Looking for input on a new mattress. Cannot decide whether to purchase one with inner springs or go to a foam model. We have looked at many, many reviewsLooking for input and any brand recommendations. We are side sleepers. We are not interested in Sleep Number at all. Any input with your recent experiences is appreciated.

We had a foam mattress and hated it. Couldn’t wait to get rid of it. That was when they first came out, maybe they are better now.

I prefer foam. I had a Tempurpedic before moving here. It was great, but today, the foam mattresses that come in a box actually get better reviews than Tempurpedic and they cost less than a third of the price for a Tempurpedic. The Casper mattress was rated very high by Consumer Reports. But, buying a mattress is difficult because it is really a personal preference.

No matter what you need to go to a mattress store and lie down on the contenders. Sometimes that's the only decision maker.

I wonder if the store would let you sleep there overnight. I don't get much "feel" for a mattress just by plopping down on one for 30 seconds.

I would recommend neither of the choices listed above. My wife and I absolutely love our 100% natural latex mattress. We have the exact same mattress at both or northern and Villages homes. Whenever we have to sleep on a different mattress, regardless of the type, we yearn for our latex mattress.

Interesting and timely that you would post this. Just two days ago I read an article from Consumer Reports, and here is a link to it.

We bought a mattress 3 years ago, and I wish I had read this before purchasing. Ours is “fine” but I think next time I’ll do more research than laying on one for five minutes. Apparently foam has come a long way, as have other types. This is such a pricey expenditure that one wants to be really satisfied with it.

:) PM'ed with a poster here on TOTV who recommended a mattress.
BRENTWOOD HOME was the site he told me about. He got a nice a "refer a friend gift" and we got a mattress we LOVE. :coolsmiley: Worked out GREAT. Had nothing to lose...... they would arrange to take it back if we didn't like it.:bigbow:

Years ago we purchased a mattress from Mattress Firm, they delivered it and let us sleep on it for a while to see if we liked it, we didn't and picked out another one from them. after a week we didn't like it, we picked out another one it was delivered and after 8 years we still love it. ( Beautyrest pillow top) Our only cost was a nominal delivery charge. I'm not sure if this is still their policy....In the past we did have a Tempurpedic that I liked but my wife didn't so the pillow top seems to be a compromise..

We just went through the process of buying a new bed and mattress. We visited all the stores and I did hours of research online. Ultimately we decided against foam. We have had two mattresses from the Original Mattress Factory - the luxury orthopedic model. I was happy that we could still get that mattress in CA king with an adjustable bed. Love it. Their store is in Spanish Springs. They have mock-ups of the coils in their mattress vs. others which I found informative.

That is still their policy as long as you purchase a mattress protector. Just bought a Beautyrest hybrid at Mattress Firm and really like it.

We love our adjustable air mattress on a adjustable frame. It's a king so each side can be adjusted as to firmness and position.

Everyone is different on their likes and needs. We got a "good" mattress from Mattress Firm when we moved here and it was fine...up til a handful of years later. I have chronic pain issues and the mattress wasn't "doing it" for me anymore so we invested in a "cool/foam" topper and it's been wonderful. My only complaint with it is I should have gone with a thicker one. We got 2 inches and we should have gotten the 4 inch one. But it's fine for now. Also invested in cool/foam pillows as well...the kind one can "fluff". I miss the old days of down pillows but an allergist told me they're not good if you have allergies.

Most companies offer a trial period of three months.
We bought a mattress with inner springs from The Original Mattress Factory and it was very uncomfortable.
We tried it in the store and found it hard, but we thought we'd get used to it.
We didn't like the mattress at all, but we couldn't exhange it because we made some custom changes.
Then we bought a foam mattress, I think from Mattress One, and we love it.
I thought the foam mattress would be mushy, but it's surprisingly firm.

Temperpedic for 18 years. It's time for a new bed. It appears a Sleep Number is in my immediate future. Stay Tuned.

Sticker Shock!!!! Unbelievable!!!! We paid $1900 for that Temperpedic all those years ago.

Mattress Firm according to the CNN article seems to be reorganizing not going out of business. Also Casper is opening retail stores....competition is good for the market. But I didn't realize Amazon, Walmart are doing it also....I think I'm going to invest in some trucking company stocks...;)
