Ok whats the deal with the majic number of 47 Degrees. At 8:15 Scooter had to announce that they were shutting him down because it had dropped below 47 degrees. Spanish Springs had shut down at 8:00. He went on the play till 8:30 but that was it. There were still about 200 of us there enjoying the show.

We were at Market Square the other night and the musicians kept talking about how difficult strumming the guitar strings were in the cold air (it was definitely chilly). It made me think that heaters of some sort should be installed for the entertainers.

It's also very difficult on the voices.

I remember when I went out last year and there was no entertainment and they told me that it was too cold. I went from SS to LS and found no entertainment there either.
I would have to think that they ran a survey of how many people actually show up for the shows when the weather gets cold and figured that 47 degrees is when the attendance gets to a point where it is not worth paying the musicians to play since no one is there.
I guess they err on the side of caution. Think about the groups playing in this weather. It cannot be nice for them either.
I wish they would extend the temperature rule to the golf courses so we would not get points for below 47 degree weather.

I wonder if there might something in the performers contract about performing in the cold?

A friend told me that the cold weather rules had recently been updated. I am not quite sure how the following works but I copied this from Golfthe villages.com
"Reservation Point Only Times We realize there are different
personal tolerances for cold, wind, rain, etc. When there are clear
signs of severe inclement weather, although the golf course remains
open for play, only reservation points will be assigned for golfers who
wish to cancel."
Curious if that means say tomorrow am it is 40 around my scheduled tee time and I call up and say it is too cold for me then I would not get cancellation points???

Last week when it was very cold, I called on the day of play and was only "awarded" one point. NO penalty points for that day. I was okay with that.

Personally I would be fine with that rather than the three points that used to be charged to you.
Getting back to the entertainment story it would be nice to know if there is a policy regarding adverse weather and the outside entertainment.

You have the answer right in your name. You youngsters are stalwart and cold impervious while lots of us residents who are OVER 55 get chilly sooner. :cold::a20:

Vendors and entertainment are sent home at 47 degrees. Hypothermia comes on easier to the old and very young. Alcohol consumption can also speed it up.

I don't play or even live in The Villages (YET!), but I can tell you as one who plays the guitar that it gets difficult to play when it is cold. Your fingers are just not as nimble. More important perhaps, cold weather can really cause problems with guitars. Not only is it difficult to keep it in tune, it can result in permanent damage to the instrument (especially acoustics). That may be part of the issue from the musicians viewpoint. To supply a heat source (if it is uneven as it no doubt would be outside) might even make the problem worse. As an example, taking a guitar from a cold car into a warm room requires that the instrument be left in the case (with the case just cracked open slightly) for about a half hour so that it can gradually acclimate.
