Before I elaborate, yes, "Trader Joe's" Love that place, we are from VA and shopped TJ weekly.
Back to that man made beach with wave machine. If such a venue were constructed close to TV, (but not inside the buble) it would provide an easy alternative to driving all the way to Orlando, and be a draw for people of all ages. While there already is the huge venue in Orlando, a wave park more modest in size/scope would provide another dimenson to TV without actually being "in" TV. For those of us who no longer drive a car, the finishing touch to the park would be a shuttle service...to and from tV. I like to think big. LOL>

Excellent idea PLUS..............In it should be a 365 day a year lap pool for those everyday swimmers too.

As a Canadian, I would like to add my vote to a Tim Hortons coffee shop. I would love to introduce my new American friends to another choice for excellent coffee. I am confident that Tim Hortons would thrive in The Villages.
Nothing personal but Canadians have already taken over too much of American business and culture. Yes, I'm talking about you, Michael J. Fox.

....IMHO....We NEED to care about each other...be thankful for "what we have".... no matter what we have .......Help those "less fortunate" around us.......AND..... always remember the coffee INSIDE the cup is what is important...It does NOT matter how pretty or how expensive the cup may be ......or even if the cup is worn and not so pretty.....What is INSIDE the cup is what really matters.....that is how I think of our families and friends.

Whenever I shop at the Christmas tree shop here in Freehold and they ask for a zip code, I always give my Villages zip. Supposedly they keep track of the zip codes to see where a new store might be needed. So if you go to a store that you'd like to see in TV and they ask for a zip, give them your TV zip.

We need-
1. Krispy Kreme
2. a good pizza place that delivers
3. Costco
4. Chick Fil-A on 466A or 441. My wife said she saw Krispy Kreme donuts available in Publix/Colony while there today.
2. We have found and had pizza delivered from Snappy Tomato, Dominos and Papa Johns. None were bad but I'd say that my favorite was Snappy Tomato. Will any of them satisfy you? I don't know, but I do know that most of us feel that our hometown outside TV has the best pizza available. So if you can't have your favorite restaurant back where you came from ship pizza to you prepared for cooking, then try the three mentioned. Now if we could only get good Chinese delivery!
3. Costco sounds good!
4. Have not yet had Chick Fill A.

I'm willing to bet this has probably been brought up before....... I just can't seem to find the question/suggestion/answer on the Forum via a Search.
The Villages phone book is very informative, for sure. I especially like the "Hometown" information under each individual listing.
Although this is handy, I'm wondering if there does exist a directory or public accessible database that is sorted (prioritized) by the Hometown so that I can look up a city and see all the residents of The Villages who are from there.
The way it is now, I'll have to scan individually all 528 pages, with an average of 75 listings per page.
Just a thought......
BTW - For example, I'd be interested in finding anyone from Cape May, NJ; Kettering, OH; or Woodstock, VT.

I agree that the Christmas Tree Shop would be great. We also need a quality craft, needlework store that carries needlepoint, cross stitch, scrapbooking etc. Not a Michaels or Joanns, but somewhere you could get Villages exclusive designs etc!
All these visiting ladies (and some men) would love a villages themed cross stitch.needlepoint kit to take home.

When I am rushing to the golf course trying to beat my tee time, I would love some type of drive through for coffee and breakfast sandwich that I can get fast and eat in my cart. at most places I always have to park, go in, and then wait to get what I want.
Make it a place for golf cart only drive thru and a walk up window for others. We have a place in Destin on the golf courses that work out perfectly for those in the resort. It is always busy.
Secondly, how about an online reservation system for all the Villages restaurants? You go to the pages, scroll to the place you want to eat and see if you can get a time you want. Ideally, the place would have an updated waiting time or open times showing online. You have to reserve it with a credit card. This would save the constant phone calls in during the snowbird months and I am sure it would help the restaurants too.
As much as we all love to eat out it would take some of the frustration out of the dining experience.

Need a Dairy Queen. The frozen yogurt places are fine and have their place but for us NE folks who miss DQ, the closest is about 15 miles away - in a truck stop. Also need a discount place like Ocean State Job Lots or Building 19 - salvage stores, basically- for some real bargains. Xmas Tree Shoppe would be wonderful, too - great bargains and something for everyone. For Fitness Centers, Planet Fitness is a great fit for T.V. - inexpensive, state of the art equipment and all for less than $20/month.
There used to be two DQ here, one on 441 and one on 466, but both went under. Lack of customers, I guess. I think the one on 466 still lies vacant.

