I just received a call that I let roll to voicemail from area code 315, (upstate NY). I never pickup my phone when I don't recognize who's calling. 315.232.8381
The message was breaking up, so the best I could determine was the police would be after me, if I did not respond to their message.
How sad these scammers try to make a living over people's vulnerability.
Please feel free to avoid this phone call!!! Shame on these people.

And it's not even a real number. It's just a random made up number and coming from over seas.

We got the same message BUT I did make out they said it was the IRS and we had 4 strikes againest us and IF we didn't call back within 24 hrs the sherriff...then crackle, crackle, crackle. This one has been circulating over years now and it is a scam. The IRS will NOT call you so forget about it. It's deleted!!

So it's a scam?
I feel lucky now.
Thank goodness I was successful in negotiating a lower amount and only wired them $5,000...instead of the $10,000 they originally asked for.

If it is not a real number, what is the point of the scam? If the area code is from New York, how do you know the call came from overseas?

Maybe they were trying to deliver a meal. -- You know, in China, they just call it food!

Just checked my landline in another state. Same two Chinese callers on its VM at almost the same time as here. Maybe my German last name looks Chinese?
