I was thinking about Bluefin coming in B-wood and wondered who would write the first review.

Then I thought about Bonnie, and just sighed.

Thinking about when it will open and will it be a big hit!

Does anyone know the proposed opening date?

I predict someone will pan it, within the first ten posts.

I'm just hoping Fred stays true to his original concept for Bluefin, which was a seafood place. I'm a little apprehensive that the name now puts steaks ahead of seafood, ie; Bluefin Grill and Bar Steaks and Seafood. If they're both good, OK, but please don't just put Salmon on the menu and call it a seafood place.

Just watched the vmail about Bluefin. Fred Karimpour, is emphatic that it will be a seafood place with something for everyone, including steaks and chops. Local fish deliveries 4-5 times a week and produce every day!

It will probably be the same fish truck that delivers to all the other country clubs. I will be surprised if they are serving “fresh fish”.

Based on all of this guy's restaurants, Honestly I cannot see this a go to place. All of his Restaurant are only barely OK...brought in food from Sysco. and other all pre- paired food companies.

Typical microwave in bag ...Nothing like a Honest to goodness Chef in Charge Restaurant. They are all the same ...TooJays, Evans,Palmers, etc etc etc

A Damn Shame.... Hey it's The Villages .... They continue to get away with it.

Don't believe this place could support a Chef in Charge Restaurant. They are out there, in Ocala, Tampa, Orlando where there are customers that will pay for that on a regular basis.

We need a pure seafood restaurant you can walk into and order an excellent seafood based soup along with a entrée consisting of a great piece of fresh broiled /grilled fish and/or shellfish together with a fresh green vegetable. For the most part hold the sauces and let me have some butter and lemon wedges. And please no potato, rice or pasta dishes designed to add bulk to the plate By chance does anyone remember " Charlie's Crab " up north.

Part of your um post I am forced to agree with. And the other part makes me curious. Who is "They"?

I have no problem with pre-prepared food in general, but fish isn't good cooked and frozen. Sauces and gravies and some vegetables do very well being made ahead of time and often are more tasty than the kids who work in most restaurant kitchens that are affordable for frequent visits know how to prepare. I am more and more a fan of my own cooking these days.

Yup. Chuck Muer and family. Chuck was lost at sea on his sailboat and the chain ended up folding. At one point, they had a few locations in south FL. BUT, You could still get the whole enchilada at Charlies...or just a piece of plain grilled fish. They also served steaks. Hmmm, sounds a litle like what Bluefish is supposed to be.

Not to get too far off topic, but when they closed the "flagship", Joe Muers, on Gratiot Avenue in Detroit, I made sure I got one last meal there. Great "old school" dining as it was meant to be.

Don't expect that at Bluefin ( tuxedoed waiters would be overkill when the uniform of the day here is polos and shorts) but serve me a fresh properly cooked piece of seafood with a smile, some good wine, and I'll be back.

My biggest complaint about seafood dishes in restaurants is that "watery" under taste that lets you know the fish was grabbed out of their freezer. I hope Bluefin will truly have "fresh" (maybe flash-frozen on the boat, but not stuffed in a freezer) fish and seafood.

As I mentioned earlier, a number of Villagers south of 466A have already been to Bluefish and commented on our neighborhood site about it. Here's a couple examples:

