1 car, 2 carts, resident parking?

Currently we have 2 cars, no golf carts, and live in Connecticut.

If we end up in the Villages, we'll probably get rid of the pickup truck, and use 2 golf carts for our main transportation. He golfs, I do not, and I don't want to be stuck without easy transportation in and around TV. We'd have the car for when we leave TV, or need to go to the opposite end of TV (it's huge now!). But we'd most likely just use golf carts for the daily routine.

The problem is - every place that isn't the really OLD area (mostly still mobile homes), doesn't allow you to park in the driveway. I'm pretty sure all the homes can accommodate either 1 car and 1 cart, or 2 carts. But 1 car and 2 carts?

So assuming you have two golf carts and one automobile, where are you supposed to keep the third vehicle? If there is "extra parking" in each neighborhood, are you allowed to put your golf cart there, or are you required to use that for a regular car? What about overnight guests?

Enquiring minds want to know - the devil is in the details.

I meant regular overnight parking. During the times we've visited there (we stayed a week each time) we NEVER saw anyone using their driveways for overnight parking. One of the neighbors where we rented said it wasn't allowed, and their "Villas of.." area (I don't remember which one, it was west of Morse, sort of southwestish of Sumter Village town square) had a little parking area where people whose cars didn't fit in their garages were allowed to park overnight. I live in a CYV, actually the overflow parking area is not for your own use, but for guests only. We have 9 spots for 80 villas, if residents started keeping cars there, there would be no room for guests. I can tell you, in January when we had company, our guest never found an empty spot. Right now in September, there probably 7 spots. We have one resident that works for Massey and keeps his little pickup truck there, but soon as snowbird season rolls around he knows to move it.

Parking in your driveway is not a problem. My neighbor has a workshop set up in his garage, he keeps his Kia SUV in the dirveway. Others have HO train layouts, RC Airplanes, all kinds of things in the garage. However, if you have a vehicle parked on your curved driveway, getting a golf cart out of the garage will be a problem most times. Our neighbor got permission from ARC and took out the plantings by the front door and had that area paved over creating a parking pad in front of the bedroom window.

John that's great news! I do remember that people did park their cars in the driveway during the day, but they all disappeared at night and weren't there in the morning. Plus that one neighbor when we rented in that one particular villa that said what she said about the overflow lot (that's what she called it too - now I remember!).

I guess if we have a non-curved driveway this won't be an issue at all. Excellent. One "concern" crossed off the list!

Glad that is fixed. I know places where people park in the street at night or leave a couple cars in the driveway. If we have 2 carts and a curved driveway I am hoping the back in up against the edge to leave enough space to get the carts in and out.

When I bought my home they called my garage is a "2-car stretched garage". I say it is a stretch to call that a 2-car garage! You can never have enough garage space. Good luck and enjoy.

I live on the historic side, someone parks their car on the street, I ask about that and was told it's not prohibited.

Perhaps you should be looking at Designer homes with two car plus golf cart garage? Most people love a two car plus golf cart garage to store things. It becomes your basement and more.

Please remember that many wonderful people have chosen the historic area for their homes and they post on here. One of the most lovely and assuredly the best maintained homes I have ever entered is in the historic area.

People buy 3 houses here for a reason. The first house is usually smaller. The wife doesn't like small and the husband hates the small garage. So, they buy a bigger house with particularly a bigger garage.

So, you can either buy the right house with a big garage as your first house, or buy it three years later.

Watch out some CYV Villa don't have overflow parking and not suppose to park in the street cause they are too narrow. Small 1.5 Garages verily hold car and cart especially it its Big Car 4 door truck, or SUV. You can park in your own driveway no matter where you buy in the villages Guest or not.

Villa's are a completely different story, and of course diamond lane streets. I'm talking about SFH's that aren't on diamond lane streets.

Or you can be like us and say this house is more than we need, and move down! We'll have a CYV and two cars. I think I'll give up my car and get a cart (oh yikes, I hate them, but oh well). Or I'll learn how to back my smalller car out of the garage around the bigger car in the driveway. That's probably not going to be very good for the bigger car.:ohdear:

The good news is that the resale here is fantastic. If You are not happy with what you originally buy for some reason, it will sell, and you can move to what works better for you.

Imo majority streets in residential area of villages are too narrow for street parking on both sides of the street. Some people have several cars due to number living in the house. IMO this community no different than any surrounding community. Anything restricted gets bypassed most of the time.

Is something supposed to "be done" about it? Or is it permitted? If it's permitted, then no one should have the attitude that something should "be done" about it. If it's not permitted, then perhaps a kind neighbor might let this NEW neighbor know, before this NEW neighbor finds out by being fined or ticketed or scolded or whatever happens to people who do things that something "should be done" about.

Had an overnight visitor who parked on the street and there was a note on her car in the morning from Public Safety or Community Watch (I don't remember which) that cars must be parked in driveways. I live in Pine Hills (newer are south of 466A).

There are many homes with 2-car garages and a golf cart garage, or 3-car garages. I don't live in a courtyard villa neighborhood and there is one couple who leaves their car on the street. Another has four vehicles (a collector) and they have all of them in their driveway. A couple of houses nearby have put in semi-circular driveways that provide more parking (and turning) options.

There are also vehicle self-storage businesses in the vicinity if you'll only be using the car infrequently.

We live in the middle of the villages, and my husband stores his boat and the golf cart in the garage, so we park in the driveway. I know that there are a lot of rules here, but I really don't think that they could tell you not to park into your own driveway!

There is nothing prohibiting you from parking in your driveway. The only exception is trucks greater than 3/4 ton, boats and RV's.

We have a Sand Dollar (2 bed/2 bath) with a 1-1/2 car garage. In it we stored 1 automobile, 2 golf carts, 1 Harley, 1 lawn mower plus have a work bench. You don't need to be concerned, plus you can park your car in your driveway for as long as you want.
