I served from 1966 to 1969 in Army, but was not in Viet Nam. I understand it is for all vets of that era, but kind of feel it should be reserved for you guys who were there in the heat of things.

I will not be in the Villages to join this group. Is there a way that I can get an application and join? You say that there are 5,000 Nam vets.... outstanding.

But for the luck of the draw you could have been there. We all suffered the public opinion of the war when we wore our uniform. You are more then welcome.

Glenda,
I don't understand your reply. I meant I would not be in the Villages when the sign up is to be done. I was in Vietnam with the Americal Division and I was also in Iraq during 2004 - 2005. I was one of the oldest people to go with the New Hampshire National Guard when they were deployed to Iraq.

My brother was in Phu Bai (sp) in AF in '68 and Baghdad with Kansas ANG in '07 near his 60th birthday!

Pretty good Chuck...... It was a great experience for me. To be able to serve with the current generation of service members and yet bring back memories of when I was their age. Every time we went up and down MSR Tampa guarding convoys, you could see them change, watch them mature. Oops.... must be the dad coming out in me.

I agree with you. I actually joined this club since I served in the Navy during that era. Having read their newsletter from the national organization, there is some contention between combat and era vets. It got so bad the powers to be announced they would not publish any more letters addressing this issue.
The combat vets serving in country not only experienced the atrocities of war but were treated like scum by the whole world. They were "baby killers." I experienced that same public disdain. In Norfolk, Va. there were signs reading "Sailors and dogs keep off grass."
I have yet to find a place where I really fit in. I served 68-72.
