I wish we had a true farmers market in TV. I’m sure there must be local tomatoes and corn and stuff so why aren’t they available?

What's the matter with Every Sat in Brownwood or get in your car and you can find plenty of stands selling fresh items during season.

Farms farm big and harvest big and as Dewilson said, they grow in season.. Farmers don't keep a few pigs and cows and grow carrots and broccoli like years ago. Think of the huge citrus industry that is here in Florida and think about spending danged nigh two bucks on three lemons. Most of the produce we eat is brought to us from afar because that is where it is grown.

Does anyone want to be in my version of a farm co-op?

Here's my version.

At the end of the day at Brownwood some vendors when they are packing up want to sell out and offer big discounts for buying 10 lbs at a time. At least they did years ago. I don't want 10 lbs of any one thing. I don't want to throw it out no matter how cheap it is, no canning for me ether.

So if a couple of other like minded individuals will meet at a predetermined time,we will head to different stands, split the bill and divvy the goods every saturday when they are about to close. I'll eat anything so it doesn't matter what you buy.

I'll bring a big knife in case we get a water melon. We can meet inside Barnstorm Theater.

Gracie dear, I agree. Perhaps we should revert to the earlier model. I also agree with your take on lemon prices.

But even more, I adore you for your ability to use correctly the word nigh.

Henry K. My picture may end up on the online news for trespassing in someone's yard and stealing lemons.

Probably not...……..

The Calla Lily's are going strong in the heat. Many thanks.

I don't live in the villages, however I am willing to share (one of my) million dollar ideas :eclipsee_gold_cup: (LOL):

Renovate a soft Ice Cream truck and drive it around. :gc:

Here is how this works... People in the villages probably fondly remember the Good Humor man or a similar ice cream truck :coolsmiley: that would parade around on hot afternoons and evenings, playing circus like music and selling to the kids in each neighborhood.

Modernizing and making this more “age appropriate” – The truck plays classic (50’s – 60’ s and 70’s) rock music :MOJE_whot: or similar to draw out residents. Instead of serving ice cream, they are serving slushy margaritas, pina coladas, daiquiris, rum and coke, Mai Tai, Martinis, Lemon twists and such! Complete with the fruit slice and umbrella in the top! (They could also have beer and wine for those who don’t prefer such a sweet drink). :beer3:

Wouldn’t that be great to have your very own bartender that came to your home?! Like that song said once said . .. “You can take a trip and never leave the farm”!:evil6:

Promotions! Frequent Buyer “Punch” Cards! (Pun intended) so that after buying 10, you get one free!

Make the “rounds” at about the same time each day in the same areas to build a regular clientele... humm, will probably need more than one truck after business gets going.

Anyway, the title of this thread made me remember this idea that I had from a couple years back….:ho:

I used to know a guy with a beard and an old pickup truck who sold produce at a farmers market in Virginia. He bought the produce at a wholesale outlet and made a lot of easy money selling it. Unfortunately, he had never been a farmer, and didn't care where the produce was grown. I am very skeptical of farmers markets.

Webster flea market.

Webster is good (and fun) except it's a good 40-45 minutess away and only on Monday's (which is a strange day for a flea market). Plenty of fleas around here <scratch-scratch>

In the latest round of promotional videos from TV, they mention the "Grow'n" project to grow local fresh produce. Not sure of the full scope, and I'm sure it's a year+ away, but it might be the start of a more permanent/robust source of fresh produce. More to come . . .
