View Full Version : WVLG now streaming on Villages app

I just noticed last night that the latest version of The Villages app now streams WVLG live. Much better sound quality than the AM broadcast with its 60’s tinny thin sound. It’s still not streaming on iHeart Radio which would make listening a lot more convenient. It’s a little progress.
I would listen to the station a lot more if the sound quality was better. Hello Villages are you listening? We know you’re out there reading all the web traffic! Time to upgrade the radio station to modern times.

You can also get it on Xfinity channel 99. The station may be outdated, but so am I, and that is why I like it.

A lot of AM stations that played music moved to talk radio as FM stereo was the choice format. Perhaps WVLG will follow some day.

I would love to see WLTV on FM, it is a real pain to change radio from FM (normal mode for me) to AM, at least 3 button pushes, IF I left WLTV as the last station on the AM band, otherwise additional button pushes to get to the station.

The Villages app for IOS (IPad and iPhone) has 7 menu item on the home screen. WVLG listen live is one of them. Not sure if this app exists for any other platform. If you don’t see it as an option, you’re not using the Villages app. I don’t believe it’s an option from the Villages web site.

I have the latest app version on my Android tablet and phone. There are only 6 menu items on the home screen. So, maybe it does not work for Androids.

I'm sure glad you couldn't find it either. I even uninstalled the app and reinstalled it on my Android phone, and still couldn't find a link to WVLG. I was just getting ready to enter a reply asking where the link was on the App, when I saw your reply. If anyone ever sees it on an Android, please post so I will know to look for it.

No April Fools on this, I've installed it on 2 iPads and on my iPhone, all have it and play the radio station. My guess is that it's not available for an android yet.
I only have one android tablet and it's attached to my drone's controller, NOTHING gets installed on that unit so I won't even start to look for it there.

If you have the app on your iphone, you need to update it. The update came out only a couple of days ago. If you don't update your Villages app, you won't find the radio station.

Then when I reinstalled the app, the new options including streaming audio appeared! Like magic!

No, it's not the GPS app. It's a free app called "The Villages App" (at least on iPhone) put out by The Villages. It has things like movie and entertainment schedules and other stuff , and a stream of the villages radio station

I have tried it with 3 browsers - Firefox, Edge and Chrome. The results are identical on all of them - the page is darkened (like a with a black filter), the page appears to the zoomed in, no control buttons, no sound, the image of the performer does change apparently as the song changes.

The only problem so far is that the stream on my smart phone stops after about 5 minutes, and I have to restart it. Hopefully that is just a temporary problem.

While I won't be listening to the WVLG app or on my laptop 24/7, it's kind of nice to hear it for an hour or so a day up here in Illinois. I even enjoy hearing the open house notices in the morning...maybe I'm the only one :)
That's the great thing about technology...if you don't like a TV show or a song on the radio, just turn off the TV or radio or switch to another station. With so many more media outlets available via the internet or satellite, our music, news, and talk choices are just about limitless.

I agree. We don’t listen to the station much while in RI but occasionally we do. And when we do it makes us feel a little closer to Villages. And that’s a good thing.
We also enjoy hearing the open house notices as we are still deciding whether we want to upgrade.

I love listening to WVLG on the AM radio in my 67 Chevelle. Before moving here, all I could listen to while driving my baby is talk radio. Now I can listen to my favorite tunes from the 60s.

When I am listening to the WVLG app on my car radio using bluetooth, why does the signal sometimes drop out sporadically and then come back on after a few minutes? Is it because the car is in motion and the 4G on my cell phone get disconnected and then reconnected?

That could happen. But, also, the station seems to cut out more often when listening to it through internet streaming. It is more stable when you listen to it live using the direct AM radio signal, although the sound quality may not be as good.

I sometimes now listen to WVLG via bluetooth in my car on my way to and from work. I have an 1 hour, sometimes 1 hour 15 minute commute each way, so I have plenty of time.
Just wondering why the stream sometimes cuts out frequently while I am driving? Some days the stream will stay active for 35 or 40 minutes before cutting out, and other times it cuts out every 5 or 6 minutes.
I'm listening to WVLG right now on my PC. Just played "Losing My Religion" by R.E.M. This song was released in 1991, so 1990's songs must now be on their playlist. Definitely trying to appeal to a younger audience.

If you're listening through the Sirius/XM app, and NOT on Wi-Fi, you're using cellular data. Depending on your plan, this could be significant, depending on how long you listen each day.
