Maria Brooks is the head pro at Palmer and she does a beginners' class. She is an excellent teacher and a lot of fun.

If you do a search on "Barefoot" as the poster and the topic golf, you may find a thread where she talks about her experiences.

I have other friends who have been really pleased with Tree Tops - but I have not taken any lessons there myself. If you do the same search but change the poster to Whalen, you should see some info on Tree Tops.

I fully agree with "katezbox". The Villages Golf Academy at Palmer Legends is a superb facility and they do an excellent job. Maria and her staff are understanding, patient and thorough. They have several different programs.

I too agree with Kate. The lessons there not only teach you how to hit the ball, but the rules and golf "manners" too.

I also agree with Katezbox. I have taken lessons both from Maria and at Treetops from Mark Panigoni, and he is terrific as well. I believe you can buy a series of lessons from him. It might be worth checking the prices at Palmer and Treetops and compare - I think he may be cheaper. What I like is if I have a half hour lesson and he doesn't have anyone scheduled after me, he'll give me more time at no cost. At Palmer, they set you up for 30 minute lessons, and by the time you get in there and the person ahead of you leaves, you only get 20-25 minutes. Now their clinics may be diferent. For beginner, a beginner type of clinic where they cover chipping, putting, full swing, etc., would be ideal. You won't be disappointed at either place.

Barefoot and I took lessons awhile back and can't say enough good things about Maria at Arnold Palmer. We had fun and learned the basics of golf. She has two classes for newbies - New to Golf 1 and New to Golf 2. I highly recommend.

You should try Joe Williams. He is a PGTAA Master Pro and teachs just outside the Villages near Silver Lake on 28 on a golf course near the Carrige Museum. Joe is a former educator and has alot of experince (patience) in teaching high school and college teams. He will start with the basics using the short irons and then progress expecting you to practice (at a range)what showed you. Next lesson he will review and then go over another stroke. He is good for the basics but even better when you return after you have been playing the game for a while. Private Lesson is $25 per half hour...and you get a full 1/2 hour.

House number is 352-259-9709...or a cell number is 352-454-9899

Has anyone tried the Sun advertised Steve Cornetta's clinic at the Waterfront Inn. The ad is a bit cryptic. It says its a "clinic" and it does not say for how long or exactly what is included in the $14. It has reference to 90 minutes and "Sports Scientist". Not sure if you hit real balls or if they are selling something else.

One thing I can suggest is be patient and have fun. As far as your question I would not hesitate to try different pros. Do not think there is something wrong with your game if you cannot do what the pro is asking. The game is very challenging and pros are very different, some mechanical, some feel, and frankly some are just not good :). Find a pro that make you feel comfortable and is helping you improve.

Sounds like some good suggestions posted here. IMO, learn the grip, posture and basic swing then go try it. It is amazing how many people never learn the grip or posture, you get those right you are ahead of most golfers.

As you take that lesson(s), read Ben Hogans 5 fundamentals to golf. It is beautifully illustrated, and you will understand why a pro is saying what they are saying. This book is timeless and very easy to read.

The other key for you to understand is people will continuously be "helping" you with your swing. Be very careful here ;), be polite and say I am see a pro.