Eight of us went to Blue Fin yesterday for lunch. ALL OF US had delicious meals. We were sitting at their gorgeous long granite table in the center wall area. Several of us had their "Shareable" COQUILLE ST. JACQUES (fresh scallops, mushroom sherry cream sauce, butter toasted panko, crostini) for $12.40. It was delicious. The scallops were among the best I've ever had. I personally did not think $12.40 was too much that kind of upscale dish for lunch. Several in our group had the fish tacco's - they all said they were delicious. The staff was very attentive. The manager came over several times to check on us. Their chocolate martini's were not the typical watered down variety you get at the country clubs. Granted they are a little pricey at $7. but they were at least twice as good. Their martini glass was larger, it had grated chocolate in it, chocolate liqueur (not chocolate syrup), and the cream was real cream not half and half. The shrimp in their shrimp cocktail were very large - one friend made it her lunch. You pay for what you get, good or bad, and it was very good. We'll be back! We thought we saw someone with Oyster Rockefeller (not on menu) and the manager said to always ask if you want something you don't see on the menu - they might have it. They get their fish daily. We'll be back!
+++++++
Went to Blue Fin last nite for the soft opening.
We are SOOOOOOOOO FORTUNATE to have this amazing new restaurant here.
The service was friendly, professional, and helpful!
The appetizers were scrumptious- calamari, and 2 kinds of shrimp-you could make a meal out of them and so yummy!!!!!
The 2 petite steaks with mushroom sauce melted in your mouth. The grilled asparagus was tender and tasty top to bottom, salmon and scallops were melt in your mouth too. Cole slaw was delish! Mixed drinks and martinis were perfect. Michael, the young GM, is an amazing, friendly, handsome gentleman more than willing to make your dining experience memorable!!!!!!
Fred, the owner, is so proud of their newly remodeled establishment with a beautiful relaxing atmosphere. It is just beautiful!
Saving dessert for last! Fabulous 3 layer choco cake and creme brûlée, just mouth watering. Also, the lucious fruit that decorated the desserts was so fresh and tasty!!!!!!
Now, of course, there were way more selections. I am only describing what we had. Menu is large, choices are varied.
+++++++
Our group of six ate there yesterday. The decor is very nice if not exquisite. The service was excellent as was the food. The menu contains several items that I need to go back and try. The prices are what you would expect for a restaurant that is more upscale than many here in the Villages, but we thought they were very reasonable for the quality of the dining experience of decor, service, food. First, we were allowed two shareable appetizers for the group. We chose "sticky ribs" and calamari. The "sticky ribs" were crispy and delicious with a teriyaki/soy sauce. The calamari had a light batter, were deep fried, and were so tender and yummy and were liked by all six. My wife and I commented that we could go for lunch and just share a couple of the sharable items. Three of our group had the twin petite filets of beef. They all commented on how delicious and tender they were. My wife had the seared scallops and chose the bacon/brussel sprouts for one of her sides; she thought they were the best scallops she has had in The Villages and comparable to the best she has ever had anywhere. She loved the Brussel sprouts. I had the peppered ahi, cooked medium, which came with garlic mashed potatoes and a wild mushroom sauce---excellent. Our dessert was the salted caramel cheesecake. Excellent. We look forward to going back and trying several other items on the menu. They do have some non-seafood entrees and the menu is online.

Honestly, we don't go out to eat , when the food we make @ home blows most of the restaurants here out of the water--we go out for specific dishes that are too time consuming,(prep) and slow cooking--or for certain cuts of meat that are no longer available in the area

I am confused.

For someone who "doesn't go out to eat" how have you arrived at all your prolific personal opinions about the food being served in area restaurants?

When 95% (being charitable) of a posters prolific comments regarding places to eat in and around The Villages are negative, a reader just moves on to someone else's comment .. It's kind of like the Cry Wolf syndrome. Sooner of later there might be something positive and constructive said, but most of us will miss it.. Oh well .. Some Will, Some Won;t ... NEXT !!

All right already - we know Bluefin is not up to your esteemed standards - not many - if any - Villages restaurants are - maybe one critical post from you per restaurant is enough for us to understand that you are unhappy with what the Villages has to offer - no need to beat the dead horse - please please please give us a break from your tired opinions

Look, nobody cares if you don't like any particular dish or any dish for that matter, at any particular establishment. No one likes everything and some are more particular or have different tastes than others. If, in your opinion, every restaurant in the free world is lacking, that is fine. What is not so fine is when you imply or outright state that others that do not agree with you lack sophistication, discernment, or are rubes you cross a line between opinion and judgement. I don't think most people that like things that you, or I, don't like are somehow less worthy, but simply they have a different tolerance and palate. I have a spouse that would not touch sushi, no matter how high the quality or price - I accept that just as she accepts that I hate beef liver, which she adores. We could all use a little more acceptance and understanding for others, and not just in the realm of food. FWIW, I am happy with several of the "country club" restaurants in The Villages - many good, tasty choices and reasonable prices - plus we don't dirty the kitchen. If you disagree; cool, just don't tell me I'm wrong.

I think some people like to complain to use it as an avenue to let you know where they are from so they can brag they are an expert on seafood, pizza, bagels, etc.
This goes on and on. When they are here they tell you how much better it is up north, then they go up north and tell their friends how much better it is in Florida.

