Greetings Villagers
For those in Fenney, what noise or damage have you experienced from blasting from the quarry?
We met a couple up in Sumter Landing who told us it’s a BIG problem. They bought in Spanish Springs. Our sales agent, who shall remain nameless here, said he didn’t even know there was a quarry until we mentioned it to him.
What’s the scoop from your perspective?

Your sales agent lied to you, as there's no way...they don't know about the quarry..
Your choice from here.

I don’t know about blasting from the quarry but I do know Fenney seems to be in the middle of nowhere and from my perspective it’s not anything like the Villages we love here in the north end. Maybe if we were in our 50s we’d think about buying there because in 10 years could be a great place. We took a drive there recently and it was a 50 mile round trip from the Chatam area via rt 301/Powell Rd to 44 then on to Fenney

I am so sorry Vintageoguage and all of you lovely people who live in Fenney. I immediately think this topic could have appeared so as to make people not buy NEW homes, because a certain bunch can't sell new homes. But I am plumb worn out with debating.
I certainly immediately thought that is what it could be.
I will get some sleep and be back to defend y'all in the morning if I can. I lived in a new village once that was picked on. So glad we chose it.
NO. I don't sell houses and I don't know any Morse folks.

Oh dear Gracie Girl - I didn’t mean to open old wounds. I’m also not a real estate agent - I’m a TV-to-be.
I’m a newbie and we are most interested in the new areas because of a few attributes including - more options for enclosed yard for our dog, and 2.5 baths, price, newer homes and technology, closer to our daughter and grandbabies in Clermont, and potentially a quieter ambiance than the exciting activity in the heart of TV.
We are hoping that the blasting topic has been overstated - but we also want to know what Fenney-ites DO experience. My hubby has worries that our walls might come crashing down.
Yes, my beloved is a worrier by nature and so if we know the scoop and what to expect it’ll be far less of an issue.
When we visit again in October we will hang out and chat with Fenney-ites and DeSoto-ites, too. Maybe we can experience a blast and just get a feel (lol!) for ourselves.

Some residents hear/ feel them some do not. As far as Fenney being in the middle of nowhere, that is one opinion. We visited July of 17 the restaurant was open as was the sales center. Look at the area now, if these blasts where an issue they wouldn’t have built all those homes and amenities.
Buy where and what you want. But make up your own mind.

Thx, ColdNoMore -
That’s our gut feeling too. Got the same sense from the fellow handling our Lifestyle Visit.
Did anyone’s sales agent speak otherwise?

We asked our rep and several others, no one denied the quarry.
Go on YouTube and look at Don Wiley’s drone flight videos. The growth is amazing.
Too many folks have a fear of Fenney, just like folks said they wouldn’t buy/live south of 466, 466a, 44, etc.....

We've met and know several folks who live in Fenney and they all say they love it there. Haven't heard them mention blasts from the Quarry. I wouldn't worry about it "IF" you don't live there.

Well I'm rested.
Manabouttown. I think it fair to say that you haven't decided to live here.
The OP is from Arizona. I just read her info.
OP. Please accept my apology. It is very wise to do due diligence before making such a big change and spending that much money. I am glad to hear that you will go there and see for yourself when you return. You could hang out by the pool if you wanted to. Or bring a book and enjoy the rec center and ask people who live there.
OP, I think you should know that we can hear explosions sometimes from the testing grounds in Ocala Forest. We live in Central Florida which is the lightning capital of the U.S. We do have sinkholes and we have people who are older. Lots. We have clubs for younger people who do not allow older people. We have delightful older people who make us all look forward to our own future. And we have some hard headed, mean spirited, nasty older people too. We have people who make up lies and post here occasionally too.
Most of us and assuredly ME, love just about everything about this place and how it's run. It is now our home and we are proud to say we live here. Some of us damn near diefy the Morses. I admit to doing so. It even wears on my husband sometimes.
I hope you find your answers and find a home that makes you happy, OP.
I am sorry I was suspicious.

All I can say is we have been here in Fenney for 15 months and love it as do all of the people we have met here. The blasts occur about every 6 weeks or so and feel like a truck driving past the house that hit a pot hole, to hear/feel that several times a year is no big deal. It is amazing to watch how fast this area is being built and sold. Fenney has all but been completed and DeSotot appears to be half way there, McClure is well underway with new homes going up daily and many lots have been sold up there, tunnel work for golf car access is well underway. We really like it down here as those up north really like where they live, neither area is for everyone and it's nice to have the choice as to where you would like to live.

