I guess I upset a dog owner by putting up two small metal no poop dog signs. Got up this morning and found them gone. Someone who doesn't respect private property and would steal. Let it be known if you were trespassing at night I would of consider you a threat and would of approached you armed. This thing of lack of respect of people when it comes to bringing them to other peoples property to do the dogs business is the reason I put the signs up. One day a woman walked the dog right up to my lani area to let her dog do a drop. Woman asked what the problem was. Really. Take the dog to a doggie park or do it's business on your own lawn. I get on my hands and knees to weed and don't appreciate dog remnants left on grass leaves. I love animals but not when owners disrespect my property. Next time crook beware.

That could have been some other home owner who wanted these signs for his or her house.

I understand your aggravation with dogs pooping in your yard but deed restrictions do not allow signs in anybody's yard. I don't think the signs would do anything to stop people who do not care about other people's property. I don't think you should consider any retaliation either. Life is short enough. Breathe deep...….relax, carpe diem and have some candy too.

It's another beautiful day in The Villages.

But they have no problem with animal feces in your yard? A germ called Campylobacter jejuni causes diarrhea, vomiting, and fever—and it can be spread via cat and dog poop. It is so bad that dog waste is considered an environmental pollutant. In 1991, it was labeled a non-point source pollutant by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), placing it in the same category as herbicides and insecticides; oil, grease and toxic chemicals; and acid drainage from abandoned mines. I guess people would have no problem if while out for a walk I dropped a "load" of used motor oil on their lawn.

There is a procedure in place to get any signs removed. It is theft to steal them, and trespassing to boot.

Campylobacter jujuni is one of the most common germs to affect humans. I am not promoting people allowing their pets to poop in anyone's yard.

I know and would never imply that. My comment was directed at the irony of a sign being thought of as a problem in somebody yard but animal feces isn't. This is someday going to come to a head and it won't make people happy. Either it's going to be doggy diapers if you walk your dog or an end to dog walking outside of your property. You are free to make your own choices for your life and property – as long as it doesn’t infringe on anyone else’s right to their life or property.

They do make a dog repellant for lawns along sidewalks and roadways, don't know how well it works but might be worth a try as you'll never stop the offenders. My neighbors dog used to poop on our lawn and he wouldn't pick it up so I did and put it on his sidewalk going into his lanai, did it several times before he figured it out, that stopped the problem. I personally don't mind a dog pooping on our lawn as long as it gets picked up. Our home has St. Augustine and it doesn't seem to get hurt from dogs doing their business on it. Except for my neighbor I have never had to pick any dogs poop up from our yard and I mow every 4 days so if it was there I would see it. Dogs walking without leashes bothers me more than the poopers.

Well now it includes germs and being armed. Our cats are sitting here smugly reading over my shoulder. We like dogs very much but our two kitties will not allow them here. In fact, I am very suspicious of anyone who doesn't like dogs generally. The more I know about people, the better I like dogs. Cats run our home. We spend hours and hours removing their hair from all surfaces and watch them read the price label of their kitty food and turn up their noses in disdane. We KNOW why they were considered gods in Egypt. Sometimes they act like they love us, if they have time. We are their willing slaves. People are much better with a little furry companionship, attitude or no. IMHO.

I’ve seen signs removed from peoples lawns by the villages watch people, pick your battles, Gracigirl gave you some good advice. I’m a 2 dog owner and sometimes my dogs will go on a neighbors lawn and I always pick up their poop. The last thing you want to do is walk out your door with a loaded weapon that can make things go really bad really quickly.

I seriously doubt whether Community Watch could come on my property and remove something, not their job. No authority.

Sounds like a law suit in the making.

[QUOTE=TOMMY D;1587745]I guess I upset a dog owner by putting up two small metal no poop dog signs.

Here is some personal data we have seen.. We have had several pets, we like pets, we do not think it is best for a pet to be sort of caged up as in the Villages, sorry just our thoughts on the matter. If they get to free run in open spaces, that is much better. Every cat or dog we have had, likes to roam and explore, they deserve that. It is not easy here.
At a different location, we had a neighbor who let the pooch out after dark, he came over to our concrete porch to do it, big time. We had a neighbor who let his dog dig holes in our yard. We had a neighbor who let his dog bark, early am and late, very late pm. We currently see persons in cars and carts, dog in lap, no restraints, very dangerous practice, quite common here. On a recent cruise, we saw dog poop in the elevators, we saw dog poop in and on the access ramps and the disembarking ramps, a few deposits and young children were walking in it. We were "sitting" a friend's dog while they were away on Medical. A large dog nearby was running freely, came in our yard and almost instantly killed the dog we were caring for. On a bike we have to carry and have used pepper spray for dogs unleashed who will run out and try to grasp a foot on the pedals. In another state, I had to pepper spray the dog and then spray the charging owner. Amazing the rudeness and lack of responsibility of so many, why is it so blatant?

Yawn! And the beat goes on. Very few people walk their dogs in order to have them poop on your yard. Dogs are animals that love and need to walk. Dog owners love to walk with their dogs. Dogs are animals and you cannot predict when they want to pee or poop. You cannot tell them to wait. It just happens. Dogs are a part of the majority of people’s lives. If a dog poops in your yard and the owner does not pick it up..well, that is another story. Most dog owners pick up after their dogs. Most people obey speed limits and stop signs. Some people just do as they please. Unfortunately it seems to be a human trait. It is also true though that the signs are not allowed in your yard but as I said, some do as they please.

Sorry Graciegirl, it is you, with post #3, who have turned this into a poop thread. It has started out as a theft and trespassing post.

So what have we learned so far:
1. It is theft and trespassing.
2. Community watch will not trespass and remove non-compliant signage.
3. Armed can mean anything attached to an arm.
4. An interesting discussion on germs.
5. People can easily train their dog when to poop, and where.
6. People want to stop trespassers.
7. An easement does not make feet of lawn public property.

I'd like to see the OP put up some signs, "NO TRESPASSING, Smile you're on poop cam."

Fact. Signs are not allowed. Someone COULD report you and then you will have to remove them or be fined.

Fact. Everyone knows it isn't nice to let your dog poop on someone's property, people should pick it up and most do.

Fact. It has happened to our yard in our last house only when we went home to snowbird. Our neighbor allowed his two to use our back yard freely.

We never said a thing. He was there, we were not. Don't start fights and leave your house all alone. I don't know where I learned that. The yard recovered.

There are people who have a great deal of respect for others and some who don't. It takes all kinds to make a world. Our cats stay inside the house and birdcage. We have no dogs, but we like them very much. Are you new to living here Mr. Skol? I am surprised you are surprised by all this.

I think its the fastest I move all day. I don't sit and watch for the perp or the actor but when I do see them combining to ruin my day I have no problem speaking to the person face to face. Everyone except one woman agreed that leaving the pooping part was bad but the urinating situation was socially acceptable because all dogs do that everywhere. I was ready for that answer and gave her a PLASTIC straw from my back pocket.

My homemade signs were stolen from my front lawn, they were tiny and simply said one word on each sign....THINK!

To my knowledge My dog never did his thing on anyone's lawn but ours. He is totally drained before we used to walk him. No problems, very considerate and neighborly and alive.
