read the reviews
Damsel (2018) - Rotten Tomatoes (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/damsel/)
This is the 3rd time I read glowing reviews and thought the movie was terrible. And I like artsy movies, chick flicks, westerns---I like everything but this was terrible in every category.
I think I need to find out somehow what critics have my taste and read only those. 3 times is too many, even with a moviepass.

I was planning on seeing that one soon.

We watched the movie a couple of days ago and it was beyond terrible!!! Rotten Tomatoes reviews can not be trusted. They must have a vested interest in promoting some of these movies.

I was planning on seeing that one soon. This might sound silly but I didn't like the script. They used language that is contemporary. Maybe they thought it would be querky [sp]. The lead is a Bill Murray knockoff but not engaging. I'll bet they wrote the part for Bill and he turned it down.
It's better then TV so let me know what you think.

I'm not there yet. I need to watch a couple of previews before going. Sometimes I think the critics watch so many movies that even the lousy ones are a change of pace.

I've used IMDB (internet movie database) for at least a dozen years to find out about movies. In fact I've rated about 2500 movies on that site myself. Each movie has a rating of 1 thru 10 that is based on votes by anyone, regular people, not just critics. As of this moment "Damsel" has received only 548 votes, but it's an average of 5.8, which is not good. I found anything under 7.0 is not worth seeing, and that pretty much holds true.

I would give Damsel a rating of 3. You will regret wasting two hours of your life watching this "dumb" movie.

Loved this kind of mix between A Fish Called Wanda, Fargo goes to the frontier, and an ordinary western. This is great satire of the genre and has some strong feminist themes.
I did audit two courses --including one on westerns-- at the University of Nevada, Reno taught by the movie critic not the TV critic Howard Rosenberg. The TV critic Howard Rosenberg was based in Los Angeles. Howard Rosenberg (https://www.unr.edu/art/people/howard-rosenberg) Former L.A. Times TV Critic Howard Rosenberg Enjoying the Life of Academia - NewspaperAlum (http://www.newspaperalum.com/2012/07/former-la-times-tv-critic-howard-rosenberg-enjoying-the-life-of-academia-.html)
I can see how this movie takes some of the westerns' stock images and does something completely new with them. And the lead actress was gorgeous. :bigbow::popcorn:
