I must be confused, but don't property taxes pay for sidewalk and street repairs from sinkholes? Why would the property owners have to pay increased maintenance fees to cover pubic property?

In Marion County part of TV, the neighborhood road maintenance is the responsibility of CDD4 not the County. North end of Buena Vista is maintained by Marion but all other streets are essentially property owners via their CDD maintenance. I don’t know about sidewalks but it could be the same principle. Sinkholes in Calumet Grove are in Marion County.

There is another article at the online news today titled
CDDS approve budget hikes of 12-15 percent. In the article they quote supervisors from CDD 2 and 3 saying rate increases are needed for road work (mill and overlay) and other expenses. CDD 2 and 3 are not in Marion County.

Millwork and overlay is for the Villa roads as the districts own all the Villa roadway, the rest of the streets are owned by the County.

Yes but it appears they are raising the assessment on all homes in these districts.

It doesn't matter, all residents are responsible for the costs of all maintenance in their district, we don't just pay for the specific budget items that we use, we don't get to pick an choose what we pay for, we get to pay for it all. Villa communities don't have any cul-de-sacs with greenery and irrigation that needs to be maintained but their maintenance assessments include those costs also. Both are district assets that need to be maintained. You may not own a golf cart but a portion of the budget goes to maintaining the MMP. What if you have two golf carts? You don't get charged double for that portion of the budget do you?

Thanks for clearing that up for me, too.

Not debating you, just pointing out that all CDDs have roads which need maintenance, and all residents in that district get assessed.

Seem's like a lot of $$ Money $$. I wonder how many bids were taken to come to the $560,000 number. Does it even work that way in the south? I predict a better outcome than the original estimate.

We feel so bad for the people affected.

Only the villa roads are the responsibility of the district. Other, public roads are not.