Yeah, a lack of customers, all right. Portion sizes were not consistent. There was a big turnover of help. It seemed that they (mostly kids) were poorly trained as to how to make a decent blizzard. One thing I know after living here for so long is that you can not mess with Villagers when it comes to food. Many a restaurant has gone out of business because management thought they could fool us by cutting back on quality and serving sizes. The fact that TWO Dairy Queens both bit the dust is still hard for me to fathom. I love DQ and I wish we had one here. But, I will tell anyone who is thinking of trying it again, "If I order a blizzard I would like the danged cup full, not 2/3 or 3/4 full. Raising your prices and then cutting back on portions just doesn't work for me."

This seems like it would be a terrific business to start. I did'nt see much golf cart accessories in the cart stores and being able to go to a place and just pick out some different cool lights or mirrors would be hugely popular. Kinda like a Harley store for golf carts.:coolsmiley:

-There are no Big/Tall stores for men nearby. There is only one in Ocala.
-I miss the Coney Island restaurants that are all over the Metro Detroit area. Always ate there about once a week. Nothing comparable around here.
-There are no dance wear stores here. Many dance troops around The Villages, but everyone has to order their shoes and tights on line because there is no where to buy it here. Many dance wear stores also sell costumes, which would work well with the clown college. Also need to sell stage makeup, which works with the many theatre groups.
-Music stores are non-existant here, and there are so many musical groups here. Someplace that could repair instruments, sell pianos, and have a department for sheet music.
-There is no personalization store here. You know the ones where you can get glassware engraved, or monograms put on towels. That kind of place.
This is just a short list of all the kinds of places that I have wanted and that are not here. Many of the other places I have missed are chains, and wouldn't help you if I listed them. Pleeeeease, open one of these!!!!!!
Just to let you know...National Coney Island will send you all the 'fixins'....my sister-in-law sent them to my stepson in Georgia for Christmas.

In the suburbs of Baltimore within ten minutes of driving I could have three times the choices of restaurants, malls and stores to shop than we do here. The good part is, it probably saves me a lot of money. I do miss 'Famous Daves', for $6.99 lunch I would get six BBQ wings, corn on the cob, baked beans and a roll. Also a nice place was 'Buffalo Wild Wings' Sports Bar, not so much for the food but for so many TV's and the atmosphere, especially since it was usually filled with Ravens fans. I also miss Maryland steamed crabs and crab cakes. We have found good crab meat at Sam's Club and my wife can make outstanding crab cakes.

As the earlier poster wrote, it's out in the little strip center in front of Publix at Colony Shopping Center. My wife goes there all the time. Books are 1/2 price of the cover price and you get 1/4 of the cover price when you sell back.

The biggest issue with owning property in TV is no consolidated services. I hire someone to mow my lawn (they don't fertilize), someone else for termites, another to trim shrubs, someone else to weed, another for pool service, and someone else to fertilize the lawn, but they don't do shrubs, so another for that. Need someone else for the sprinkler system and another for home watch, and another for mulch. TOO MANY DIFFERENT PROVIDERS. Now I know that I will never find one to do it all, but if I could get it down to just 3 I would be happy. Everyone wants to do just one thing. If a service consolidated all outside maintenance they would put everyone else out of business. Even if they only did most of it and subbed the rest to someone else.
But they would have to mow the lawn, fertilize the lawn, weed the beds, trim the shrubs, fertilize the shrubs, spray the shrubs and lawn for bugs, mulch the beds, inspect the home while they are there, and fix and repair the sprinkler systems. Then just sub termite protection to someone and your done.
Call Stellar. They do all those things and more.

Any help would be great, i have seen a few shops to rent so would not be hard to get things in motion.

Hi, I think a really good Doggie Daycare. The best one I've seen is Pet Paradise, Jacksonville, FL. It has little rooms for the dogs, with TV's and then a doggied door out to a grassy area that was fenced. The Doggie Play area had a pool and a big area to run around. I'm from MA, and we had one that would come and pick up your dogs. They had a little school bus. It was so cute. For some people, the dogs are like their children, so they'll pay for the best. I would.

