I don't know what you mean by "decent size" but the long and short of it is NO.

I agree. I paid $30000 with birdcage when I had the house built 14 years ago.

My next door neighbor received a quote last month for a 18 x 36 pool with birdcage, no wall from T&D. He told me it was 6 figures.

Yes but like a car, options could cost as much as the basic pool, and you probably won't want a basic pool By options I mean type and size of decking, edging, tile work, lighting, heating....

We had a 12 x22 pool, bird cage and solar heat put in 4 years ago for approx 45K. That did not include the landscaping, bird cage furniture etc.

We had one up north and the maintenance and cost to keep it crystal clean during heat waves was high. Can't imagine what it would be down here with the high temps that start in late May until October. Besides there's a pool every few blocks here and if you get pool priority the country club pools are hardly used.

T&D cleans our pool, filter, checks the water and adds chemicals as needed for $112 a month. Worth every penny. We us our pool daily and most evenings a dip before bed.

OP, your looking north of 60k for a pool at today’s prices. It can go up considerably from there. Many of us “have been there and done that” but to each his own. As others have mentioned, a pool not far away that you don’t have to care for is another factor and many like the socializing at the pools.

Here they’re called neighborhood pools, sports pools, family pools, sounds nice. In actuality their public pools, what has happened time and time again they are found unhealthful by the county inspectors.

I guess I'll start by saying if you afford a pool and it's maintenance don't put one in. With that said. If you do choose to add a pool go with T&D for Quality and support, not timely with headaches. They will start your pool and be there everyday until it is completed. It will cost around $60.000.00. It will be a pool complete with most everything, including the cage, electronics, heater, sprinkler system, sod landscaping and warranties. When I said not timely, you'll have to wait your turn which could be a while. You could get a pool installed sooner and for less in a earlier time but they will do it because they have no customers. In the long run you will be less stressed, happier and quite satisfied and enjoy your new pool with T&D and that's what life at this stage is all about. Happy swimming.
P.S. You can always find another home in The Villages that already has a pool that are listed at all different prices.

When you come across said tree and it is lying on the ground you have but 2 possibilities. The tree was cut down (but shows no saw marks) or the tree "fell" down due to age, storm or whatever! Either way it's down and a loss! The real question should be, "did it make a sound" ?

The real question should be, "did it make a sound" ?Recognizing your valid points, the quick and easy answer is...yes, it made a sound.
Whether or not someone actually 'hears' it, sound waves exist as variations of pressure in a medium...such as air.
Think of it this way, if a deaf person watches a tree fall over, but can't hear it...did it make a sound?
Although, you're point has been a philosophical question... that's been around a long time.
If a tree falls in a forest - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/If_a_tree_falls_in_a_forest)
I know, I know, I can sometimes be a 'buzz-kill'...on intended lighthearted subjects :D
Sorry. :o
As to the post in question, I don't think the lack of seeing people in pools at any one point in time...is indicative of whether they are being used.

A vinyl pool maybe, concrete no. I know of no vinyl pools in
TV although I’ve been told they are built in Florida.
In 1978 and 1981 I built my own homes in Pensacola, Florida. That's been quite a while ago, but I just found on zillow the home I built in '78. Here's a photo of the back yard, that's a 16 x 32 vinyl pool that I paid $4995 total. It looks like it's still going strong after 40 years. The only negative to a vinyl is the liner will need replacing about every ten years. There are a lot of positives, for example when you walk in the pool, your feet are not on a rough surface but the smooth vinyl and below the vinyl the bottom is formed with vermiculite, which is a soft concrete and forms to the liner and is soft. The sides are 4 x 4' panels that are connected together and lined with a thin sheet of foam rubber. So if you knees bump the sides, they are hitting vinyl backed by foam.
https://photos.zillowstatic.com/p_f/ISu0c2caqr0opl0000000000.jpg
The fellow who built this pool was named Don Phillips and he ran an ad in TV Tab which I saw and was his second pool he built. A friend from work got his first pool. I sold the home two years later and next time built a Don Phillips Pool that was 18 x 36 pool with a diving board, steps and underwater light and extra decking, total cost $7700. It sounds cheap but Don Phillips business was going crazy. He had 3 crews working fulltime, in the two years between pools, my second pool was his 200th pool. Within three years Don bought a professional fishing boat with tower and chairs and was on the local news in all the fishing tournaments.
Why they don't build vinyl pools in this area, I don't understand. They are about 1/3 the cost, nicer, easier to keep regulated since the water is not up again concrete or gunite, but vinyl. So keeping the ph levels balanced was a breeze. I maintained my own pools, took about 5 minutes a day. You get an automatic cholorinator, you can buy the cartridges at Walmart and they last three weeks, that handles the chlorine. We didn't have birdcages in the panhandle, so I ran the net across the top and picked up any loose leaves or pine needles, and checked the skimmers for any debris. You can buy a pool sweep or creepy crawler and lt will keep the walls and floors clean if you like, but I didn't need it.
BTW, the home was a 4 BR 3 BA, 2 car garage, stick built with a 400 sf lanai and pool and I paid $7500 for the lot in a new subdivision that featured the parade of homes the first year. I spent $52,000 total to build the home with lot and pool and fence. Sold it to a doctor for $80,000 two years later. In Florida if you live in a home more than a year, you don't need a contractor's license. I was an air traffic controller and about 15 of us at Pensacola built our own homes, and I built two with my next one was even bigger. I saw on zillow the home sold two years ago for $220K. It's amazing to see how things changed in 40 years. I had the home stained with dark brown and the front was landscaped with tropical papas grass and plants, totally different look then now.