Hello there, your regular no pinky finger sticking out, run of the mill, garden variety Villager. We went today to Bluefin, Mrs. Nucky and myself were more than happy with the entire experience and the food was BEAUTIFUL AND DELICIOUS! We were a party of 6, 3 were thrilled 1 was inconclusive and the two who know about the restaurant business were not impressed. They really are nice people but little things that they get hung up on don't matter to us. We will definitely return many, many more times. For the quality and taste of the food compared to the prices I think its a great bang for the buck and the place is really nice and the service was great. The only thing they screwed up was the appetizer of the guy who knows about the food business and they didn't tell him until everyone else was served. Ooops! I gave him some of my Calamari and he handled it well, I don't know if they fixed up his bill for the mistake.

The only thing wrong was that they are new and getting their act together, they don't have far to go to be perfect.

What was the name of the business in that spot before the German Restaurant?

P.S. we went at about 3.30 and it was not crowded, when we departed the line was long. The customers seemed very happy.

I do indeed. I've also been in foodservice for over 31 years. Hawai'ian fish has to rank as some of the best in the world. When the former owner of Hemmingway's ( now Havana) stopped bringing in fish from Honolulu Fish Company, we were very disappointed.

That said, you work with what you have here. I'm hopeful Bluefin will expand the fresh catch to include Triple Tail, Yellow Snapper, Grouper, etc. As others have pointed out, we're only an hour and a half from the sea on either side.

I have no problem with anyone complaining about food in TV or elsewhere. What I find insulting is the condescending and pompous attitude some have about their self proclaimed superior taste.

Perfectly stated! Thank you! :bigbow:

Not everyone here has incomes that will support $100+ plus dining for two. For those who do, power to them. When we first came here, Hacienda CC required semi-formal dress for dining. With the coming of other venues, it soon became unsustainable. Many people moved here to get away from all the pomp and circumstance. I also remember when Cattle Baron was a private club within a private club, Katie Belle's. Chico's location was a part of Katie Belle's known as Delmonico's Steak House. The beauty of being here is that there is something for EVERYONE. We don't all have to be alike or like the same things or places. I'm not a fan of seafood, but would love to have a chili cheese dog from a place called "der Weinerschnitzel" in Amarillo. Best ever!! Different strokes for different folks.

Nobody threw Rose Pedals at their feet when we walked in. We went early so we wouldn't have to wait. Then it's unbelievable but everywhere we go with them the restaurant blows it in some way with their appetizer. Never a problem for us, ever. Yesterday the waiter didn't let them know that whatever they ordered was out of stock for their appetizer. The guy in the know told us all I told you we should have waited a couple of weeks till they get their act together. The service was great and the quality, temperature, and frilly decorations on the plate were up to snuff for him.

To our knowledgeable friend's credit, he took the appetizer mistake in stride and he was happy with his meal.

He did mention that this restaurant is going to stay as it is something that Villagers really want and it has many strong points as I hope I have pointed out correctly.

I'm ready to go back today, Mrs. Nucky is thinking its a go but not until later around 7 PM probably.

Thank you for an honest review.

My son has worked in some of the best hotels with some great chefs and he is not a food snob. He will comment on how some food choices are preferable and is satisfied with the quality of of food.

People did not move to TV for it's food quality, (fine dining), as it leaves something to be desired. One has to choose what restaurants are acceptable to their taste. Some of us are satisfied with decent food quality as my own palate is not very sensitive. If the food is not moving, it's good enough for me. :D

Hoping the Bluefin becomes a destination restaurant. I will go there when the initial furor dies down.

Went to Bluefin yesterday about 4:45 PM. The place was just starting to get busy with the dinner service. Excellent service and good food. We both had a drink and then shared a bottle of reasonably priced wine. Oysters Rockefeller and Conch Fritters were the appetizers and Swordfish and Scallops the entrees. Everything was very fresh. This restaurant is not inexpensive when you add the liquor and wine but if they maintain the quality of both service and food they will see us a couple times each month. I hope there are enough patrons that feel similarly to make this a profitable venture for the owners. This restaurant and Rose Plantation have raised the bar for " fine " dining in The Villages.

The problem is that the villagers want to pay $15.00 for meal! Don't blame the restaurants.

