said it was tasteless and our green bean were mush and very over salted. I don't think we will be going back for a while until they can get their act together. By the way our waitress apologized for the long wait and received a nice tip.
