Finally a contract (after 147 showings in 21 months) on our Sarasota home that will close on March 15, 2010. Can you imagine the fun of getting your house ready 147 times to be shown? Not to mention the extra low price.
Now the fun....... we plan to rent for 6 months to a year. Have contacted the JD Management rentals, Villages Long Term rental office and "thevillages4rent.com". We have a Schnauzer and a Yorkie, (great dogs, no shedding, a bath once a week and totally housebroken) so that significantly narrows the options with those 3.
Anyone have suggestions for other sources of long term, pet friendly, unfurnished rentals priced around $1200 a month, starting March 1, 2010? Makes me a little nervous of becoming homeless in a few weeks, LOL. On the bright side, it almost seems surreal that the time has come that we can really live and enjoy all the wonderful things The Villages has to offer.
House is getting packed and the movers are ready.

Oh, I can't imagine having to show the house 147 times! I bet you're glad that part is over. Good luck finding somewhere to rent for a while; hope something works out for you right away! I think I heard there was a place over by Spanish Springs -- some sort of hotel/suites -- which allows pets, so I guess plan B could be to store your belongings and rent a suite until you can find a home to rent.

It took us 11 months to sell our house in Sarasota( in Palm Aire; sold last June) Not as many showings as you but felt like it.

We received and accepted an offer just a few days before going north for the summer, so we stopped off at The Villages on the way north and bought what we knew we wanted after a couple of visits previously.

Been back here since November 1st and it WAS the correct move!

Good luck to you on the move.

Only 3 open houses. Wife did not want open houses and I agreed, however we did have a total of 15 people for the 3 open houses we allowed. Open house are really for the agent to find more contacts and clients for other houses.

BettyB,

I remember a post about those suites...as I recall the price was less than $1,000/month. If I was more literate about doing a search I could find it for you.

Does anyone have a handle on the search function who could find that post for BettyB?

The lovely Diane and I may be interested in renting a suite next Jan-Feb-Mar ourselves.

I guess we were lucky. Sold the Miami-area condo in about an hour after it was listed.
The buyer had just about completed a purchase in our building but the seller suddenly wanted a few more dollars and it fell through. She loved the building and her real estate person clicked up the MLS and we just appeared (for $43,000 less) and she scooped it up immediately.

That great building now has well over 20 for sale including a handful of foreclosures. Several listed $20-30,000 less than ours! I think the almost seller is kicking himself now.

I thought we had it bad with 27 showings in 4 months and we too has to lower our price. We accepted only $5K less than our lower limit on sales price but we wanted to be able to take advantage of the $6500 tax credit that applies to us so that more than covers it.

We have two Yorkies but are lucky that we can stay with relatives until we pick the house we want in the Villages. We are limited to the Court Yard Villas since they are the only ones that are fenced in. I do not want a lot of land. Just enough to let the dogs out to do their business when weather conditions do not allow a walk and enough room for a BBQ grill. That is it. I have a large yard now and only fenced in a small portion for the dogs and have to pay someone to take care of land that I never use.

I was interested to read about the long term rentals in the Villages. That increases our options as we do not want to overstay our welcome with our relatives and now gives us the option to Custom build or wait for a house still under constuction.

A lot of them take dogs. Almost none of them allow cats. That's why we bought here. Our Utah cat-sitter graduated and moved away. We couldn't leave Baby Monroe and Tommy Boy with a stranger or in a kennel for months at a time. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. ;)

Finally & what a great feeling huh. We had our house listed for 13 months and never had an open house. Once you're here please join us at one of the monthly meetings at Crispers. You'll meet many people that went through the same.