We recently had T&D build us a beautiful 12x24 concrete pool with waterfalls, a retractable cover built into the deck, a huge birdcage, and both solar heat and an electric heat pump. It cost us $62K turnkey with sod replacement when done. They took care of everything including all permits and inspections. It made quit the mess during the constructions but when it was done everything looked great. We are very happy with the final product, have no regrets, and look forward to many years of enjoyment. I still use the sports pools to swim laps but love swimming in our private oasis in the back yard, mostly at night with the underwater LED lights. Since we built the pool we rarely turn on the TV anymore. It's definitely way cheaper and easier to maintain than a boat, or even an expensive luxury car.

OP needs to price out a deep end pool with waterfall spa, pool bath with closet, and a large enough cage enclosure allowing for multi tier seating. Then work from there to reach a price point.

We have lived in The Villages for 18 years. We've built 3 pools with 3 different companies. They all were beautiful and all had their own different stress levels. No matter who builds your pool you will NOT see contractors working at your home every day. It will take months to complete and it will cost you over $40K. T&D will most likely be the most expensive but they will do an excellent job. You will still have to wait a long time for them. We waited 3 months just to get an estimate from them. We used Splash Time from Ocala for our most recent and they did a great job. There is nothing like the privacy of your own pool.

Why spend money on a pool when you already have many pools to use. The Villages provides wonderful neighborhood pools and the
maintenance is already paid for in your amenity fee. If you want more choices, obtain a pool membership for the country clubs, it is $275 for a family membership and your guests can also use the c.c. pools when visiting. PLUS, you meet a lot of nice people at the community pools.

We love our pool. Use it daily and many evenings after dark with the poll lights on. The privacy and convenience can not be beat. Worth every dollar we spend/spent. Fiesta from Ocala put in our poll. We were swimming in less then 6 weeks from the day they started.

Your looking at around 48,,000 for a pool with salt water system a minor upgrade for much much lower maintenance. With T&D pools the best in town in my opinion and would not go with anyone else does take a bit longer to get them out 2 to 3 months to come out and worth the wait and they actually do stand by their product. 4 years ago my pool in TV was around 30,000 no bird cage, 4 years later 48,000 quote to have another pool installed at a rental of mine here in the villages. Prices have went up a bit. I have had both salt water( about a 3,000 upgrade)and chlorine pools(never again)

We love our pool. If you stay here through the summers, to us it is a "must have". The community pools are OK, but our adult community pool is difficult to find a chair at in the afternoons. We can swim in our own anytime day or night that we like. Plus the lights & waterfall are beautiful to sit at in the evening whether we swim or not. Additionally, we know ours is clean. We do our own for less than $20/month in chemicals. Heating runs about $100/mo in the winter. We heat all winter (paid $5,000 for the heater unit).

I have to say, when we lived near Boston (Canton) we installed a pool. Thoughts:
1. LOVED, LOVED being able to walk out to the pool, drop trou, jump in and relax with a cocktail—without family, of course. Actually, the yard had great privacy. Usually the trou was left in the house.
2. Bob’s family lived nearby and we loved seeing their kids grow up for some 13 years. (Moved to Provincetown.). Kids and pools is a given. And so are two adults AT ALL TIMES, to keep watch.
3. HATED, HATED constantly testing for chemical levels, pH, clarifier, backwashing the filter, ugh! And it was a huge chore to keep it “crystal clean,” as it should be.
4. Up north, opening and closing was a royal pain. Might not apply here if you’re year-round, but if you flee north in summer, you might have to/want to cover it.
5.we got an estimate from T&D to install in our courtyard villa. Price was north of $60,000.
6. We have pools everywhere here. The priority country club pools are worth the fee. Plus they usually have a restaurant and bar attached.
And now, I leave the decision to you. Please let us know what you decide.

Good information to share another opinion. Our courtyard villa pool has been terrific, love that we can go out the slider and into the pool anytime, or simply have coffee on the lanai and watch the sunrise. Husband does not have an issue with the chemicals, he is retired and has the time to maintain, states it does not involve that much. Cost is minimal to the electric bill and pool maintenance, we are pleasantly surprised. Fiesta did a super job installing our 25' pool and bird cage; for us worth every cent. No regrets.

