And has for the last several years. I have been diagnosed with low levels of vitamin D and been given the once a week capsule that can only be prescribed by an MD...(please don't dose yourself) I take it year 'round, but I become very tan in the summer and my tinnitus stops in the summer. Just musing. No one can seem to find a reason for tinnitus. I have to wonder if it has something to do with blood levels of vitamin D.

I am retired. I have time to think of crazy stuff. Please don't make fun of me. I haven't had my coffee.

Foods that provide vitamin D include:
Fatty fish, like tuna, mackerel, and salmon.
Foods fortified with vitamin D, like some dairy products, orange juice, soy milk, and cereals.
Beef liver.
Cheese.
Egg yolks.

Is there any chance you eat differently in the Summer?

Thought about that. Don't think so. But I swim more in the summer and vitamin D is made naturally in the skin with the help of the sun.

Do you know why you got Tinnitus? Is it something that you are constantly conscious of, like a tooth ache?

No. There is no known cause but it is fairly common. It is an "electrical" sound to me, an insistent "buzzing" sometimes interfering greatly with what I can hear, even with aids. It can be maddening if you let it get to you. You learn to live with it, you have to learn to live with it. Not even Ear Nose Throat specialists can give you a definitive answer as to the cause. A large room at one of our rec center is filled to overflowing once a month with people who suffer from tinnitus, but not much is available to really help this condition. Nor any VALID studies that I know of. Theories abound...some say the cilia, the tiny hairs that help us hear, in our inner ear are damaged.

been living with it since 1977-after having facial nerve surgery it appeared in right ear-like a radiator hissing-good luck Gracie

Wow, that's amazing. I've heard Ozzy talking about it BC of his life on stages with all the noise but an electrical buzzing......hmmmm. Wonder why.

I have it too. Mostly I tune it out, so to speak. But now that you mention it, it's not there now. We have no air conditioning where we are this summer. Fans and thick stone walls. Could humidity have something to do with it? We have a nice amount of humidity, not too much that you're suffering from it. I didn't even realize it was gone till you brought it up.

Found reason for mine! Acoustic neuroma (AN) The ENT doctor said the only way can detected AN early (when small) is by tone loss, tinnitus soon sets in when the tumor starts pushing on the inner ear. In my case I have no left ear or associated parts. I have tinnitus in left ear where there is no ear just pencil hanger:eek:

Mine is a high pitched tone. It sounds like I am constantly taking a hearing test. I think it is there all the time, but I only notice it when it is quiet in the room. Sometimes it is louder and sometimes less loud. Doesn't interfere with conversations or daily activity, so, for me, not so bad. Irritating.

The only remedy that has ever helped my tinnitus is a supplement call NAC (N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine) 600mg 2x a day. A research scientist at Mitre pointed me towards this some years ago. No guarantees, as there are many different types of tinnitus, but something you may want to investigate further.

Hmmmm. Something that diminishes in the summer......I wonder if Snowbirds emit audible vibrations.

I used to have tinnitus real bad along with severe hearing loss.. it was like having a million crickets in my ears... I started wearing hearing aids and it's gone.. the only time I occasionally hear them now is if I take out my hearing aids for few hours

Mine started week after I retired. Worked in a very high noise manufacturing facility. It is there but many days I don’t even think of it, although I can hear it clearly now reading this post. I went to a group meeting here in Villages a couple years back and thought it would be about people sharing their experiences but it ended up a sales promotion for couple vendors.

You know, I suspected that very thing.

Graciegirl, Your condition is very interesting. I definitely don't think you are crazy but possibly you get more Vitamin D from the sun in the summer which must help. :mornincoffee:
