Haven't had a security system for 12+ years -- my non-system is still working. The price can't be beat.

You posted under the Do It Yourself section, so you may want to look at SimplySafe, X-10 and similar systems. There are several available, some allow you to setup phone calls to you and your designated backups instead of the police. RING has the option to send video to your phone and you can actually talk to the person at your door. Hope this helps.
I will caution you about Galaxy low voltage wiring, I had them out to repair a problem with the original low voltage wiring in our house, they made a repair, and I had to repair their repair.

Best to do it yourself. Having a system monitored is a waste of money. By the time the company calls the police and they get there the bad guys will be gone because once they set off the alarm they aren't sticking around. I bought a motion sensor with a loud alarm and put it in the bedroom. Anyone that walks in there will set it off and take off. I put it in the master bedroom because that is where they will first go to looking for money, jewelry etc.

Simplisafe all the way. I have had it in 5 houses and never thought I needed one until we were broken into. Now I arm it every time I leave.

I am not a fan of central monitoring for the reason previously cited. Our house in NJ was burglarized on Christmas Eve 40 years ago. I have since used an alarm that sets off a loud alarm telling the burglars to leave, together with inside and outside sirens and flashing outside strobes. I want them discouraged upon entering the property.

We have had Simply Safe for three years and we're very happy with it!

SimpliSafe is my choice. Easy to install and use. We have mistakenly set it off twice and the Sheriffs were at our door in less than 6 minutes both times.

You can get close though, with something that you don't have feed or take for walks.

Our sweet old Golden has an "intrusion" bark that he rarely uses, but it raises the hair on our necks when he does.

I recently installed simpli safe in my home here in TV with monitoring. Had a wired system in my home up north for 20+ years that worked well but monitoring cost was higher than SS.
Have a question if I need to "register" my home alarm system with the local police in my case that would be Wildwood or Sumter County Sheriff... I know I can call and will do that if I can't get an answer here.

Thanks,

Village Alarm! Andre is the best.

I second that. He and Dave did an excellent job on our security system and camera system.

I think the best system is to not have anything worth stealing. But, I can see where a motion detector that turns on an outside light may discourage an intruder. If someone breaks in, call 911 and eliminate the middleman, because that is all the central monitoring people will do.

I like the one that the past President of Minnesota had over his ranch entrance: "WE DON'T CALL 911":coolsmiley:

I really don't understand what a central monitoring service, with a monthly fee, can do for you that you cannot do for yourself with a cell phone.

The SimpliSafe monitoring got the Sumter County Sherrif to my door in under 5 minutes not once but twice. One of those times two Sheriff’s Deputies showed up. Both were self inflicted false alarms but none the less they showed up quickly.

Whoever breaks into your home will head to the master bedroom because that is where they will find money, jewelry , guns, etc. Install a motion sensor with a loud alarm. Once it goes off they will take off. Monitoring will only take place after they are long gone so it is a unnecessary expense.
I've had security systems for years and they can be a problem. In Boca Raton Fl I had 2 false alarms that the police responded to and then notified me after that I would have to pay for any more.
