Drove my cart over to Lowe's and Walmart on CR 441 this afternoon and noticed the gate to get through to the medical plaza and points north was inoperable and open with stop signs posted next to it. Does anybody know if this is a permanent thing or temporary and why?

Probably broken again. Someone is always running into it.

Give community watch a call...…………….

I'm more surprised when the gate is working then when it's not. Once I saw someone take the gate apart to get out. I called Community watch, but by the time they came the guy was long gone.

Aren't there video cameras installed in order to identify these scoundrels?

There aren't enough cameras or jails to handle the people in this world who have no ethics. I am told the world is a better, safer place but I can't see it.

Gremlins of the night (aka drunks) play havoc with all the gate in the villages. Must have manned 24 hour shift fixing them.:D

Someone is going to royally screw the pooch for the masses. Wait until they rebuild the border wall over there. The tears will be falling then, we’ll need an umbrella to step outside.

People have zero patience at that particular gate because it is a little slower than the other gates. Can you imagine Wawa finally getting built and we can’t access it in our Golf Cart. It wouldn’t be good. Time to call Vito & Rocco.

The cameras records them, but who are they and where do they live?

The cameras records them, but who are they and where do they live? One would think that they live in The Villages because you must have a Villages-issued gate card to open the gate - there is no button for anyone to push to open.
Hmmm, I wonder if the system records the unique ID number of the card used? Apparently not.

Hard to identify a cart. Unless the individual is known or someone catches them in the act, they pretty much get away with breaking gates. Cars can be more easily identified and car owners are more frequently found and cited.

The opposite, Villagers have gate cards so they don't need to break the gate to get through. It is most likely non-villagers who either want to get into the villages via golf cart or who followed a villager in through the gate and subsequently need to get back out.

A couple of times I have gone to/from Lowels via the gate and have encountered golf carts lurking by the gate. When I pulled up to the gate, they got right behind me in an attempt to follow me through. When that happens, I take my time going through the gate and stop about a foot past the gate until It closes so no one without a gate pass can follow me through. Needless to say, I have been on the receiving end of some choice words.

That happened to me once also, so I asked them what Village they lived in. They had absolutely no idea of the name of even one Village. I didn't let them follow me through.

I was behind someone going out of the gate one day. His card would not work, I offered to use mine, but he was afraid he would not be able to get back in. I told him he could go to the Sumter Landing office and get it replaced, he said he was going to do that.

I say, good for him!

Why?

Why?

Probably for the same reason(s) the gates in all of the Villages get damaged. Inattention, intoxication, impatience, etc.

doesn't record any #'s unless the vehicle has a tag

I looked back at some of the older posts by a person who started a new thread on the gate in the historic section, a subject that he had visited several times before and I put in my "why".

It appears there are no good solutions. A manned gate would cost money. People still want to enter The Villages in their golf carts and will try to get a villager to let them in, then without a card they can't get back out. That is one of the causes for broken gates I am all for gates keeping golf carts out and not happy the gates are broken. We have had more than 13 deaths due to golf cart accidents in The Villages in the last ten years. We don't need more golf carts from the "hinterlands" driving around. We have enough as it is.

I don't know about the Orange Blossom gate, but I don't understand why most of the gates aren't replaced with the unbreakable type. It would save a lot of money because they bend and snap back instead of being broken off.

:duck: It would take someones head off when it "snapped back" while they were trying to PIGGYBACK through the gate.:ohdear:

I don't know how fast they "snap" back, but they are used in many places around the country to save money.

 I noticed the gate arms here are held in place by bolts with "plastic" nuts on the back so they pop off. I would think the main damage is to the internal parts of the gate mechanism from any contact with vehicles. :ohdear: If people would just slow down this and many other problems would go away.
