Emotional Support Animals No Longer Allowed on Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships

Royal Caribbean has updated its policy on emotional support animals. Emotional support animals -- defined as those whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support -- are no longer allowed onboard its ships; emotional support animals do not qualify as service animals under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA).

Was so ridiculous. The same thing should happen everywhere like airlines, restaurants, stores.

It was only a matter of time. Dog owners abuses of the "service dog" designation has gotten way out of control. Companies should be prohibited from selling Servive dog vests to anyone without proof the dog is legitimate.

Oh thank God. I asked a woman last week at the Belvedere Library if I could pet her "service dog", you know the one wearing no vest... and she said YES. Um, you should never pet a REAL service dog. I am not a fan of people who abuse the system. The poor dog!

Almost enough to get me to book a cruise. Excellent move on RC’s part. Here’s hoping more follow.

Why would someone need emotional support from an animal while on vacation anyway? If a cruise stresses you out - pick a different kind of vacation!

I'm a bit curious. Where do these dogs that are on cruise ships pee and poop?

when we were on princess, they had a crew area stairway at the end of the hallway that our cabin neighbors used for there large dog. It was a small fake grass patch. We asked them and they were more than happy to show us.

I want to know what was done with the poop when they picked it up, and how can you clean pee.

Who's going to take care of my pet pig. Boo Hoo! Now, if only the restaurants, stores and airlines would wake up. Recently a guy had a dog on his lap the entire SW Air flight. When it landed in Orlando, I saw him go down the escalator toward luggage, but the dog stopped at the botton of the stairs and took a dump right on the floor. No, he did not stop to clean it up. He ran out the door. The madness has got to stop. Feel sorry for the people who really need a SERVICE DOG. Some Dogs owners are out of control. Thank God Publix stopped animals from sitting in the shopping carts. Only my opinion

You and Ellen and your squirrel are always welcome at our home Don. Please don't let him eat nuts in the living room. Actually it is using that damn toothpick afterward that is annoying.

In other people's cabins or public areas...of course.

And it's way past time to formalize the designation of even 'service animals' much less 'emotional support' ones...as it's been a farce for all too long.

After all, any pet owner who cares for their animals can easily claim...they emotionally support them.

Why have a pet in the first place...if you're not 'emotionally attached' to them?

There is always good news and bad news...
Southwest will allow emotional support miniature horses on their flights,
and here is a photo of how they will travel.