If you're looking to save some money and thinking outside the box, as I mentioned back on post #25 that a vinyl pool has many advantages and can be much cheaper. Before deciding on T&D or All Seasons or an Ocala company, check out some Orlando dealers. Pacific Pools of Orlando has very good feedback and builds vinyl pools, here's their website. Orlando Florida Vinyl Liner Swimming Pool Builder - Best FL Swimming Pools Contractor (https://www.pacificpoolsorlando.com/orlando_florida_best_swimming_pool_contractors_bui lders_fl_vinyl_liner_pools.html)
If you are wondering if a vinyl pool will last as long as a gunite or concrete pool, here is a recent photo of a vinyl pool that I had built in Pensacola in 1978. The home just sold on Zillow and I had looked up the address and found the photos. This pool was only $5,000 in 1978, that makes it 40 years old.

We have a vinyl pool up north.
Testing for Chlorine, PH. Approx 1 minute
Backwashing....adding DE...two to four minutes
Cleaning and vacuuming Zero minutes ..turn on the Polaris cleaner and you are done.
Refill auto chlorine feeder once a week....two minutes.
Opening and closing...Pool Company Total cost about $600 a year.
Maintaining an Inground pool is the simplest of all chores. Get educated and DIY the basics. If you maintain Chlorine and PH is all I did for 35 years. Pool stores will try to sell you a lot of unnecessary chemicals. Have pools for 35 years. Grandkids love it. So do we.
I fail to understand why folks say maintaining a pool in a pain when it is just the opposite if you educate yourself and have the proper equipment.
A pool is the only place where you can tell your grandkids to stay in a space 16 by 40 feet. And they do.

Backwashing was a matter of turning the control knob to backwash and starting the filter. Two minutes at most. What is to HATE about that ? Most other maintenance is no more than 5 minutes a day. Takes me longer to maintain my body, take my shower than to “maintain” my pool. Vacuuming is on auto pilot with the Polaris. It is the simplest of things I do on a daily basis. And I am outside collecting my Vitamin D.
First mistake, inviting 25 people
Second mistake inviting 25 people.
Now waiting on and cleaning up after 25 people every weekend is something I really HATE. So I don’t do it. If I had to do that I would fill my pool with concrete.

Backwashing was a matter of turning the control knob to backwash and starting the filter. Two minutes at most. What is to HATE about that ? Most other maintenance is no more than 5 minutes a day. Takes me longer to take my shower than to “maintain” my pool. Vacuuming is on auto pilot with the Polaris. It is the simplest of things I do on a daily basis. And I am outside collecting my Vitamin D.
Jack, I know how to do all that stuff very well. I didn’t like doing it (especially with mosquitoes). I had the Polaris. I didn’t like doing it... every day.
I appreciate your point of view. My last comment on this.

No regrets.
Thanks, Deb. Had it already been installed, and with the reasonable maintenance fee, it might have been a different story. We just LOVE our neighborhood and the house. So not installing at $60k.

Please stop stating the facts, it’s infuriating.
An additional minute and a half for the Cl & Ph, getting up and down takes time.

Cleaning and maintaining my body takes more time than cleaning and maintaining my pool.
Washing my back is harder than backwashing my pool. :a20:

Recognizing your valid points, the quick and easy answer is...yes, it made a sound.
Whether or not someone actually 'hears' it, sound waves exist as variations of pressure in a medium...such as air.
Think of it this way, if a deaf person watches a tree fall over, but can't hear it...did it make a sound?
Although, you're point has been a philosophical question... that's been around a long time.

Unfortunately I can't find my reading glasses so I don't know if you opined.

Very interesting!

Can you get a decent size pool for $25,000? What did you pay and can you post the details
Ask Fiesta Pools for a quote, their prices are very reasonable.
At the very least, they would tell you what could be done within your budget

This year February was warm and we were able to use the pool. We put the solar cover on end of November. Dec is fine and part of January. If we have a cold Jan and cold Feb. We wait until March to use the pool.

I have a question. We are considering moving to TV. I love to swim but do not golf. I thought that all Villagers could go to all country clubs and use facilities such as pools. What is pool priority at the country clubs and is there a cost? If you don't have it does that mean you can't swim in country club pools?

You can eat at the restaurants but not use the golf course pools unless you pay for a priority pool membership. The only other facilities are golf practice areas

They most likely have replaced the liner since it was first built. We had a vinyl pool and the liner does need to be replaced depending on your chemical usage every 6 to 12 years.

There are over 100 pools that are included with your monthly maintenance fee of $155, including Sports pools at all Regional Rec Centers, perfect for active swimmers, we also have resident pools and family pools. Country Club pools do have a fee. Something for everyone.

You’ll go to the pool nearest your home, most do.
