Would you recommend getting the 4k box to be able to get
the broadcast in high def

I have an Xfinity 4K cable box. It only cost about 15 dollars to exchange the regular HD box with the 4K if you do a self install. It does not increase your monthly charges. I also have a 4K DVD player which allows you to play 4K discs and do 4K streaming. Not a lot of 4K content yet, but I think it will increase in the future. You need to make sure that you plug in to the correct HDMI input on your TV. My TV has 4 HDMI inputs, but only 2 of them will support the full ultra high def signal.
