Scam??? I received a text reply to an ad I posted. The person wanted to buy the items, sight unseen, with a cashiers check, for more than my posted price and even more $ to pay a moving company which would pick up the items. The phone number was from Keller, Texas.I said NO DEAL as it seemed hokey to me.

Definitely a scam. Been around for long time. Mover will come, you pay them. A month later bank takes money out of your account because cashiers check was counterfeit.

Doesn't it seem strange that banks can't scan the check, send it to the originating bank, and determine almost immediately that the check is counterfeit?

It's on Judge Judy almost every week. :D Usually the recipient of the cashier's check gives the check to a "friend" to deposit, LOL, and the (ex)friend sues them. I ALWAYS got that on Craigslist in many shapes and forms when I sold something..