For those in Fenney that actually experienced the blasts, is it any louder than the big thunderstorms?
We live near Sumter, and the thunder can be loud and occasionally shake the house. I don’t see that as a minus.

Hi Laurie, As usual many folks have opinions they are willing to share without having experience in the matter. I live in Fenney, Sept 2017, and there have been rumbles from the blasting but no noise. It was a bit disconcerting at first but there has been no damage that I am aware of.
The quarry has a permit for blasting for a number not to be exceeded. Sorry I don't know the number. There have not been a high number of blasts.
Hope this helps.

First, let me point out that I'm the person who started a thread here several months ago asking if people in Fenney felt like they were getting the "full villager experience" due to being further away and not yet connected to the rest of TV. That thread quickly got construed into me "bashing" Fenneyites for not being "real villagers". Okay, so fast forward to now - I, myself, am a Fenneyite - we moved down here in April into a 3 month rental and on our 4th day here we bought a Veranda home in Fenney. For the record, we love it here. We are amazed at the growth and change we see on a daily basis and are looking forward to the day we can jump on our golf cart and go to the grocery store or take a ride up to Brownwood and beyond. We bought here even after hearing the rumors about the ground shaking from quarry blasting and hearing PA announcements from the prison. We moved in on May 21st, so this week marks our 3rd month of full time living in Fenney. I have NEVER heard anything that sounds like a PA announcement, period! As for the quarry, I have felt one "blast" in 3 months. So, on with the facts:
- They do NOT cause any damage first of all, at least not that I have experienced or heard of.
- I did NOT hear the blast, I only felt it
- It lasted about 1.5 seconds and was enough to get my attention but quickly realized what it was and went about my business as usual. I would compare it to a thunderstorm when it feels like you are right in the middle of it, except it doesn't last as long, obviously
- My understanding is that, when they blast, they do it during daytime hours so it's not like you are going to get surprised in the middle of the night by one
- Though their permit allows them to blast up to 5 times per month (if I remember correctly), they don't do it anywhere near that often
Now, all that said, I find it hard to believe a sales rep didn't know about the quarry. I suppose it's plausible, but I have my doubts. It has been brought up here on TOTV many times and I believe it has also been in the news though possibly not TV newspaper. Best case, that rep doesn't have very good knowledge of the area and I might seek out someone else to work with.
It won't take 10 years, as someone posted, for Fenney to be a great location within TV. Actually, it already is, but if you look at the work in progress and the expansion that is already being planned, you will find that Fenney will not be on the "outskirts" of TV at all. Road improvements are being made as we speak. Tunnels and bridges for golf cart connectivity are being built, as we speak. A forth "town square" has been announced (though not the time frame and location yet). The most unexpected benefit I have found from being here is the proximity to highway 301. That allows us to go up and down the west side of TV and avoid the roundabouts and just "dive in" depending on where we are going. If we want to go to the Brownwood area, we just dive in on 44. If we are going further north, we can turn in on 466A or up to 466. If we are leaving the bubble, we are very close to the turnpike to jump on and head to Orlando, or I-75 towards Tampa and beyond.
I'm guessing none of the above gives the impression that we are disappointed that we bought in Fenney. That is because we are not. And that is coming from a couple that had no plans to buy in Fenney whatsoever. We had rented a CYV in the Brownwood area in hopes of finding a pre-owned home somewhere in that area or over in Pine Ridge, Pine Hills, Osceola Hills. That lasted less than a week until we found a home we loved right here in Fenney.

Not as loud as the thunder was several days ago. We've only heard one blast since we got here and it was gone in a couple of seconds.
No big deal.

OP, I think you will absolutely love TV. I do. It remains my first choice if and when I move to a retirement community - and I have visited several.
BTW, I was raised in ABQ and still own a business and a home there. I just flew out of the Sunport yesterday afternoon to return to Newport Beach, CA.
I believe you will appreciate how green, manicured, well maintained and efficiently operated TV is. The folks living there are mostly very friendly and welcoming. It also feels very safe!
Best of luck with finding an appealing residence in TV and your move!

Well, you nailed me. First I admit to typing Albuquerque three times, no, make that four and it came up misspelled. So I just put in the state. Obviously, I didn't get that right.
Other than that, I keep myself clean and pay my bills.

Relax, GG. You are far from alone. I remember a few years ago calling home to NM from the east coast and needing to use a long distance operator. Much if not most of the time the US operator I reached would say "Just a moment sir and I'll connect you with an international operator.".
Even to this day sometimes when I tell people I grew up in NM they remark about how well I speak English. lol