I would love a cafe/pastry shop where you could sit down and have great coffee/teas and a wide selection of desserts. A place where you could relax and listen to great music. Nothing against Starbucks, Barnies or Dunkin Donuts, but a place with a European touch would be fantastic. So often after dinner my husband and I would love to go out for a treat, but there is really no place special to visit.
:agree:
My husband and I were just talking about that. It would be so nice to have a hometown style coffee shop to go to on our early morning walks!

I'm from MA, and we had one that would come and pick up your dogs. They had a little school bus. It was so cute. For some people, the dogs are like their children, so they'll pay for the best. I would.
Very good suggestion!

I agree with the "home town" coffee shop. At home, my friends and I use it walk to the local coffee shop after exercise class every Tue and Thur. It was a local hang out for coffee drinkers, it was like "Cheers."

I did see the small gym that's in the Rec Center, but for the money that isn't worth it. I googled, but there's nothing around that fits.

Oh man would I LOVE a White Castle!
However, they are only in 11 states.
I contacted them about the possibility of a franchise in So. Fl.
First of all they will not franchise! Secondly they will not expand due (I believe) to distribution centers they have and are not willing to set up anymore.
First - and I mean FIRST thing I do when I arrive on LI is have my son stop at a WC before we get to his house - and he knows it! LOL

I did see the small gym that's in the Rec Center, but for the money that isn't worth it. I googled, but there's nothing around that fits.
I spent a month in The Villages last October in Mallory and enjoyed the experience in many ways. Yet, the lack of a decent nearby fitness center was a serious drawback for me. I went to the one in Colony Cottage Recreational Center because it was the most convenient although after checking around the rec center exercise rooms felt all about the same to me except for the outfit in Spanish Springs. There was no shower or locker room adjacent the single exercise room. Although the Center's pool had showers its lockers were just little boxes so immediately after my workouts I drove in my rental car to my rental house to shower all sweaty but with a fresh T shirt on. I would not want to have to do that several times a week in my own car! The facilities were like those in a hotel. Some aerobic devices, a few weight machines as well as some basic weights (50 lb max dumbells) and a couple of benches all in one relatively small room. It got crowded at times although it was not yet snowbird season and 20 minute time limits on aerobic devices are imposed by the staff when people are waiting. Of course, 20 minutes is just a decent warm up period. It was expensive, too, I think $8/visit whereas I pay $15/mo. at a 24 Fitness near me now.
Perhaps some entrepreneur will build a nice fitness facility nearby. With 100,000+ people in the general area it could be successful. It would certainly help in advancing the cause of becoming "Florida's healthiest hometown".

Not those miles for anyone I know. It all depends where you are in the Villages. The Villages are hugh. You can easily travel 16 miles in the villages. A couple I know who goes to the Leesburg spend over an hour one way. 10 miles when you go around round abouts at a low speed and have many stop lights, traffic etc. outside the Villages can take a long time. They have given up all the luncheons, clubs etc because it takes most of their day. They won't rejoin because it is ruining their schedule to do golf, different clubs etc.

We go to Ocala about twice month for something to do, usually stop at the Paddock Mall but only after I get my Krystal Hamburers (that's my one vice). Anyway, I stop at Dick's Sporting Goods about once a month and there is an Ulta store in the same center. There is also a Dillards, so while I go to Dick's my wife goes to Dillards and Ulta. If you exit I-75 at the first Ocala exit, it's Route 200 (College Blvd.) Paddock Mall is to your right about a mile, but instead turn left and go about half a mile and on the left you'll pass a Kohl's and then you'll see a Dick's Sporting Goods set back about 100 yards. Go a couple of hundred yards further to the red light and then make your left turn into the shopping center, Dillards will be on the right and Barnes & Nobles on the left, Ulta is just past that.
On the way back from Ocala, about ten miles or half way to TV, you'll see an exit 341, you'll see billboards for a Golf Outlet and Golf Shoe store, there is also a McDonalds. At that exit is a Pilot Gas station, in the station there is a Wendy's and a Dairy Queen. I always stop there and get a chocolate dip vanilla cone.
We usually get on I-75 at Wildwood, which takes about ten minutes from Tamarind Grove, and then it's about a 30 minute drive to Ocala.