If I had to pay $15 every time I dined out at a local non-chain restaurant I'd be broke. Or I'd have to cook every night instead, and never go out at all.

I can get a fried OR broiled fillet of sole, with a side of slaw and onion rings (they do their own breading at the store) and a soda for under $10.

Two 1/2 pound hot buttered lobster rolls and a side of fries to share is $40.

Does the Villages have a local dog/burger/seafood joint like that? I noticed prices of stuff were typically higher in TV than here in Connecticut, which surprised me since it's supposedly marketed more for people on a fixed income (not exclusively, but more toward).

I get that they wouldn't survive on EarlyBird specials at a place where the vast majority of customers would be EarlyBirds... but you'd think there'd be a happy medium - slightly lower prices all the time, with no - or fewer - specials.

The high lighted above is a personal assumption...yours/somebody else.
I have never seen or experienced a marketing effort toward those on a fixed income.

Fixed income is an ambiguous term which most assume to be synonymous with low income.
There are many here in TV on a fixed income that are wealthy by comparison.

Do you think people working for a living, providing for a family are better off that the so called "fixed income" retirees-- there nothing stopping anyone who needs more income from finding a job in TV--

Happy to read your review. We can't wait to try Bluefin.

Lot of background in the restaurant business, family backed the Glouster House in NYC, next door to the Helmsley Palace--know good seafood and the seafood scams

Gloucester House was great -- is it still around?

It went under, our last meal there was $1500. party of 6, the Maitre D' asked " are we going to be open?" I said we'll see--they closed - got a couple hundred pounds of lobster and good booze before the doors closed --that evening we took a private elevator to the Rainbow Room-amazing sight snow flowing up

Miss those days- can't do that lifestyle any more

Stopped for dinner last night. Inside and out was full with a wait of about half hour.

Started with Coquille St Jacques, the four scallops were tender, and the sherry crean sauce was not overwhelming. Crostini was crisp, but could have used a couple more to make use of the mushroom and Swiss topping. Dish came out bubbly hot.

Coconut Haddock with a mild beurre blanc was good. Fish was moist, the mango salsa and dark rum did not over take the fish, coconut was not noticeable.

The asparagus, green beans, and Brussel sprouts were flavorful. I could make a meal out of the veggies.

Swordfish was thick, and cooked perfectly, and dish came out hot. Couple of nice wines offered.

Wait staff is well trained, went over specials, the menu, and answered questions with enthusiasm. Did not have any dessert just no room but maybe next time. It’s about time someone realizes that this is a community that enjoys well prepared food, with good service.

Ate at BF yesterday- arrived at 2:35PM. Décor especially nice, waiter(young women) was bright, alert and fun as well as quite competent. Food was well prepared and the presentation was outstanding. Not many customers there at the early hour , which obviously makes thigs somewhat easier for staff. We will definitely return, but will continue to avoid "rush" times. If this establishment can remain consistent service and quality, I think they will do very well. In my very amateur opinion this is now the best restaurant located on property within TV.

Mid-Afternoon meals.................We like doing this as well. There are times we like the hustle/bustle so we sit at the bar and have "a meal."

I can no longer go outside in my Speedo..........so we jumped in the golf cart, avoided two piles of dog poop on the paths and parked illegally.

Finally got to BF. Put our name in and was able to go have a beer across the square as they sent a text that our table was ready, that was nice. Found the atmosphere and decor was wonderful. Food was wonderful, portions were more than enough and the wait staff was just right. Nice bottle of Pinot with dinner. Still can not understand the continuing comments of being pricey. If you are looking for prices for a fried fish patty sandwich and a Bud, then it is pricey. Will definitely go back and hope that we can continue to enjoy this establishment for years to come.

Returned to Blue Fin for the second time yesterday, and again I was very pleased with the food and service. I had the lobster again, and it was perfect. You get what you pay for at this restaurant.

We had the "shareable" - Coquille St. Jacques - delicious with the crostini cheese sauce and I had the grouper. Good service and excellent dinner. We enjoyed sitting outside and listening to the music on the square. Also liked the pomegranate martini.

Folks, I've got to know - describe to me what does lobster taste like to you? My wife has described it as sweet tasting seafood. Honestly, I have never eaten lobster in my 65 yrs. of life; raised poor on a rural farm in the South and have always been kind of frugal on spending a lot of money on a meal.

