This should be directed at a pediatrician first, who hopefully knows a GOOD psychologist.

Sometimes study carrels are used, a kind of little three sided tent to keep visual distractions at bay. Sometimes earphones are used to keep sound distractions down. I believe that a lot of people had levels of this that went undiagnosed and we learned to cope. I think using medications should come as a last resort. But that is only my unprofessional opinion.

This isnt something for home grown remedies. Could be something as simple as a hyperactive pre-teen .. but also could be a variety of ADD, ADHD or Bi-Polar .. The best most pediatricians will do is recommend a specialist .. most likely a child psychologist that can professionally test and diagnose the individual. And, unfortunately, it is very difficult to find a very good one.. The default answers are Ritalin and adderall . which could worsen the situation if mis diagnosed .. How do I know ?? My wife and I took our son on this journey, and it lasted more than a decade.. I taught kids with ADD and ADHD for 30 years. The best medication is the one that works for the child. There are many choices and if the first one doesn't help, speak to the child's pediatrician about trying another. Unfortunately, there isn't a magic bullet that works for all. A child psychologist won't be able to prescribe medication but could be a great resource. Also, once the proper diagnosis is made, request that a 504 Plan be written to make accommodations for the classroom. Wishing the best for the child.
