We had a late start yesterday & could not get a seat @ one of hour favorite places (the bar), wife said-lets give the Light House a shot--ordered 2 drinks very skimpy @ $9--ea. double what we would pay @ Arnold Palmer or the Cane--looked @ the menu-I wanted to split-but the Admiral said lets give it a try
Spent $90.00 including tip--they'll never see us again
its gotta be Arnold, the Cane & Bonefish for us if we still want to eat in TV

But but you’re paying for the ocean view.

We never pay for an ocean view ,we lived and cruised on our own motor yacht-did 30k miles on the waterways over six years--also we always eat at the bar-this way we get a chance to chat with others-IMHO-view is for people who have never seen much in their life before moving here
NC mountains view, Lake Louise View , Banff View, Canadian Rockies View, Great lakes View, Haliakula @ sunrise view , Pacific Hwy view, too much to list, we did all our traveling while we were young enough to really enjoy --TV-uh as far as view is concerned

Try St.John Seafood ! We have also stop going to lighthouse.Dont mind paying for the view when the food is good but we gave it 3 try’s and each time came out with the same conclusion. They are staying in business because of that view, not the food and service.

Just looked @ St. Johns menu--much better choices--the twin lobster tails I had were tasteless, the Admirals scallops & shrimps were a joke--the scallops were just about the size of a quarter and the jumbo shrimp were BS-probably 30/lb--4 ea--WOW
total ripoff--for people who know real seafood

I have heard from a few prior dedicated diner's at The Lighthouse that they have given it up. The menu is no longer as good, the food is no longer good and the prices are bad. They have all refused to go back. We use to go there a lot but based on this feed back will no longer go.:rant-rave:

Like a few others on this site, we have been recently disappointed by The Lighthouse. We first ate there about 3 years ago and enjoyed it. The last couple of times has been so-so food and higher prices. They took draft beer off the menu a few months ago.

New menu at the Lighthouse is terrible. They no longer have draft beers, carafes or 1/2 carafes of wine, no onion rings, no swordfish and the lobster roll for $25 is skimpy when you can get a better one at lunchtime at Glenview on Fridays for $14.99. Lots of changes at The Lighthouse but not for the better.

They must be having $ problems--don't expect them to be around much longer-when Hemingways was having $ problems--their menu when downhill & they sold out
Willing to bet the Lighthouse will change hands in the near future

That's disappointing to hear. We tried to go there a few days ago, but the dining room was full and it was too hot to sit in the sun. I commented that if they installed sun shades, they would have more comfortable seating.
Reducing the quality/quantity of food is the kiss of death.

Not even considering the food, they lost me when they got rid of the draft beer.

The bar tender said they were losing $ on draft beer--I know that's BS-draft beer is just about the biggest $ maker for any bar--the Lighthouse ,is about the only restaurant in TV that does;t have draft beer==guess everyone else is losing $ on draft,too--they must be having a cash flow issue-with the snow birds out of TV
The cardinal rule for any business--don't worry about saving $, make $$

I'm not much of a beer drinker, so the loss of draft beer doesn't affect my opinion. What does is the noticeable decline in the quality of the food. The Iast couple of visits fall onto the mediocre category.

Quantify "near future" and we might have a wager.

I think not. Haven't seen 1 post lately that you've liked the food so if your predictions are true most of us will be eating at home and there will be a lot of empty buildings around! Hope not but time will tell !

When faced with a menu and the food looks sketchy, I order what's messy to make, like wings or fried anything. I go there for the view. I don't know why the villages didn't wrap restaurants all around the shore.

Ditto to your comment. I worked in the wholesale liquor and beer business in the 70s and early 80s and cost per ounce is pretty low. I’m not in tune with the prices any longer but if a wholesale for the standard half barrel that bars use they should be able to yield 165 12 ounce glasses of brew. Let’s say the half barrel cost $85. 165 glasses @ $3= $495. Profit on a half barrel isn’t too bad.

within a year--kaputGoogle has 147 reviews, and rates The Lighthouse 4 stars out of 5. :icon_hungry:
I find the restaurant noisy, but I enjoy the deck overlooking the water.
I think it's a popular spot, and won't be kaput any time soon.

The view will keep it going. I imagine it as an ocean inlet, works for me.

I stopped going out to eat about 8 months ago. Anything in a Walmart cooler is just as good at 1/4 the price. I only go out for beers now.