Mrs. KC's work took her coast to coast and border to border and has no trouble spending the coin for a great meal :); me, I could survive on a Thomas bagel for breakfast and a sandwich for lunch and supper.

I only eat Lobster Tails. I tried a whole 3 lb Maine Lobster once at the N.J. Seashore and it didn't go good.

I really don't know how to describe the taste other than delicious. I really want to tell you but can't.

The cheapest way to find out if you like it is to go to Sam's St. John's Seafood 614 17860, SE 109th Ave, Summerfield, FL 34491

My favorite place but the wife doesn't like it too much. $20-$25 for three Lobster tails and a whole lot of other goodies. You'll leave full to the brim.

The other place was Palmer C.C. not too shabby! I think Surf & Turf was about $30

There really is no way to describe the taste of lobster. It tastes like lobster. It is a taste unto its own. But if you've ever had shrimp or crab, or langostino, it tastes like it belongs in that category, but unique. Has a similar "bite" sensation or "mouth feel" to it, though crab tends to be more of a shred than a chunk. It is a sweeter taste than the other shellfish. But "sweet" is a misnomer. It's not sweet, as in a dessert or sugar. It's more sweet, as in, not fishy or especially savory.

It's very pricey. Majorly pricey. Almost $16 for fish and chips, and almost $4 for a side of green beans. That's pretty insane. We might go once just so we can say we did. But I'd never look forward to spending $4 for a side of green beans. That's just flat out wrong.

I was thinking about Bluefin coming in B-wood and wondered who would write the first review.

Then I thought about Bonnie, and just sighed.

Hi, been there twice. Awesome service, Scallops, Cod, Large Salads, perfect.
Clean and tidy, a real nice feature for the Villages to see and learn something.

I would skip the green beans. But, I think the country clubs have been charging $17 for fish and chips for a long time.

I don't think the prices will go down. The prices are the same as when they opened in the beginning of September. The restaurant is always busy and I think the prices match the quality.

Nick, I read the menu and it looks super! But, regrettably, three tails is now $27.99. However, I haven’t had any for about eighteen months, so I may splurge.

As far as taste, it is succulent, juicy and not at all “fishy.” The texture, to me, is somewhere between shrimp and langostino—firm yet tender.

I make a very good lobster baked and stuffed with scallops, shrimp, leeks and a bit of panko.

We'll see. They lower the prices back down at all the CC's he owns in the summer. This place hasn't gone through a summer yet. Every new restaurant in TV is packed for awhile after they first open.

At my favorite little bar a Friday Fish Fry costs about $15 with french fries and coleslaw. A good old fashioned runs about $5. So define pricey...

Where in this area? I don't know. But up north I can get a fried sole sandwich made with two fresh (not previously frozen) breaded fillets, onion rings, and a side of slaw for $9. 7.50 on Friday.

The fish from the northern shore area is amazing, I agree. Grew up in a fishing community. Then I moved to CA....had to give different seafood a try. Discovered I like much of it....same for FL. The prices are what they are. People can only surmise why they are more expensive than they feel it should be. Haven’t been to Bluefin yet, but it’s on my list of new restsurants to try.

went there sunday night 7pm, sat outside in front closest to Dunkin Donuts.

Got beers at the outside bar while waiting for table. $2.95 each, when we sat and ordered another round, the price dropped to $2.75...humm....

Ordered the red fish and chips-I prefer them tampura style, they were more or less breaded. Not the best, but lots of fish. Waitress forgot the ketchup and I was mostly finished with my fries when she came back around.

Friends ordered clam cakes, they were pretty good, or so he said. Other friend ordered fish tacos, again no complaints.

Waitress wasn't on top of it with the refills and additional beer orders. We kept having to ask the other tables waitress to get ours to stop bye. There were many empty tables so I don't think she was overly busy....

So although it was a little better than the german food and the tapas, the jury is still out.

Just back from 1:30pm lunch at BF with out-of-town guests. 1st time there for us all, and outside patio seating. Had Fish&Chips, Sesame Ahi, Calamari Salad, and Tuna melt. Everything was A#1. Food was very good and presented well. Service was very friendly, prompt, and hot food delivered in about 10 minutes. Could not ask for better.

Will definitely go back. Easy to see why business is good and comments here = the same.
