I laughed out loud when I read the headline above the fold...in the C section of today's paper.

For those that missed it, it says..."Why Does Our Water Taste So Great?"

Recognizing that 'taste' (in anything) is highly subjective, it got me to thinking of how many people agree with this (IMHO)...'propaganda piece.'

Soooo, here's a quick poll on your own personal opinion of the tap water...here in TV.

I also recognize that maybe the newer parts of TV have a different source and the water south of 466A (and Fenney area)...might be better than the places I've rented and now own north of 466A.

In addition, a person's opinion will obviously be based on a comparison...with the water where they lived previously.

This poll is based solely on taste and smell and NOT an indication of whether the water is unhealthy, which for the record...it obviously is not. :ho:

Awful is the best word to describe the unfiltered water north of Rte. 44. One look at the pre-filter " filter " when we change it every six months would convince most their drinking water is spiked with a heavy dose of mud. Chlorine and mud simply does not taste very good.

Water here (just North of 466A) was like drinking swimming pool water. Pure chlorine taste and smell. My wife insisted on a whole house filter because she said the chlorine was destroying her hair. The filter did wonders. Had water tested after the install and it was well above "standards." It was so pure we had to add bleach tablets to the looooo. Yes, I know what bleach does (other than disinfect) so we don't need THAT discussion again. :) SO I rate & voted water "F" here.

Having come from an area where the water was as good as it gets I found the water here to be somewhat less than OK. But with a couple of filters on the way in and a 40 dollar refrigerator filter before drinking I can't complain.

My husband and I had a good laugh about it this morning. We have a whole house filter and a refrigerator filter and it’s perfectly drinkable now, but not nearly as good as the well water we drank in Maine.

In all honesty though, you have to give creative credit...to whomever came up with the headline. :ho:

It doesn't take much for me to imagine, that had they been working back in the day, they could have headlined something along the lines of..."Unsinkable cruise liner Titanic, scrapes iceberg." :D

We put in a whole house filtration system and love it.

At a friend’s house, ice melts and leaves visible particulate in the bottom of the glass.

I voted "pretty bad" since there wasn't a softer option like...........has some taste and odor.

But so do I first thing in the morning.

My intention was that the 'OK' option...would cover that.

We have lived in four different Villages in TV. Two north of 466A and two south of 466A. No problem with the smell or taste of the water.

Our dog wouldn't even drink the water till we had a whole-house filtration system installed. It smelled and tasted horrible. Just north of 466A. I voted Yuk.

Have always used Public Tap water in
Baltimore
Gaithersburg, Md
Warrenton Va
Bel Air, Md
Hagerstown Md
2 areas in Tv

Have never needed add on filters or conditioners and drink the "Public Water" exclusively. Wife and I are both 79 and generally healthy for our age. What have we been missing? --other than unnecessary costs ?

During the times I have spent on Ocracoke Island, NC I have drunk the tap water which is salty. The locals drink it and many are pretty elderly yet spry so what the heck!

The water that comes from the taps here, tastes and smells like the water mains are connected to the local pool filtration system. Awful stuff.

What brand/type water filter do you use?
Salt/potassium or other method. Significant change in quality taste and smell? Any change in water pressure?

We/I checked for a review of the water quality and it is listed as good in the villages. What does good mean? I expect it means better than some other places.

New York, where we are from, has some of the finest water in the world due to the water source in the Catskill mountains.
Oh and while we paid about twice as much for electricity, our cost for water was far less.

We left NY to escape the far higher cost of living far higher TAXES. SNOW? I miss a walk down the beach after a snow with no one else there.

We use this https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/water-filtration-systems-311/nova-water-filtrations-183303/ and it made a 1000x difference. Our "best water in FL" smelled and tasted like a swimming pool before the filter now we don't even use filters in our refrig. Absolutely no change in pressure.

I think you’re exaggerating a bit. Nonetheless, water companies are required to report many monthly sample tests. I worked for a water company. Exceeding thresholds was a serious issue requiring IMMEDIATE abatement procedures.

That being said, I can’t get my head around the tragedy of Flint.

It never should have taken so long...

Though unpleasant, that’s evidently from the ponds. I hope everyone knows we don’t drink that. Do you wear the mask for safety reasons? What sort of mask, if I may?

I invite anyone to run with me, I start around 3 or 4am. Have been running TV since 2010. The smell from sprinklers is overwhelming. I didn’t say anyone drinks it, I said it smells and with many running sprinklers at the same time the smell is powerful.

I use a disposable over the ear mask, keeps out pollen, a occasional bug, regulates the cold intake, and bonus helps with the smell from the sprinklers. I am confused how how a mask would be for safety reason. It does not have reflective properties.

I run about 5 plus miles, rain or shine, so if you want to join and tell me the water does not smell let me know.
But then again I have a heighten sense of smell. If you don’t keep up I wait for no one. Have a 3 day 60miles coming up this summer so just doing tune up short runs until July then start pushing to 20 miles.

He's not exaggerating. First thing my wife said when we moved in here in 2/1/17 when she took her first shower was "it smells like a swimming pool."

Every area seems to be different. Our home was like a swimming pool. Filter cleared it 100%.

We call the irrigation water "poo water". If we get sprayed we jump in the shower asap. I'd like to know how safe it is if accidentally gets inhaled or sprayed in your eyes or on a wound.

Interesting explanation of irrigation water. It seems if you are north of 466 it's "safe" south of 466 who knows!

If you have a good whole house filter, there is no need for a refrigerator filter-we haven't changed ours in 7 years--just keep pressing the filter reset button--ice cubes are crystal clear as well as water