We need a `Heavenly Ham` Franchise I think there is only one in all of Florida and thats to far away, and with over 75,000 people in the `bubble` I think it would work.

Our landscaper is P-T-L Pests, Termites, Landscaping. And they do it all except check the sprinklers as they are inside If interested email me at jeg1098@gmail.com. We have a place in Fernandina and have been pleased with their service. Each time they do anything we get a written report of what has been done.

Not sure if Starbucks would allow it but I think most Canadians would love to see a Tim Hortons. As well as great coffee, bagels, muffins and donuts they have really good soups and sandwiches.
OMG, I miss Tim Hortons! I loved their coffee. Also, Tim was a great NHL player on the Sabres. Miss him.

All of these personal wishes for a franchise to open up here are pretty much pie in the sky notions. The franchisee takes a big chance on whether or not enough people will patronize his store to make a profit - after the overhead of rent, tax, franchise fee, etc. Look at the CiCi's Pizza guy. He couldn't do it and then could not open up his own place due to his non-compete clause.
We have some pretty great places right now. Cody's Roadhouse, RJ Gators, Thai Ruby, the Lopez Club, Glenview Club - utilize them!

How about a good sandwich shop? There are all kinds of restaurants and a subway but not a good deli sandwich shop. That's what we see as missing. There is also not a good meat market. You can purchase all kinds of packaged meats at the grocery stores around but haven't seen a meat market within golf cart range where you can get your steaks sliced to your likeness, order hamburg packaged your way, marinated chicken breasts, etc.

Part of the problem here is the way the leases are written. Toscani's Pizza is a good example. They would love to expand their deli business, and I'll bet they would do very well, but their lease says they cannot sell deli meats and cheeses. Publix forced the developer to write out any competition. I'd rather have the deli, and lose publix.

But Mulligan, isn't Toojays a deli? I love their stuff. I am not from the east coast so I guess I don't really know what a deli is supposed to offer.
And are you sure about this lease business and the developer being forced by Publix? There are SO MANY RUMORS that float around that are unfounded. I love Publix and it doesn't look to me like they'd have to have any contingincies to be successful. Great bakery. Wonderful bakery.
And getting back to what The Villages needs...More Bingo nights with ice cream sundaes for our Helene....and me too. I also want Home Goods and Chipotle. YUM.

1) Costco
2) A real brick-oven pizza place, run by real Italians
3) Trader Joes
4) A cable/internet/phone service company that uses the latest technology, and is cheap and reliable
5) Dicks sporting goods (or similar)
6) Quiet gas golf carts that don't emit fumes in the tunnels (and don't release gas vapors in your garage).
7) A final resolution to the IRS issue
8) House designs that have only 1 dining area (who needs 2?)

I haven't read all the posts about this subject but if it hasn't been mentioned , I would like to see a golf cart only gas station IN all the town squares areas. Then you wouldn't have to drive to the main highways to get gas. A good place would be in the back part of Sweetbay's parking lot. You could get your groceries and gas in one trip.

I love this idea! Right now we do the gas can thing. This would be so much easier.

I also like a good deli where they make breakfast sandwiches, have decent coffee and salads. It would be great in Colony, love Twojays, but there is nowhere in Colony for breakfast.
How about a real fish market, maybe where almost everything isn't farm raised?

But, people open a business to earn a profit. I wonder how much profit would be generated by gas golf carts each buying 4 gallons of gas every three weeks? My guess is that everyone would continue to buy their gas at one of "the regular" stations rather than buy at the "golf cart only" station - for $9.95 per gallon.

I was in the restaurant business years ago. (Yes, a pizza shop!)
That is called a non-compete lease, and it is VERY common in retail spaces.
If you had a pizza shop in a strip center, would you like another one opening next to you in the same strip? Or the tuxedo shop allowed to make pizza?
Sometimes these leases "choke" the strip center themselves, because a big "anchor" will want to be allowed to sell everything (Walmart?) thus killing its "neighbors".

How about a meat market? Is there one around here? I used one back home and was way better than the grocery stores. I would buy fish, steaks and chicken there all the time. They always had great stew beef and fish all cut up for chowders.
